To ask you to avert a war and name our new kitten...

Today our new overlord kitten came to live with us.

There is outright war between the DSs over her name.

DS1 wants Twix Or Elektra
DS2 wants Karamel or KitKat

The only thing they could agree on was that she either needs to be named after a biscuit/chocolate or have a K where there should be a C (this is due to the name of our old chap who we lost)

Having exhausted my peace keeping abilities I turn to the wisdom of mumsnet (with the half-hearted approval of the DSs) to declare her name.

The secret hidden option is to get another kitten and let them name one each

Pictures of the furball attached ....

So AIBU to stealth boast about how adorable she is ask you to name her?

Seeing her in the second picture face on it looks like she has freckles so I'd call her Freckles. If she has to be named after a biscuit or chocolate bar then Krunchie would be my choice.

She is incredibly beautiful, if an early morning brat!

I love cats, mine all adopted me, so I've never had a tiny kitten. I'm
Not sure I could go through all that now! As gorgeous as she is.

I do know what you mean about not wanting to feel like you're replacing your old boy, it's hard isn't it. When
I get another dog it'll 99% be a cocker spaniel, but I couldn't get another Blue Roan just couldn't. Your two sound just different enough x

Would it be terrible to put her in a crate/large carrier at night? Something like her basket with a lid?

AlmostSummer21 · 08/05/2021 15:19

Twinkle - so is definitely a twinkle.

But if you're sticking with K, so far I like klementine Klemmie

Cleverpolly3 · 08/05/2021 15:45

God please don’t name her something like “Klementine” or “Krunchie”

By that I mean the use of K
Unless you are in fact the Kardashian matriarch Grin

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 08/05/2021 15:55

Aw so cute!

Our old cat was ginger and called Treacle (for some reason DH likes cats named after food, his family cat was called Marmalade and our current cat is Sushi).

I like Kookie (previous poster's suggestion) or Klementine.

I wanted to call ours 'Stella', mainly to hear DH shout it at the back door every evening (Obvs he didn't go for that!)

BatshitCrazyWoman · 08/05/2021 16:05

I like cats to have people names. She's beautiful 😍

Keira. Kalinka, Kally. (Is Kalinka a name??) Lottie. Blossom.

waltzingparrot · 08/05/2021 16:13

Kadbury Karamel

@BlueEyesWhiteDragon

Well I have to say 1 day in and shes a little brat.

She woke up at 3.30am with a huge case of the zoomies and just charged around the place for what felt like forever but probably was only 30 mins. However in this kerfuffle she woke up all the dogs. She then somehow got on top of the curtain rail and promptly wailed for assistance before getting down herself once I'd got up to help her.

At that point I decided I was awake anyway and as I needed to get up at 5 I wouldn't bother going back to bed and instead would play with her for a bit, got out the toys and she immediately went to her basket and went to sleep!!

Err. I did suggest the name Kerfuffle. It may be apt!
Crunchymum · 08/05/2021 19:59

She is utterly adorable.

We welcomed a new addition (little boy) in December after we had to get our gorgeous calico girl PTS last year.

We rehomed him (he was unwanted!) and I was still a bit shaky about getting a new kitten so I'm glad he was very different to our girl.

I was under the impression that ginger cats were always male (as calicos are almost always felmale). Cat genetics are very interesting.

Let us know what name you go for. Doesn't really fit the bill for you, but our old girl was called Amber.

There’s a reason why they’re doing it with a K...

And it’s a cat name so it’s not like she’s going to care how it’s spelt.

Spidey66 · 08/05/2021 20:13

I think KitKat cos it's a kittykat.

Cleverpolly3 · 08/05/2021 20:17

@Ninkanink
I know the reason why it needs to be with a K
but there are plenty of names beginning with K that aren’t destroying perfectly accepting original spellings of names that in fact begin with a C

And in any event cats are highly discerning, insouciant creatures who most certainly do care Wink

Cleverpolly3 · 08/05/2021 20:18

I actually was tidying up my kids’ books today and funnily enough came across one called Katinka’s Tail

I actually think she would really suit Katinka
@BlueEyesWhiteDragon

Haffiana · 08/05/2021 20:21

My childhood gingie cat was called Minge Blush

Ninkanink · 08/05/2021 20:23

@Cleverpolly3, you’re right, what on earth was I thinking?? 😄

I still think Krunchie would be just fine, but Kit Kat obviously makes the most sense!

Soubriquet · 08/05/2021 20:23

My grandparents had a cat called SeldomFedAndOftenHungry.
They weren't very good pet owners. They were of the generation th at believed a hungry cat would be good rodent catchers. Blush

Cooking fat.

I like it. 🤣🤣

cateycloggs · 09/05/2021 03:38

She is so beautiful, I agree with CleverPolly3 that Katinka would be an unusual name or what about Kristobel?

thegreylady · 17/05/2021 23:11

We had cooking fat and ducking fog when the kids were small. Mind you dh also talks on the kipperbone so normal for us.
