What's your Resting Heart Rate?

likeamillpond · 01/05/2021 14:23

To fitbit and garmin users,
Can I ask what your average resting heart rate Is?
Also age and level of fitness would be helpful.

My average resting heart rate shows as 52 and I am wondering if it's worth bothering a doctor about. It's supposed to be 60 apparently.
I'm female, in my 50s and I take 75 levothyroxine for hypothyroidism.
I'm average weight and very fit and active for my age.
I posted in AIBU for traffic
(If there are any GPs reading this, would you be concerned?)

Mine's about 50 too, seems normal for me

Archiduchesse · 01/05/2021 14:25

Mine's about 50 and my GP is unconcerned.

TheRealMrsMorningstar · 01/05/2021 14:26

Resting heart rate is 72 (Garmin). I'm 42, obese (bmi 34), and fitness levels are abysmal Blush

Wishitsnows · 01/05/2021 14:26

95, no idea why it's always so high

Taswama · 01/05/2021 14:27

About 43 last time I checked ( a couple of years ago). I'm mid 40s, female, healthy weight and pretty fit (can run 10k in an under an hour for example).
Lower resting heart rate is normal is you are very fit.

RozHuntleysStump · 01/05/2021 14:27

70-80

Wishitsnows · 01/05/2021 14:27

I'm thin and workout quite a lot

TheHamsterCatcher · 01/05/2021 14:28

57/58 average according to Garmin. Roughly the same for both my parents, but mums is generally the lowest.

We ran out of things to talk about during lockdown, so have actually had several conversations about this!

Notonthestairs · 01/05/2021 14:28

My I watch says it's 115 - that's not good is it?
Usually around 83 which isn't much better.

Undersnatch · 01/05/2021 14:29

Mine has always been in the 50s and other members of my family are similar. We are not very fit! It’s just how we are built. I/various family members also have underactive thyroid in common but not sure if that’s relevant or not! I wouldn’t see GP unless you feel dizzy etc.

likeamillpond · 01/05/2021 14:29

I visited doctor Google and it said top athletes and young, very fit people oftenhave low resting heart rates but on someone oldee it can be a sign of bradycardia.

That's why I'm interested in people's ages.
Which is never heard of before.

I’m overweight and unfit and my resting rate is about 65

ElaborateSalad · 01/05/2021 14:32

On the NHS EWS, the system used in hospitals to monitor patient anything between 50 and 90 is considered normal range and wouldn't "score".

Dentistlakes · 01/05/2021 14:34

Mine is low 50’s. Reasonably fit, run most days. I wouldn’t worry unless it was extremely low (30’s) and even then that’s normal for some people.

ConnieCaterpillar70 · 01/05/2021 14:35

I'm 50, and mine is around 63-65 according to my galaxy watch. Active, but overweight.

DH has atrial fibrilation, and we were told to seek help if it goes under 50. His average rate is around 55 due to the bisoprolol he's on, it was around 70 before.

Winterwoollies · 01/05/2021 14:37

63bpm. Drops to 48bpm overnight. When I exercise hard it shoots up to 180bpm instantly then settles at 160bpm-162bpm and then drops off really quickly afterwards. I’m very fit and exercise a lot.

Bazinga007 · 01/05/2021 14:38

42

Goblin74 · 01/05/2021 14:41

32, overweight and fitness level is not great but not really awful either. Resting heart rate between 65-71.

TheMoth · 01/05/2021 14:53

Early 40s. Fairly fit. Currently at 60, but can go up to 73 if I start thinking about stressful stuff.
180ish when I'm running.

likeamillpond · 01/05/2021 14:53

Now it's jumped from 50 to 58 and I haven't even left the sofa.
Faulty fitbit?

OP posts:
LaurieFairyCake · 01/05/2021 14:53

60 (aged 51)

According to Google that's excellent for my age

TheMoth · 01/05/2021 14:54

Dh thinks I'm going to die at 180, but it drops quickly enough.

MusicMenu · 01/05/2021 14:56

Mine's 36. Age 50, run more or less daily.

MN went into meltdown about how I needed to see a doctor urgently, when I posted similarly to OP. GP looked at me like this Hmm when I went with no symptoms other than a low Garmin reading.

sonjadog · 01/05/2021 14:57
  1. I am 46, overweight, walk a lot but no other exercise.
ArabellaScott · 01/05/2021 14:59

Usually in 60s, I think. I'm mid 40s, moderately fit.
