What do you think of people getting ready on the train in the mornings?

I moved to London a few years ago from a small town and never had seen something like that before. Full make up and hair done in the train/underground. I just wonder what people think about it? I would say most of you probably don't mind Hmm

I think “just get up earlier and don’t throw your lipgloss over my bag”. Lovely red stains I didn’t get out when the train made a sharp stop and the lipgloss fell onto me and leaked.

Luckily at the moment masks make it impossible, the only reason for me to make them compulsory forever on public transport.

SomeLovers · 01/05/2021 20:38

I find it very attention seeking

How is it attention seeking? I do this all the time, I try and be reasonably discreet and make sure I’m not jabbing anyone in the side with my elbow, but beyond that I don’t really care what anyone thinks about it Grin

TheVamoosh · 01/05/2021 21:17

I don't like it. Back when I used to take the tube to work, I remembers sitting squished in next to a woman wielding a big fluffy bronzer brush that she was dusting herself with liberally all over face and neck, right next to me in my crisp white blouse. 🤨

lap90 · 01/05/2021 21:29

It's not something I would ever do myself... especially on a crowded train. I'd much rather get up a tad bit earlier, although fair play to those who wish to use their commuting time to do this.

DdraigGoch · 01/05/2021 21:45

As long as you don't make any noise, don't make any smells, and don't make any mess, it doesn't really matter what you do onboard.

eatsleepread · 01/05/2021 21:47

It's common as muck

Sinthie · 01/05/2021 21:53

Yep - I’ve done the full face on a train, nails too. Probably plucked my brows at some point 😬.

MummytoCSJH · 01/05/2021 22:03

I used to do it regularly. Don't want to get up earlier Grin

3CCC · 01/05/2021 22:03

I tend to be impressed. Especially when eyeliner and mascara are involved

Beachhuts90 · 01/05/2021 22:12

I don't. And right now my least favourite person on my commute is someone who does it, taking her mask down to her chin for the whole time. I really think it's not on to do that right now, and she knows it too because the once in a blue moon the conductor comes through she puts it back up again.

Giantrooster · 01/05/2021 22:15

I've only seen the full make up routine once (probably because I don't commute) i was in awe, she was very skilled and changed before my eyes Shock.

But it felt weird, as if I was invading her privacy and I tried my best to look away. Kind of as if I was sitting on the loo watching in HER bathroom. I'm not British, perhaps it's not as common here, don't know.

Coldilox · 01/05/2021 22:17

I used to commute from the end of a line, nearly everyday on the same carriage with the same woman who did her make up on the train. Used to irritate the hell out of me. No idea why.

But I guess it was my problem not hers, she wasn’t doing anything wrong

JudgeJ · 01/05/2021 22:18

I am reminded of a colleague who I would regularly see at the traffic lights, toast in one hand and electric razor on the other!

TheKeatingFive · 01/05/2021 22:20

It's common as muck

Easy there hyacinth 😂 It’s not the 50s.

If people can do eyeliner on the train, I’m well impressed.

oneglassandpuzzled · 01/05/2021 22:22

I was told as a child it was bad manners to do this in public. I might apply lipstick or very very quickly run a brush through my hair, but no more.

A woman once clipped her fingernails next to me. Rank,
.

Pl242 · 02/05/2021 10:57

It’s not something I would do myself, and I find it a bit annoying if someone is next to me on the tube and spilling powder on my leg and bashing me with their elbow. But I do understand why people do it to save time etc.

But the one thing that really freaked me out was when a girl sat opposite me on the tube got her eyelash curlers out. I just had visions of the tube jolting and her mangling her eye which made me feel really nauseous.

year5teacher · 02/05/2021 11:04

I usually do it in the car (my boyfriend drives) but if I get the bus I’m up at 5:30am. I don’t like doing my makeup on the bus as I can’t actually be bothered (takes way longer as it’s bumpy) so I just do it at my desk when I get in. Takes me 5 mins maximum though.

forinborin · 02/05/2021 11:08

I don't like it when other passengers apply nail polish (due to smell), but otherwise I am usually simply in awe of makeup skills of some travellers. I wish some talented photographer would take a series of before and after photos of City womenfolk commuting.

SunshiningBetty · 02/05/2021 11:14

Wouldn’t it be nice to live in a world where women felt it was ok to have that extra hour in bed and then not have to put make up on to face the world Confused

ZoeMaye · 02/05/2021 11:15

I used to do it on the bus on the way to college. I had a long bus journey, of over an hour. Usually I did my makeup and reading on the way to college, and my homework on the way home. I didn't have a smart phone back then! I cringe now thinking about how I could have poked myself in the eye, and all the hygiene implications, but I can't judge as I've done it too!

Crimeismymiddlename · 02/05/2021 11:18

I used to do it when I had a long bus ride and an early start/late finish. Now I work normal hours and v short commute I get ready at home. I don’t judge. I hate the smelly food eaters or the people who went on the lash the night before and smell rancid though.

ddl1 · 02/05/2021 11:18

I wouldn't mind at all at most times. Right now, as it would be pretty hard to do full make up with a mask on, I'd prefer if people didn't do this on public transport if it requires them to remove their mask. Would have no problem about the hair, though.

ZoeMaye · 02/05/2021 11:19

I did so many things I now cringe at when I was younger, like taking my toothbrush in one hand and razor in the other into the shower. How did I never razor my tongue or toothbrush my armpits? Honestly, accident waiting to happen. I used to pluck my stray eyebrow hairs on the bus, which makes me shudder now in so many ways. Also makes me cringe thinking about snogging people who were basically strangers. Now I don't even hug my friends and family and have to wear a mask to get on the bus. It's made me think

Noirdesir · 02/05/2021 11:20

I am struggling to find a fck to give about this. It doesn’t bother me and I don’t care.

I’m usually in my own little dream world on the train anyway so don’t really notice what others are doing unless something dramatic happens.

May I suggest that caring less about inconsequential things like this would be good for your health - it will lower cortisol levels, blood pressure and stress in general which is so much healthier for you.

Undersnatch · 02/05/2021 11:22

To me it feels like an intimate activity to do in public, not sure why! So I wouldn’t but up to others if they want to.
