why do some people ask such daft questions on mn when common sense should be obvious ?

it's raining should i take an umberella out with me? should i go shopping if there's no food in the house ?
these are extreme examples but you get the jest. there are a coupleon here todayand posters are giving the most obvious answers i.e use your common sense.
i'm just curious, everyone is different, could be due mh, nn, and that's understandable needing support or reassurance but that wouldn't always be the case.

I like the “am I pregnant” threads. I LOVE the “can anybody tell me what this rash might be?” ones. Blush

The “what are your unpopular opinions” threads are the worst though.

Yes the unpopular opinion threads. Just why? Starts off with 'Carveries are overrated' ends up with 'I think Hitler was an ok bloke'. Then deletion.
SchrodingersImmigrant · 02/05/2021 16:14

The “what are your unpopular opinions” threads are the worst though.

It's a shame that people can't stop being cunts. There was one lighthearted one which was actually quite fun (simples like pizza toppings, weather etc) until the ones who have no reading comprehension and don't know what light-hearted means came. I think I actually posted dictionary definition of it for some.

DanglingMod · 02/05/2021 16:25

I eyeroll so hard at the "does anyone have a dog?" "Does anyone have three children?" ones. No, nobody at all does.

But even worse in the last year: "has anyone had Covid?" or "I've got a new persistent cough, could it be Covid?" No, definitely not. Nobody has had it and you definitely haven't. (I mean, at the moment, obviously, not as many people have, but these threads last Nov/Dec/Jan were insane...there were like half a million infections a week almost...)

LolaSmiles · 02/05/2021 16:50

The covid ones infuriated me.
The number of mumsnetters who wanted to know if they should get a covid test /isolate when they had one of the 3 main symptoms was unbelievably stupid.
The worst ones were people sitting on Mumsnet a year in saying "DC has a cough, AIBU to not get a test because they always get colds and it could be seasonal allergies, and people just get tickles in their throat". Just get a damn test and isolate like everyone else, or contact Downing Street and personally offer your exceptional services at identifying the causes of coughs at a distance.

DungeonKeeper · 02/05/2021 17:08

The pregnancy boards are the same 4 threads on repeat...

Is anyone else here 5 weeks pregnant?

What shall I pack in my hospital bag?

No symptoms at 6 weeks!

Am I pregnant? Line eyes please!

KatherineJaneway · 03/05/2021 05:22

They ask because they want to be told it's a cold and not to have a test so they don't have to isolate if it is positive.

ceilingsand · 03/05/2021 06:26

The conspiracy theory threads masking as vaccine anxiety, which I think some must be, if almost all the covid threads are in the subject sometimes.

PhilCornwall1 · 03/05/2021 06:47

"My leg is turning green and falling off, should I consult a doctor?"

To be fair, that's probably quite a valid question at the moment. GPs are like rocking horse shit.

grantoderek · 03/05/2021 06:47

I agree about contact, I don't mind the Umbrella folk. I don't like the innocent I don't gets because they are giady. I also hate it when people pile in on the umbrella folk, who knows why they need contact?

grantoderek · 03/05/2021 06:47

Goady

DanglingMod · 03/05/2021 06:59

Yeah, there was a week or two when every time someone answered that question with "it's probably just a cold" I wanted to reply "do you not understand probability? There ARE more cases of Covid than the common cold at the moment!"

ivfgottwins · 03/05/2021 07:01

The hardest ones to scroll past are the "my husband has expressed violent tendencies towards our baby what do I do" threads - ( actual thread in the last week). Now what mother in their right mind would rather spend hours on MN umming and ahring whether to leave the bastard than Google a woman's aid number?

So in my mind either it isn't true or it's attention seeking or both 🤷‍♀️

If people are on MN then they have access to the internet and sometimes 50% of what's posted on here daily could be resolved with efficient use of an internet search engine

Weeedonkey · 03/05/2021 07:19

It's the same as people on Facebook who ask what time Tesco closes.
Just. Google. It.

I have a colleague like this, if she Googled she’d find out quicker than people answer it’s just Confused

People usually send her the ‘let me Google it for you’ link but she doesn’t get the hint.

Omg the line eyes posts 🙄🙄🙄
ivfgottwins · 03/05/2021 07:23

@Weeedonkey

The most annoying ones on the pregnancy board are the ones titled "am I pregnant" - let me get my crystal ball 🔮

Swiftly followed by the phrase "I done a test"

StarlightLady · 03/05/2021 07:23

This one has always puzzled me.

Equally puzzling are those that post responses on the Style & Beauty section saying things like nobody should care about what they look like.

More worrying are those who post moral lectures to people asking questions, which does not address the question asked.

PhilCornwall1 · 03/05/2021 07:24

There is a whole new topic that could have started but I've not seen yet, along the lines of the pregnancy test ones.

Take a photo of your lateral flow test, post the picture with the question "Have I Got Covid?"

They're not basic common sense ones though are they.
Sparklingbrook · 03/05/2021 07:39

What are ‘line eyes’ anyway? People with eyes that can see non existent lines? Confused

Weeedonkey · 03/05/2021 07:41

It’s when posters make everything into an AIBU so they can get the most traffic that annoys me.

A question about whether to plant tulip bulbs now or not should be in the gardening section, instead the OP will change it to ‘I’m planting tulip bulbs now, AIBU?’ to shoe horn it into the AIBU section.

It’s so annoying… and obvious.

hellywelly3 · 03/05/2021 07:43

I’ve come to conclusion after years of working in retail that some people just don’t have common sense. It seems to be the more intelligent a person the less they have. I get asked most days stupid things like “will this blender fit in my kitchen cupboard? Will this kettle look right in my kitchen? can you tell me all the different foods that can be cooked in the standard saucepan?” It makes my brain hurt

Geneva12 · 03/05/2021 07:47

@hellywelly3 I used to get this woman come in and ask if an item of clothing would fit her 14 year old son.

I don’t know I’ve never seen him.

WeeDonkey · 03/05/2021 07:53

@Sparklingbrook

Does anybody really care what random internet strangers owe on their mortgage/have in their pension pot/earn/spend on Christmas and Holidays? Confused I can't see any point in it.
The one I'm seeing about twice a week at the moment is how much people spend on their food shop each week. I really don't care!
Badbadbunny · 03/05/2021 07:55

Some people genuinely think that social media isn't the internet! I remember someone saying she didn't have the internet on her phone so couldn't Google, having posted that comment on Mumsnet!
