WIBU to call the skip hire place?

So, long story short:

Next door asked whether my car parking space (advertised for as "allocated parking" when I moved in) could be used for a skip for a few weeks and they'd give me their parking space instead. This is an area with very little parking space. Skip was filled within a day and stood there, filled and not touched, for a good few weeks.

Almost every day I came home neighbour was parked in their space despite the promise after skip arrived and after a few times of knocking and asking to park up I felt silly and started to give up, but asked when the skip would go - I was told the Easter weekend. In the meantime, I was left to either park my car on the pavement or across a dropped kerb behind the skip.

Nothing happened for two more weeks, so I approached the couple again and got told they don't know when it was to be removed; they thought it would have gone by now. I was fine with it and asked them to keep me updated. Another week, another "it should have gone by now". Then I saw the partner out in the garden, asked again and we ended up having a coversation where I asked them to phone the company and take it away as I know some will deliberately leave the skip to save on storage space. At no point was it mentioned that the thing was still needed and he seemed to be okay with ringing them up.

More time passed and the neighbours had by now fully taken ownership of their space back while the skip was still in my space. So, having had these conversations 3 times now and always having been told they thought it would have been collected by now I decided to take matters in my own hand and phone the company. I made it clear that I was a neighbour, NOT the couple themselves.

A day later the skip was gone.

Forward another 1.5 weeks and I am having a frothing neibour standing at my door threatening me with just about everything because they now need to hire a new skip as the builders hadn't finished. They want their money back from me.

AIBU to have stood my ground? Yes, I shouldn't have phoned without another confirmation with them, but a) they were taking the absolute piss and b) they kept telling me it should have been collected, not to mention c) the company took the skip back without confirming with them as well.

YABU not to have made life hell for them the first time you couldn’t park in their space as they’d promised. But disregarding that, YA definitely NBU to have fixed your problem if they were incapable of doing it themselves.

Slub · 01/05/2021 18:15

YWBU for being such a pussy and letting them royally take the piss.
You reap what you sow.

Etherel · 01/05/2021 18:17

Was I being too lenient or just trying to establish decent neighbourhood relationships? I don't mind doing people a favour and I took action when their part of the deal was not held up.

So they took the piss and never once said they were not finished and letting you use their driveway as a 'courtesy' CF alert. You were doing them the favour, not the other way around.

Now they're threatening to tell your landlord that you won't let them use the space and you waited weeks on end to get a skip removed which you kept asking them about, but they wouldn't tell you. Oh, not to mention they didn't tell you they were not done.

Yeah, if I was the landlord I'd probably laugh in their face.

Entitled CF's.

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 01/05/2021 18:21

“My parking discs has been occupied by the skip for 2 months. Against our agreement you did not leave your parking discs available for me. I am entitled to ask for the skip to me moved from my allocated space. You assured me that you yourself were calling the skip company to arrange removal. Was that not the truth? The skip company were aware that I was not the client. I asked for it to be removed from my land. It is not my responsibility to check whether they were taking it away or repositioning it in your own space. They could have called you, since you are the client. In any case, after xx weeks if it bring in a space that I am paying rent for I am entitled to ask for it to be removed. You did not say it was in use, you said you would get it removed. I will not be paying for a new skip, and no future skip will be in my allocated space.”

Hey are CFs. Complete piss takers.

NakedBanana · 01/05/2021 18:21

It's great to see an AIBU thread where the OP stands up for herself! You did them a favour, they took the piss. You sorted it! Well done you!!!

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 01/05/2021 18:24

Pre-empty them.

Call your landlord / agency and tell them you have been havjng issues with a neighbour who left a skip in your parking space for weeks and did not leave their own space free as a swap. Be all innocent and ask what rights you have to stop them putting a skip there.

zigaziga · 01/05/2021 18:32

Yeah well you can pay them back out of the money they owe you for sub letting your space past the agreed timeframe.

sapnupuas · 01/05/2021 18:33

I'm actually quite impressed. Well done.

Noshowlomo · 01/05/2021 18:34

Then get in with your landlord first and say they’ve acted terribly ! And are now bullying you. Cheeky fuckers

Name99 · 01/05/2021 18:54

When did it first arrive?

PattyPan · 01/05/2021 18:58

Yanbu
They are CF who didn’t uphold their end of the deal - no sympathy for them especially as they were vague on the timeline

Knittedfairies · 01/05/2021 19:00

Why did they tell you the skip would be going soon if they hadn't finished with it?

Fespital · 01/05/2021 19:27

@Knittedfairies

Why did they tell you the skip would be going soon if they hadn't finished with it?
^^ This.

And therefore there is no way they could find you unreasonable.

Porcupineintherough · 01/05/2021 19:33

You were far too nice, should have insisted on using their car parking space each and every time. But what's done is done. Tell them to jog on and there will be no more use of your parking space for anything under any circumstances.

user113424742258631134 · 01/05/2021 19:41

@Etherel

Was I being too lenient or just trying to establish decent neighbourhood relationships? I don't mind doing people a favour and I took action when their part of the deal was not held up.
A relationship predicated on you being incredibly passive and allowing people to walk all over you is not a decent relationship.
SquirtleSquad · 01/05/2021 19:56

Wankers. You probably broke your tenancy agreement though by subletting the parking space - even if you didn't receive payment.

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 01/05/2021 20:07

The fact you rent goes in your favour - you can tell them your LL has said no to any skip going there due to possible damage to the paving/tarmac, etc.

SpiderinaWingMirror · 01/05/2021 20:07

Tell them to go fuck themselves.
Hth.
We have neighbours who order a skip
Fill it and leave it in their front garden for months at a time. Literally feet from our front window. Fuckers.

lunar1 · 01/05/2021 20:13

Send them a bill for the total number of days the skip was there multiplied by the cost of parking for 24 hours in your local area.

StoneofDestiny · 01/05/2021 20:37

Well it's happened now, but tell them no way are you paying them for anything! They are being crass knobs.

Make sure the skip company know that no more skips are to be put on your drive.

Cherrysoup · 01/05/2021 20:42

That is insanely cheeky. We asked the neighbour if it was ok to use the unused half of her drive for a skip and the second it was filled, we had it taken away. You owe them nothing!

Give your ll the heads up re what wankers they’re being and repeat that you have been inconvenienced for MONTHS and they repeatedly LIED saying it should have been removed. Cheeky fuckers.

Hertsgirl10 · 01/05/2021 21:03

I know exactly what you’re feeling, about trying to be nice. It doesn’t work though... people like this are just selfish and awful.

I agreed to my all of my neighbours strange little requests and they still wasn’t happy, then it all blew up last year over the most pathetic thing. People like this are so entitled and don’t give a shit about anyone around them as long as they’re getting what they want. Even when they do they’re not happy 😂

Mine turned full on victim mode but luckily I had a camera up that recorded their voices, not that they got in any trouble.

Just stay away from these people, don’t do anymore favours. And talk to the Landlord before they do, you’ve done nothing wrong so don’t worry about being evicted.

BlueVelvetStars · 01/05/2021 21:29

Your neighbours are selfish entitled piss taking Twats.

Talk to your Landlord asap, and explain what they did.

Talk to the Skip Co immediately to prevent another skip arriving on your drive.

Stand your ground OP, don't let the Twats prosper. 🌸🌺🌼

MintyMabel · 02/05/2021 11:26

I don't mind doing people a favour and I took action when their part of the deal was not held up.

No you didn’t. They didn’t let you use their space, you parked elsewhere. That was the point at which you should have taken action, not weeks and weeks later. Don’t be such a pushover.
