What's your Resting Heart Rate?

likeamillpond · 01/05/2021 14:23

To fitbit and garmin users,
Can I ask what your average resting heart rate Is?
Also age and level of fitness would be helpful.

My average resting heart rate shows as 52 and I am wondering if it's worth bothering a doctor about. It's supposed to be 60 apparently.
I'm female, in my 50s and I take 75 levothyroxine for hypothyroidism.
I'm average weight and very fit and active for my age.
I posted in AIBU for traffic
(If there are any GPs reading this, would you be concerned?)

53 I'm 50 and exercise regularly.

notapizzaeater · 01/05/2021 15:10

I'm 54, very overweight fit but not athletic and mine varies between 42-50 - doctors don't seem to like it but have had tests and everything is ok. Oddly I was in a and e this week as it was 148 (plus some other random stuff) and I hated the feel of it.

Gobbeldegook · 01/05/2021 15:12

early 30s, fairly active, not unfit but not fit either. Occasional smoker. Mines 64bpm. Was 100+ when I first got it but has steadily come down as I've got fitter.
6 months ago I couldn't go upstairs without getting out of breath. Now I do 8 mile hikes at a fair pace a few times a week.
Hope that helps.

redcandlelight · 01/05/2021 15:14

50 is fine.
below 45 you should see a dr.

R1bbons · 01/05/2021 15:14

50, I'm mid 30s and very active and fit.

Ariela · 01/05/2021 15:15

I'm 60 and my heart rate resting is usually 42-43. Blood pressure 110/60. Hasn't changed since my teens luckily. |Even though I'm totally unfit now.

ButtonMoony · 01/05/2021 15:17

42bpm.

Always has been around that. No idea why because I am fit but nowhere near an athlete.

45 years old

Scattyhattie · 01/05/2021 15:19

Usually between 45-55bpm , normal BMI but very unfit. I'm on lower end normal when take blood pressure

Nyfluff · 01/05/2021 15:21

RHR 68. I'm mid 30s, slim and unfit due to poor health and long covid.

LuaDipa · 01/05/2021 15:22

My rhr was always 44bpm. I was very fit and used to run long distance much more than I do now. It only came up during a checkup, and the doctor just mentioned it in passing, asked if I did a lot of exercise and told me to be careful not to stand up too quickly so I didn’t get lightheaded. I have gained weight and lost fitness in the last couple of years and it now sits at about 52bpm and I still get the same advice, even though it is ‘high’ for me.

Lovemusic33 · 01/05/2021 15:24

Mines around 72-78, it’s always been pretty high despite me exercising every day and being quite healthy. I have to admit I eat too much sugar and I’m trying to reduce this.

Sillyduckseverywhere · 01/05/2021 15:24

Mostly around 68.
Overweight but do cardio around 3-4 times a week.
I'm 42

Lovemusic33 · 01/05/2021 15:25

I’m 39

SSwimCycle21 · 01/05/2021 15:28

A fitbit isn’t going to be as accurate as a chest strap measuring it, but if you are fit and healthy it will on average be lower. Mine is 55, I’m fit but 2st overweight. DH is very slim fast runner his is 55-60. We are both aged late 40s.

RemyMorgan · 01/05/2021 15:28

Mine says 70 today. I'm 37, tiny bit overweight, walk 15000 steps a day.

Is that high/bad? Sometimes it's closer to 60.

I've no idea what it should be!

nuggles · 01/05/2021 15:30

I'm 39 and my RHR is usually around 64 but jumps up to 70 week before my period is due.

I'm a personal trainer and have recently been researching into the connection between heart rate and the menstrual cycle

tedsletterofthelaw · 01/05/2021 15:30

Mine is 62.

I'm 35, just in the overweight category according to BMI but I do weight train.

Exercise 3 times a week, mostly lifting but do some cardio too.

sheepysheep · 01/05/2021 15:32

Early 40s, cycle 100-200 miles and walk / run 5k every day, BMI around 25. My RHR is high 40s/low 50s. I’ve had garmin watches for about 10 years (back when you had to wear straps to take your HR). My RHR has always been around this. My Max HR is 203. I don’t think it’s a problem because it is normal for me. Perhaps if yours is consistently higher then drops then it would be of concern but low RHR isn’t necessarily a problem. I had an eye operation a few years ago and the anaesthetist asked if I was a professional athlete 🤣 He didn’t seem at all concerned about it being so low.

merryhouse · 01/05/2021 15:33

I'm the same - not tried it since got new phone (no longer has the option) but it kept saying figures in the 50s and once - when I'd sat barely moving all afternoon - 48.

I was 49 at the time and decidedly Not Fit. Don't move very fast (except my normal walking pace) and take a loooooong time to get back down to resting heart rate.

When I run (slowly) I get up to over 170 sometimes according to the gym treadmill which considering my age is actually over my supposed maximum never mind the 80% or whatever it's meant to be.

I have the thing where my heart beats faster on an in-breath than on an out-breath. I can tell this because with very little amounts of concentration I can feel my heart beating, which I discovered only recently is not usual (always used to wonder what "palpitations" were: apparently it's being able to feel your own heartbeat...)

My blood pressure is always on the low side of normal.

I started to wonder about bradycardia too, but no-one explained exactly why it might be a problem and the only treatment I could find discussed was fitting a pacemaker which seemed a bit of an over-reaction.

(On the other hand, my sister has a fast heartbeat and apparently her doctor's told her she's already used up her ration! still with us...)

sheepysheep · 01/05/2021 15:34

That’s interesting nuggles as I notice if mine creeps up a bit it’s an early warning that I’m getting a cold!

Oh and I cycle 100-200 miles a week not a day!!!

TheCanyon · 01/05/2021 15:36

34, slim and fairly inactive as I'm not currently well. Fitbit says 75, it's usually around 66. Getting a lot of palpitations atm though and Blood pressure very up and down.

79andnotout · 01/05/2021 15:36

My average rhr over the last year is 42. If I check my pulse it's more like 50.

41yo with hypothyroidism but otherwise fit and healthy.

Bumply · 01/05/2021 15:36

I'm late 50s, overweight, but do run regularly and mine is low 50s.
When I weighed less and was fitter a couple years back it was mid 40s.
It depends on genetics, fitness levels, your general health and what's normal for you

TheVolturi · 01/05/2021 15:39

Mine is 55. I am almost 40, and I run 5k every other day. Before I started running (a year ago) it was 75.

fluffygreenmonsterhoody · 01/05/2021 15:40

55 here. I’m 39 with BMI of 21.

My dad’s 65 and his is even lower - about 20 years ago his GP told him he had the heart rate of an elite athlete and we’ve never heard the end of it!
