What do you think of people getting ready on the train in the mornings?

I moved to London a few years ago from a small town and never had seen something like that before. Full make up and hair done in the train/underground. I just wonder what people think about it? I would say most of you probably don't mind Hmm

In the same vein as peeling veg on the train home, I once lent my pen to someone so that she could write her Christmas cards while standing up on the train home Grin

Another vote here for being in awe at their skill! I can barely get my make up and hair to look good in a well lit, mirrored bathroom and there they are putting on full make up one handed using a tiny hand mirror on a jolting train!

I'm baffled that lots of people think it's "attention seeking" Confused How?

toocold54 · 02/05/2021 13:32

It's common as muck

Some very strange replies on this thread!

I used to do it on the bus.
As a single parent who worked full time and studied I barely had enough time to sleep let alone do anything else so I’d do my make up and drink a smoothie for breakfast on the way to work in the mornings.

Because you can maximise your sleep time by going to bed earlier, without sharing private/intimate activities that other people don't want to be exposed to

Private and intimate activities? What you on? It's make up, you're not watching somebody give their husband a handy. Get a grip.

Laughing at this comment. Brilliant Grin

getting up earlier is a terrible idea - plus the light is better on the train!

Onesnowynight · 02/05/2021 14:24

I manage to stab myself in the eye with mascara in my own non moving bathroom never mind a moving tube!

georgarina · 02/05/2021 14:36

Don't care at all, my commute has too many changes to be able to do my hair/makeup so I just do it when I get to work - but I have in the past

SmileyClare · 02/05/2021 14:45

She reached over me, plugged in her hair straighteners and started doing her hair

I didn't know trains had plug sockets. Admittedly, I haven't travelled by train for a while.

PattyPan · 02/05/2021 15:06

I think it’s a bit weird but I often eat my breakfast on the train so who am I to judge!

honeybeetheoneandonly · 03/05/2021 14:11

Needs must. I don't like it but I'm also one to get ready on the train...or platform, including taking shoes off, sorry. I live a 15 min power walk away from the station, so I will wear trainers (with my trousers tucked into my socks). My hair will be in a pineapple and my eyes might be teary from the wind. It's not a pretty sight. Once I get to the platform or on the train, I'll change my shoes to my work boots, open my hair, so it can settle and once my eyes stop tearing I'll apply some mascara. If I left the house all ready, my feet would be sore for hours; my eyes would be between streaky and panda and my hair would look like I've been dragged through a hedge. One way or another I would have to rectify it before getting to the office. I esp hate changing my footwear on the train (and once we go back to precovid occupation, I have no idea how to do it).
