WIBU to call the skip hire place?

So, long story short:

Next door asked whether my car parking space (advertised for as "allocated parking" when I moved in) could be used for a skip for a few weeks and they'd give me their parking space instead. This is an area with very little parking space. Skip was filled within a day and stood there, filled and not touched, for a good few weeks.

Almost every day I came home neighbour was parked in their space despite the promise after skip arrived and after a few times of knocking and asking to park up I felt silly and started to give up, but asked when the skip would go - I was told the Easter weekend. In the meantime, I was left to either park my car on the pavement or across a dropped kerb behind the skip.

Nothing happened for two more weeks, so I approached the couple again and got told they don't know when it was to be removed; they thought it would have gone by now. I was fine with it and asked them to keep me updated. Another week, another "it should have gone by now". Then I saw the partner out in the garden, asked again and we ended up having a coversation where I asked them to phone the company and take it away as I know some will deliberately leave the skip to save on storage space. At no point was it mentioned that the thing was still needed and he seemed to be okay with ringing them up.

More time passed and the neighbours had by now fully taken ownership of their space back while the skip was still in my space. So, having had these conversations 3 times now and always having been told they thought it would have been collected by now I decided to take matters in my own hand and phone the company. I made it clear that I was a neighbour, NOT the couple themselves.

A day later the skip was gone.

Forward another 1.5 weeks and I am having a frothing neibour standing at my door threatening me with just about everything because they now need to hire a new skip as the builders hadn't finished. They want their money back from me.

AIBU to have stood my ground? Yes, I shouldn't have phoned without another confirmation with them, but a) they were taking the absolute piss and b) they kept telling me it should have been collected, not to mention c) the company took the skip back without confirming with them as well.

Let your landlord know & keep a car in the space if you can - is there someone you know who could park there in your place?

CatherineMorland · 13/05/2021 10:11

I’m Shock at the CF!

Whammyyammy · 13/05/2021 10:12

OMFH, YANBU. I would have unloaded on said neighbour, you did a kind thing, neighbour took the piss and abused your kindness by not letting you have their space while using yours for the skip.

Tell the neighbour to jog on and you'll never do him a favour again and you're considering invoicing for your drive hire

Rupertbeartrousers · 13/05/2021 10:14

Place marking for the next instalment

No, YANBU. Tell neighbor to fuck off and never encroach on your space again.

ElderMillennial · 13/05/2021 10:36

The fact they have behaved this way now proves you were right to get it sent back.

crosspelican · 13/05/2021 10:41

I am AGOG at their audacity.

Really, though, you need to tell your landlord/agent urgently, that you have an owner-occupier neighbour who is threatening you in your home and has indicated that they intend to take over your designated parking space long term expressly without your permission. Make a song and dance about it and make THEM deal with it. They are obliged by law to give you peaceful occupancy of your home.

crosspelican · 13/05/2021 10:42

(I would also tell the skip hire company that there has been an altercation with the neighbour and that they do not have permission to use XYZ space.)

81Byerley · 13/05/2021 10:43

I think you should phone your landlord and explain the situation, and definitely phone the Skip company.

tommyhoundmum · 13/05/2021 10:47

Also, let your landlord know about the building changes at the front of the house as it will most likely affect the value of his/her property.

luccyloo · 13/05/2021 10:48

You need to phone your landlord to let them know the facts before the neighbours call and potentially come out with a load of nonsense. Also leave your car in the space, if/when the skip people turn up just say sorry that's my space.

Mrgrinch · 13/05/2021 11:04

Make sure someone is there to ensure the skip is not put in your parking space again. Call the police if they continue to harass you.

LondonStone · 13/05/2021 11:06

Wow I read this thread when it was first posted and I’ve just seen the update. I’m Shock at the cf-ery of your neighbours!

user64325 · 13/05/2021 11:07

Wow, they are bat shit crazy. Make sure you don't leave the space free for a replacement skip. Taxi to work if you have to today!

CharityDingle · 13/05/2021 11:10

How do they know that you are renting?
And how can they contact your LL?
Might be empty threats.

In relation to saying you didn't want to be inconsiderate, towards them, when it comes to people like that, you need to bury your nice nature, and be just as thick as they are, tbh.

BelleBlueBell · 13/05/2021 11:11

Please come back and confirm that you haven't let them use your space again Shock

GabsAlot · 13/05/2021 11:13

are they friends with the ll-id get in there first and say youre being threatened over not letting them use the driveway

if it was full i dont understand how they could have carried on using it skip hirers wont let it be overloaded

lalafafa · 13/05/2021 11:22

CF's

Jumpingintosummer · 13/05/2021 11:32

If a new skip arrives call the company and explain its at the wrong property!

HamAndCheeseToastie5032 · 13/05/2021 11:36

I'd be sitting in that parking space on a deckchair...

Brainwave89 · 13/05/2021 11:36

@Etherel

Funny you should ask, they actually shouted at me again today, having cornered me as I just came in from work, calling me all sorts and once again threatening to make me lose my rented home. I didn't budge, just reminded them I don't like being shouted at. Next time I may ask them to leave or I will start calling this harassment. They also told me the new skip would arrive in the parking space again tomorrow. We will see.
This is already harassment. be very clear that your space cannot be used and if they continue to verbally abuse you, you will be in touch with the police.
EmbarrassingMama · 13/05/2021 11:40

If a new skip is there tomorrow call your landlord and let him sort it out.

They are massively CF.

Laiste · 13/05/2021 11:47

What wankers they are!

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/05/2021 11:49

You should have agreed an actual time say 2w and be gone by x date

Tbh my df uses a lot of skips and they usually have a time limit like a week or two tops as so busy and want the turnaround

They are very cheeky

Def call skip hire and say it is not to be put on your drive

tentosix · 13/05/2021 11:52

speak to agent and the landlord immediately and ask them to tell the NDN under no circumstance must they use your allocated space. You pay for it FFS
