To think this is a bit rude?

I sent a whatsapp message to head of nursery yesterday (which is the usual platform of communication, they regularly text on weekends so it's not unusual) asking whether or not they will be open on Monday with it being bank holiday.

I needed to know so I could adjust my plans accordingly.

My message was read but not responded to, meanwhile she is posting on social media both yesterday and today.

AIBU to think this is a bit rude?

Jeepers creepers, just phone them in the morning and ask.

If nobody answers, take it that they are closed.

Crowsandshivers · 02/05/2021 17:57

YABU. You should have thought of that sooner.

Mittens030869 · 02/05/2021 17:59

What’s the issue with just ringing them in the morning to find out whether they’re open? Simples.

AmbientLighting · 02/05/2021 18:03

OP, their relationship to your DC is through their work. They will speak to you about him during their working hours. He's your DC and not your work so it is a bit different but if you can't answer the phone in days your DC is not with them then let them leave a message and call back later.

AnnieLobeseder · 02/05/2021 18:06

I often take a very quick look at incoming messages while I'm on the go but don't have time to respond, and equally often forget to respond later. If they haven't got back to you and you need an answer, just ask again! There's zero point waiting for them to answer and getting cross about it.

@Umizumi2

I've checked everywhere and there's no indication of what happens on BH's on their social media or otherwise.

If this has been deemed harassment I'll remember that when I'm getting 3+ calls during work hours when my DC isn't even in on the day.

It sounds to me that you aren't entirely happy with your child's childcare provider OP? Also, is this the first BH your child had been with them for?
NotmyfirstRodeomyfriend · 02/05/2021 18:10

Also, so childcare isn't an issue Monday? Just stay at home then 🤷🏼‍♀️

quizqueen · 02/05/2021 18:34

Surely, this information would have been in the contract which you signed and the first Monday in May is always a bank holiday for May Day and would have been all your life so how could you not know about it!

HOkieCOkie · 02/05/2021 19:02

It’s the weekend, they’ll reply when their working again.

LJC1234 · 02/05/2021 19:09

Where they open the Monday after Easter as that was also a bank holiday so surely tommorrow will be the same as whatever happened then

KizzyMoo · 02/05/2021 19:55

Op YABU

Hankunamatata · 02/05/2021 19:59

Nope not rude ita the weekend

CaptainMerica · 02/05/2021 20:06

Not all nurseries shut on all bank holidays. Mine is open Easter and other bank holidays, excluding the Xmas period and tomorrow. They use tomorrow for in-service training.

I would never expect them to answer questions at the weekend though OP.

kittycorner · 03/05/2021 13:15

So @Umizumi2 is it open?

I think you got a hard time here, but I can tell you I booked a day off Friday and someone called me (work related) and I really felt resentful. Not their fault, but for some people depending on what's happening in that day, even a simple text/chat feels overwhelming. Friday was one of those days for me and by the sounds of it you've experienced that too!

I'd ring at what time they'd normally open and just ask then. Nursery workers aren't well paid, I'd do all I could to respect their weekends and time off. I realize you feel they don't do that for you, but it isn't like they can call when the dc are in nursery.

Umizumi2 · 03/05/2021 15:12

Yes they were open, I didn't take DC though as I decided to go by the assumption that they wouldn't be and left it at that.

As predicted I got a call at lunch time asking why he wasn't in Confused

Did you point out that you tried to find out by using the method of communication open to you at the time which was WhatsApp (as you mentioned your DS is only in nursery Mondays and Tuesdays) and you could see that the message was read but you got no reply??
BiscoffAddict · 03/05/2021 15:34

Do you live abroad OP because I’ve never heard of a nursery being open on a Bank Holiday? And I’ve worked in this area for over ten years..
