I don’t apologise for the caps lock. I’m so disappointed.

Jesus, Mary, Joseph and the wee donkey, what the hell was that ending?!

The dampest of squibs.

Some people have been defending this episode because it's 'realistic' but we don't go to LoD for 'realism'. We love LoD for twists and turns, extravagant and often implausible plot lines and memorable characters. Social commentary on the realities of corruption in high places is all very well and good, but it's not what people expect from LoD.

Basically, this was a flop.

RaspberryCoulis · 02/05/2021 23:06

Right... so the people who were expecting a big reveal or at least some sort of conclusion to 6 series are "thick"? Nice.

It's a drama. Entertainment. If you want political commentary then you watch documentaries. The early series of LOD were really well crafted keeping you guessing who was bent and who was straight. But the show gets more popular and the writer gets up on his own wee soap box to start making political points.

Underwhelming.

IcedPurple · 02/05/2021 23:07

@Neonprint

I've been having a few days where I feel like the world is full of thick people. The reactions to this aren't helping this feeling. Did everyone just want guns go big bang bang? And a daft plot twist of an ending?

The reactions to this really show why our political culture is so crap. People are looking for simple explanations of a bad guy when that's not how things are. I thought the ending was really good.

Also no wonder so much TV is so shit if people are just looking for the type of ending you're all up in arms about not getting. Just go and watch the Da vinci code or any number of ITV dramas for that shit.

Oh give over with the patronising sneering!

Have you ever actually watched the show you're talking about? LoD isn't about deep social commentary. It is about 'daft plot twists' and 'guns go big bang bang'. If I want to know how things are, I'll read the newspapers or watch a documentary. This is entertainment, and that damp squib of an episode simply was not entertaining.

I know you think you're clever because you 'get' it, but really, you don't.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 02/05/2021 23:07

Definately don't forget the wee donkey.

dannydyerismydad · 02/05/2021 23:08

No way would kate breathe a sigh of relief that it was all over when someone had forged her signature on Jo's paperwork.

Buckles didn't do that from prison.

LadyCatStark · 02/05/2021 23:09

Well at least the ending of Game of Thrones has slipped into second place for worst endings ever!

movpov · 02/05/2021 23:09

I was braced for an edge of the seat, unbearably tense unveiling of 'H' - and I'm so disappointed. There was no big 'OMG' moment - maybe a little one when Buckles said he made mugs out of them but otherwise very underwhelming. Considering the build up this was a very unsatisfactory ending

LadyCatStark · 02/05/2021 23:10

Ignore the writing about Star Wars I didn’t see that... fail 🙈

Stoptherideiwannagetoff · 02/05/2021 23:11

Very disappointed! That was just a really flaccid ending to the series having been built up so much all week! Left it wide open for S7 but if the writings anything like this episode I'm out!

Neonprint · 02/05/2021 23:12

@IcedPurple oh no I'm just talking about it because I haven watched it damn my ruse has been uncoveredBlush

Have you seen Jed Muchrio railing against the corrupt government for the past several months?

But no, telly has just got to be about one thing. We're not allowed subtext or meaning.

VanillaSugar2021 · 02/05/2021 23:12

This had more holes than a Gouda.

SteveArnottsCodeine · 02/05/2021 23:14

I actually liked it. I liked the idea that Buckells thought he had it sussed when he was all “I’ll go for immunity” and then they backed him into a corner where that wasn’t happening. Proved how he had been who he was: arrogance and a desire for power that was actually beyond his level of ability due to his being thick as two short planks. That was his downfall; his thirst for power and status meant he was open for corruption.

I’m sure that idiot fall-guys being put in power as front men for a faceless evil regime is very realistic COUGHBorisCOUGH. The really clever ones pulling all the strings, making all the money and with the real power are far too intelligent and cunning to ever put their faces to their shady business.

Now, will Ted, Steve and Kate go after the dudes behind the idiot? Will they be allowed to? Either way, if that was the ending I think it was actually pretty satisfying. If it isn’t, I’m sure we will all be hooked to a seventh series.

hopeishere · 02/05/2021 23:14

I thought it was ok. The rest of the series was super. There was far too much anticipation - people were bound to be disappointed.

Osborne is corrupt but Carmichael has to decide if she has the balls to address it. Sometimes the baddie is hiding in plain sight.

ShaunaTheSheep · 02/05/2021 23:15

@Littlecaf

When they were waiting for the final man to be brought into the interview room and all the audience saw was the “prisoner” label on the back of the shirt.....I was shouting at the TV “please be Dot!” “Or Nigel!” But no.

Buckells!

This is surely not the end?!

Dot???!!!
TwinklyTits · 02/05/2021 23:16

@dannydyerismydad spot on.
ending was such an anticlimax

Neonprint · 02/05/2021 23:16

@IcedPurple so the alternative is I'm not clever and get nothing ok fair enough. My degrees in creative subjects with extensive cultural criticism have taught me nothing also fine

But then that places you into the one who thinks they are clever and better, who gets it. Also fine.

Me well an truly told I'm so embarrassed.

JillsFlapjacks · 02/05/2021 23:17

I'm not angry, I'm just very disappointed. What a letdown. I'm all for some realism, and I could maybe get on board with that, but the last two episodes have been dull beyond belief. I think maybe it was all built up too much, it could never live up to mass expectation.

RaspberryCoulis · 02/05/2021 23:17

Agree, @Neonprint. People watch LOD for entertainment and the twists and turns. Not to be preached at.

Who's Jed Muchrio? Is he that bent copper from the OCG in episode 5, series 3? I don't remember him.

I thought Steve was going to be killed because he had no firearm to defend himself with. (Got that wrong).

Yeah I was expecting that to come back up somehow too!
GroggyLegs · 02/05/2021 23:32

It was awful.

But I did laugh when Kate said 'Cheap suits and Dad cars' so there is that.
