I don’t apologise for the caps lock. I’m so disappointed.

Jesus, Mary, Joseph and the wee donkey, what the hell was that ending?!

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 03/05/2021 00:02

Coulda sworn I seen it on that there wee Youtube fellas Sad

mouldygrapes · 03/05/2021 00:10

@bendmeoverbackwards

It should have been Chloe. That would have been a great twist. Did they confirm if she was Tony Gates’ daughter?
This theory has been debunked by Jed Mercurio. She is not Gates’ daughter and definitely not bent
Libelula21 · 03/05/2021 00:11

I think to understand this episode, it helps to remember the denouement of The Bodyguard, which was the most rubbish ending ever.

Gaping plot holes:

  • why on earth did Kate and Jo flee from the scene of Ryan’s killing?
  • why on earth was Steve allowed to attend the interview with Jo her his own car was implicated in the crime?
  • was it really Lomax who signed off on Jo Davidson’s transfer? If not, who?
  • why was Carmichael so keen to halt proceedings against Buckells in Ep 6?
  • who is Jo Davidson’s father? And why was she so reticent anyway? She’d never seemed afraid of Buckells previously.

I can put all those questions aside, but tonight’s episode just seemed unevenly paced and lacking in the adrenaline I needed.

TangledUp789 · 03/05/2021 00:14

It was a terrible ending. But if you exclude Ted, Steve and Kate, is there anyone who actually would have been an exciting reveal for the Fourth Man/H? Everyone else just feels like a bit part character to me. I would read people's theories beforehand about H being Carmichael or Osborne or Steph or whoever and just thought that I don't care either way. Aside from the main cast none of the other (living) characters have left much of an impression on me.

It feels like Jed Mercurio was making it up as he went along and had backed himself into a corner, plot wise.

BronwenFrideswide · 03/05/2021 00:15

Seriously disappointed, what a load of crap. Such an anti climax, went out with barely a whimper.

ineedaholidaynow · 03/05/2021 00:18

I was expecting someone to come out of the lift, and why did we have to see Steve having to give up his gun, didn't seem to be a reason for that in the plot.

WitchSharkadder · 03/05/2021 00:18

I get the ending, and I'm very happy for the whole thing to be a political statement on how high up corruption goes, how widespread it is and that it can't be 'solved'.

But, I agree that the last couple of episodes have been way off the usual standard. The pace was wrong, many lines were bordering on cheesy, like they were hamming it up for the memes or something. Plus all the exposition (Kate to Buckells "we've worked together 3 times" then all the dates listed; all the evidence in the box so neatly wrapped up etc).

There was also weird bits. Didn't Jo say she was ordered to frame Buckell's? Why would he set himself up like that? What was with the Steve painkiller and Steph storylines? So much screen time devoted to plots that amounted to nothing, so not LoD usual style.

So yes, I'm disappointed but not by the overall 'reveal' but by some generally weak TV.

ginandbearit · 03/05/2021 00:21

Next series will have Carmichael as boss and t'other two initially hating her and then eventually seeing her as a flawed but correct boss just like the old boss .

Wineat5isfine · 03/05/2021 00:23

So disappointed! Was hoping it was Carmichael...and for a huge cliffhanger!

I was reminded of the ending of Harry Potter. There was so much anticipation by that point that the only options were cheap, absurd, or low-key but vaguely satisfying. Both went for the latter option, though I'd argue LoD should have gone with the absurd as the plot twists have never been exactly subtle (or robust).

I agree with others that the pacing was the real let down rather than the 'solution'. The only real tension tonight was the mini car chase and the minute where we were wondering who was being brought in for questioning.

LoD is also famous for those long, tense interview scenes. How long was this one - 10 minutes max?

It felt very rushed and not very well done.

Demelza82 · 03/05/2021 00:25

Christ you are all so basic. There was nothing wrong with it

@WitchSharkadder

That’s a good point! Who was trying to frame Buckells?

Littlefluffyclouds13 · 03/05/2021 00:29

Steve looked like a wee boy with a nerf gun, when he got his taser out surrounded by officers with massive firearms Grin

Yes, I wondered this.

RaiseTheBeastie · 03/05/2021 01:44

Think this pretty much sums it up for me.

@Neonprint

I've been having a few days where I feel like the world is full of thick people. The reactions to this aren't helping this feeling. Did everyone just want guns go big bang bang? And a daft plot twist of an ending?

The reactions to this really show why our political culture is so crap. People are looking for simple explanations of a bad guy when that's not how things are. I thought the ending was really good.

Also no wonder so much TV is so shit if people are just looking for the type of ending you're all up in arms about not getting. Just go and watch the Da vinci code or any number of ITV dramas for that shit.

Yes.. because that's exactly what we feel like after a year with huge deaths, job losses, global pandemic and enough political sh*t shows in the UK alone to fill several tv dramas.

Not to mention LoD hasn't exactly got form for being the most high brow television drama. "Know your audience" comes to mind.

No need to insult our intelligence btw Hmm

LemonSwan · 03/05/2021 02:50

A waste of 7 hours. I have no idea why they think people have 7 hours of their lives to waste on an un-ending. We didnt even have a shootout or police chase.

Diabolical

Yes I do want that because I am intelligent enough to not waste 7 hours of my life looking for the greater meaning of life or some moral lesson in Line of Duty

ImAncient · 03/05/2021 06:49

I’ve rewatched every episode recently so I could remember every detail. What a waste of my time. I won’t be bothering with another series.

I thought it could be Buckles, but a lot didn’t make sense. His reaction to lakewell’s death for a start. LoD is not a documentary or docudrama to give me a lesson on corruption. It’s there to entertain me not piss me off. And this pissed me off more than GoT & that’s saying something.

MichaelBoltonsLeftLeg · 03/05/2021 07:00

Whilst I was disappointed with the episode, I actually thought Buckles’ reaction to Lakewell’s death did make sense. Buckles isn’t some criminal mastermind - he’s a stooge motivated by greed, passing on orders. He’s not the top man.

ThornAmongstRoses · 03/05/2021 07:01

I thought it was a total anti-climax and totally crap.

Allwokedup · 03/05/2021 07:04

@Neonprint I’ve been having a few days where I think people are really up their own arses and posts like yours really don’t help!
