I don’t apologise for the caps lock. I’m so disappointed.

Jesus, Mary, Joseph and the wee donkey, what the hell was that ending?!

The bit where Kate was in the occupational health hot seat was weird too, when was that supposed to have happened? And what was the point?

That, together with Steve not being armed was to make us think he was about to be offed.

mistermagpie · 04/05/2021 10:21

Ah, that went over my head a bit (see? thick...) because it was after the weird and awkward 'nice one mate' pub scene wasn't it? When it seemed like everything was wrapped up.

I thought it was 1.5 hours long so was expecting some sort of action in last bit, I was actually thinking of a sniper attack on Osborne during his press conference!

picklemewalnuts · 04/05/2021 11:13

Maybe the Kate/Occy bit was to remind us that it's very stressful, responsible people go to occy health to see if they need help, rather than dodging it because they do and then making mistakes.

Or maybe the occy man is the real H...

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 04/05/2021 11:16

I don't think so... there was nothing to suggest Steve was in danger at that point. I agree with picklemewalnuts that it was more of a point about how stressful policing is and that we should ask for help when we need it.

How come Jo just got to go off on her merry way and they kept saying she wasn’t bent! She was totally bent!

I think Buckells could have worked out fine as H, but the execution could have been better. They didn't build it up enough in the episode to have an impact and it was rushed, but they were finishing the editing of the series as it was being broadcast, so I think that has contributed to it being messy.

I understand the point the writer is trying to make. Not everyone involved in organised crime are criminal masterminds, they just have the opportunity, greed and lack of morals to somehow exploit it, and because of their superiors turning a blind eye to it because they put their career first, it persists - like when Ted fessed up to his wrong doings and Carmichael just shrugged and told him to piss off with a disinterested stare.

I think if we had another "urgent exit required" and Kate jetskiing in pursuit of Buckells in a speed boat while brandishing a rifle, we would still have people whining and saying it is over the top and not true to life. 🤷

Load of old shite. Still, witness protection looks great, cottage in the Cotswolds, designer dog, hot girlfriend! Where do I sign up?

Feedex · 04/05/2021 17:31

‘ The reactions to this really show why our political culture is so crap. People are looking for simple explanations of a bad guy when that's not how things are. I thought the ending was really good. ’

Oh shut your bake! Nothing about this show is realistic! With the body count this unit had,
And the number of cops who got killed, It would have been disbanded years ago!
They couldn’t get in a fecking van without being ambushed FFS!
So no, you can’t go from that and a 5 season build up to reveal that H was that curly haired wee stodge Buckells. They may as well have pulled in a receptionist from downstairs and revealed it was them.

Gladimnotcampinginthisweather · 04/05/2021 17:56

Or the person who cleans all that glass in the interview room. They must know a thing or two.

Feedex · 04/05/2021 18:06

Honestly, Jed dropped the ball. He’s hot property now and working on loads of stuff not doubt and just didn’t give it the time it should have had. He got lazy.
Also I’m a bit pissed off with the queer baiting too. I expected better, but then he is just another privileged, Straight, White bloke I suppose.

That's what I'm wondering. Also, if Kate hadn't had a gun, Ryan would have surely killed her with Jo as a bystander. I also don't understand how she got witness protection just by revealing who she thought her father was. He didn't even turn out to be H.

Agree with others who have said that Buckells as H would've been fine, but it was the execution that was lacking. Found it all a bit of a let down, tbh which was a shame as the build up had been sooo good.

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 04/05/2021 18:36

Jo was groomed into it, much like Ryan Pilkington. But unlike Ryan she wanted to resist it, but she was too entrenched and too afraid. She tried to save Kate and had a gun stuck in the back of her head for it. Of course she could have turned herself in or let herself be killed but, like most people, she didn't want to die.

She was threatened into her actions, she only ever joined the police in the first place because Tommy pushed her into it so eye could do his dirty work, she wasn’t doing it off her own back (like Buckles & Ryan)
LawnFever · 04/05/2021 19:35

She not eye!

Feedex · 04/05/2021 19:49

‘ She tried to save Kate and had a gun stuck in the back of her head for it. ’
Oh wind your neck in!

Jo literally lured Kate to be murdered. She really could have tried a wee bit harder to ‘save’ her. Or, you know, just not convinced her to come to a deserted car park in the dark where someone else was waiting to shoot her...
