Who is BU, 1 or 2, lasagne building

Lighthearted but I'm intrigued as to how everyone else puts together their lasagna... Not the ingredients or cooking but the actual 'building' of it, me and my husband disagree.
So I've been making it the same way for years, husband has never complained about it and loves it but last night was surprised to find out how I constructed it, he said he would do it differently, so which way you would agree with:

  1. Meat, pasta, white sauce, repeat, cheese on top.
  2. Pasta, meat, repeat, white sauce on top only, cheese

I do veg sauce, pasta, veg sauce, pasta, cheese sauce, veg sauce, pasta, cheese sauce then cheese. So neither!

Pasta
Ricotta with and egg and herbs mixed in
Pasta
Sauce with meat

Whatever is left, and topped with cheese.

Meat, pasta,
meat, white sauce, pasta,
meat, white sauce, pasta,
white sauce, Parmesan.

Everyone in my house agrees my lasagne is the best they’ve ever had!

SpacemanDad · 30/04/2021 15:48

I' go for 1, but make mine with cheese sauce not white sauce and I shove a layer of pasta in anywhere I can
It looks like this

Melty Cheese
Cheese Sauce
Pasta
Meat Sauce
Pasta
Cheese Sauce
Pasta
Meat Sauce

Yes definitely number 1.
Dh and I had this same conversation the other day as he’d ordered the. Lasagne in his Gousto box.

The recipe called for meat, pasta, meat, past, white sauce and cheese.
Dh never made a lasagne before so didn’t know any different.

The meat had no sauce in it so to speak so was basically flavoured mince and the white sauce for the top kind of disappeared during cooking. It was dry as fuck!

Stevearnottsbeard · 30/04/2021 16:55

I'm so glad the majority of people agree with me, started to think I'd been doing wrong all these years!! 😂 😂

1 I'm fairly confident is 'correct' but id eat both happily, lasagne is yummy!

lookingsusbro · 30/04/2021 17:16

I'm not keen on white sauce so do:

Very very thin layer bechamel (to stop pasta sticking)
Pasta
Meat
Pasta
Meat
Pasta
Meat
Pasta
Bechamel
Grated cheese

Sometimes there's an extra layer or two of meat and pasta in there depending on what dish I make the lasagne in.

diddl · 30/04/2021 17:45

So Op has he never noticed the white sauce in the layers?

minniemomo · 30/04/2021 17:54

I do 5 layersGrin

RunHobbitRun · 30/04/2021 17:54

1 but my white sauce is actually a cheese sauce, everything made from scratch. Much nicer...although I concede not traditional.

FortniteBoysMum · 30/04/2021 18:41

Personally it's meat pasta meat past sauce cheese. Do moans if I put white sauce in the middle as says its too cheesy

TakeYourFinalPosition · 30/04/2021 18:43

1, because pasta on the bottom seems wrong?! And like it’d be stuck to the bottom.

TatianaBis · 30/04/2021 18:44

It’s traditional in Italy to use cheese in the sauce.

That’s why I’m appalled at British using white sauce.
And cheddar.

@NannyR

I do veg sauce, pasta, white sauce, pasta, repeat. Top it off with white sauce and cheese.
Pasta, white sauce then pasta again?! 😳
KihoBebiluPute · 30/04/2021 18:55

I haven't made lasagna for ages, but when I do I prefer at least 4 layers of pasta and I start with pasta because otherwise there would be a layer of sauce left behind in the pan when you serve. I do pasta, meat/quorn sauce, cheese sauce, repeatx4. Top with grated cheese.

CervixHaver · 30/04/2021 18:58

@sashh

I do 2.

Amazed that people put pasta in the base, I stand corrected! Bizarre I’ve never heard of it and I like to think I’m a relatively decent cook

But how do you serve it if it has no pasta 'base'? Or do you make individual ones?

Using a serving spoon HmmConfused
sashh · 30/04/2021 18:58

Who knew there were so many variations of one dish!

I think in Italy there is probably at least one recipe per family, the mice could be beef, lamb, veal and probably a mix of two.

It’s traditional in Italy to use cheese in the sauce.

Which cheese?

Rosehassometoes · 30/04/2021 18:59
