What's your Resting Heart Rate?

likeamillpond · 01/05/2021 14:23

To fitbit and garmin users,
Can I ask what your average resting heart rate Is?
Also age and level of fitness would be helpful.

My average resting heart rate shows as 52 and I am wondering if it's worth bothering a doctor about. It's supposed to be 60 apparently.
I'm female, in my 50s and I take 75 levothyroxine for hypothyroidism.
I'm average weight and very fit and active for my age.
I posted in AIBU for traffic
(If there are any GPs reading this, would you be concerned?)

I don't use a watch though just know it manually & from docs (had a few ecgs in my time)

lljkk · 01/05/2021 17:44

Goes up with age doomonic, related to other heart disease risks going up with age.

Recommend you step away from Dr. Google, OP.

TheFairyCaravan · 01/05/2021 17:46

Mine is 94 atm. I’m on Bisoprolol though because I’ve got tachycardia and it’s been going 147bpm when I’m sitting in my chair.

I’m 50, slim and inactive due to a disability.

Scarlettpixie · 01/05/2021 17:49

Mine is usually 69-72. It used to be around 80 until I went vegan.

RandomUsernameHere · 01/05/2021 17:50

Usually just below 60 according to Garmin. I'm mid thirties and a very keen runner.

likeamillpond · 01/05/2021 17:51

@MusicMenu

Mine's 36. Age 50, run more or less daily.

MN went into meltdown about how I needed to see a doctor urgently, when I posted similarly to OP. GP looked at me like this Hmm when I went with no symptoms other than a low Garmin reading.

That's a relief to know! Doctors must hate fitbit. It has turned us all into the Worried Well! I wasn't worried before I'd bought the blasted thing Smile

Generally around 65-75 and always has been. Even at age 30 and in the best shape I’ve ever been in, gym multiple times a week and healthy lifestyle. I think some peoples are just naturally a bit higher.

doomonic · 01/05/2021 17:56

@lljkk I had assumed that but so many on here seemed very low for age so I was confused 😆.

Gordonsgrin · 01/05/2021 17:58

53, resting heart rate is 42. I am a runner so quite fit but as I have high blood pressure and palpitations am currently getting checked out by my Dr.

WinterStrawbsAreLikeTurnip · 01/05/2021 17:59

Age 29, HR is 40s/50s

Bobbybobbins · 01/05/2021 18:01

Mine is 50s/60s - I also have lower than average blood pressure.

likeamillpond · 01/05/2021 18:02

@DinosaurDiana

I’m pretty sure that when I did my nurse training many years ago anything under 60 was investigated, unless you were a super fit athlete. Things do change in medicine, but it would do no harm to ask the practice nurse. If your heart rate is too low you can be at risk of clots.
I might mention it at some point.

59 aged 63.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 01/05/2021 18:04

Age 58

Resting heart rate (provided by fitbit) 56

Puts me in the "excellent for women your age" category

I walk about 20,000 steps a day

babyt2020 · 01/05/2021 18:04

Mine is 79 but I'm 30 weeks pregnant

lljkk · 01/05/2021 18:06

Fitness freaks track fitness so have fitness watches.
Fitness freaks are proud of their low RHRs so pay attention to their RHRs.
Fitness freaks often have relatively low RHRs.

So yeah of course the answers are skewed.

afaik, low heart rate would help to diagnose bradycardia in context of the symptoms of bradycardia (see figure). Without that cluster of symptoms, there's no indication of bradycardia even if RHR is unusually low for age.

What's your Resting Heart Rate?
Dentistlakes · 01/05/2021 18:08

I read somewhere that the phenomenal endurance runner, Fiona Oakes, is supposed to have a resting HR of around 30. It also depends what you HR does during exercise. If you can run at a decent pace and still maintain a fairly low HR then I think that’s supposed to indicate a high level of fitness. I’m no expert though!

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 01/05/2021 18:09

@CrazyHorse

I find alcohol really puts my heart rate up, and underrating putts it right down- I can force it down to 55 for comedy effect on my fit bit app when I show DH the graph he thinks I'm about to drop dead Grin
it does mine as well-but doesn't seem to change DH' s at all-

mine changes straightaway the day after I've had a drink.
Makes me feel judged Blush

Thefamilybusiness · 01/05/2021 18:09
  1. No clue what it's supposed to be though? I'm 48, very obese (bmi 38) not fit but walk at least six miles a day.
Amber2384 · 01/05/2021 18:13

Is your Fitbit new? For the first week after I got mine, it said I had a resting heart rate of about 52. However, after a few weeks, it’s stayed around 62. I worried the same as you but read that it can take a while for the Fitbit to register it accurately. For reference, I’m 41, slim and reasonably fit and healthy.

132orbust · 01/05/2021 18:21

Mine is 52 but went up to 60 when I became less active and put on 15lbs(!) from April - September 2020 Blush
Now I have addressed that I'm back to 52 again, the decline was gentle and fun to watch it was mid-pandemic so even if the normal reaction is you should get out more - I couldn't

55larry · 01/05/2021 18:22

Mine is between 68 and 70. I am 69 and walk for at least 30 minutes a day. My Fitbit reckons I am excellent for my age which if true I am very happy with.

That's interesting. I've had it a week.
