it's raining should i take an umberella out with me? should i go shopping if there's no food in the house ?
these are extreme examples but you get the jest. there are a coupleon here todayand posters are giving the most obvious answers i.e use your common sense.
i'm just curious, everyone is different, could be due mh, nn, and that's understandable needing support or reassurance but that wouldn't always be the case.

@WeeDonkey, yes what is the actual point? So many variables. What you buy/how many in the family/where you shop. Weird.

In fairness, I get the pregnancy ones because you can't talk to anyone about it in real life and it's a pretty seismic moment on an individual level. Wanting to talk to people also feeling as hyped about it as you is understandable even if it's utterly mundane to the rest of us.

I guess so. Every newly pregnant woman has moments of thinking they are the very first person to ever have a baby. Grin

The 'could I be pregnant?' ones are a bit Hmm. Well if you have had sex then it's quite possible. time will tell.

@Sparklingbrook

What are ‘line eyes’ anyway? People with eyes that can see non existent lines? Confused

Having had long periods of infertility myself "line eyes" is definitely a thing - where you stare at a pregnancy test soooo long willing there to be line and convince yourself there is one.....but taking a photo of a test strip about 1cm wide and posting it on MN isn't going to help anyone see it any clearer 🤣🤷‍♀️

Even worse are the posters who upload a photo of a pregnancy test they "aren't sure" is positive when even Stevie Wonder would be able to see the positive line - they just come across as smug / imbeciles unable to read a pregnancy test instruction

I've always done a lot of walking/ running so have always encountered questions about which pair of walking boots/ trainers to buy.

Maybe it's because I have bloody awkward feet that need to try on all the ones of that size in the shop and pick the least uncomfortable, but surely just buying a pair blind because a couple of people on the internet like it is not a guarentee of a good fit.

I could say that x brand tends to fit wide/ narrow feet, but feet are so individual, arches, heel size that they still need trying unless you know what you're buying and rebuy the same model.

Sparklingbrook · 03/05/2021 08:15

Yes @ivfgottwins and taking the test apart for inspection or posting it in black and white isn't going to help.

yes I have also seen the ones where the lines could not BE any clearer and still it's 'can anyone see a line?' Grin

Thread is straying into let’s mock the infertile now isn’t it?

ivfgottwins · 03/05/2021 09:22

@blueandcream

We meet again.....I'm Not sure how you've reached that conclusion that anyone is mocking the infertile....Most of us who've had tough journeys tend to stick to the Infertility board

No it isn’t.
LolaSmiles · 03/05/2021 14:17

@hellywelly3 I used to get this woman come in and ask if an item of clothing would fit her 14 year old son.
I don’t know I’ve never seen him.
I know some WAHM who sew children's clothing. Apparently they get endless questions about whether their clothing will fit someone's child. Their response is always "look at the measurement charts like it says on the website where you're looking at the product".

ViciousJackdaw · 03/05/2021 16:53

The thing I hate about AIP threads is when the OP gives absolutely no indication of whether she wants to be pregnant. Everyone piles in with their congratulations, not knowing if the OP was actually planning to terminate.

Sparklingbrook · 03/05/2021 17:11

I think there should be a rule on the AIP threads that you must have a pregnancy test to hand before starting the thread.
No 'I can't get to the shops until a week on Wednesday'.

MirandaMarple · 13/05/2021 09:14

They might sound daft to you?

There would no Mumsnet without 'daft' questions.

I wouldn't be replying to this pointless post.

Why does it bother you so much?

plinkplinkfizzer · 13/05/2021 12:22

MN was not around in 90's when I had my babies , No family around so really relied on Midwife , health Visitor and even La Leche sometimes .
I would have found , I think the huge amount of varying advice overwhelming .
But I do find it weird when people start threads with basic questions that anyone can find online . I guess it is that reaching to others to find something in common .
I do find the childish basic humorous threads amusing , Late at night needing distraction . MN has it's functions .
