Lighthearted but I'm intrigued as to how everyone else puts together their lasagna... Not the ingredients or cooking but the actual 'building' of it, me and my husband disagree.
So I've been making it the same way for years, husband has never complained about it and loves it but last night was surprised to find out how I constructed it, he said he would do it differently, so which way you would agree with:

  1. Meat, pasta, white sauce, repeat, cheese on top.
  2. Pasta, meat, repeat, white sauce on top only, cheese

sauce, pasta, sauce, pasta, white sauce on top.

Who knew there were so many variations of one dish! 😂

But I like a lardier solution which is cheese not white sauce.

Jamie Oliver does a good lasagna recipe with leek blended into the cheese sauce.

AhmenGwendolyn · 30/04/2021 12:48

@GinnieHempstock

Neither. I do meat, pasta, meat, pasta, white sauce, cheese.
Same

@GinnieHempstock

Neither. I do meat, pasta, meat, pasta, white sauce, cheese.
I'm with Ginnie - this is how I do mine!

When I was taught to make traditional lasagne in Sorrento by an Italian Nonna she did 1 but with torn mozzarella and grated Parmesan and chopped hard boiled eggs too. The eggs were a bit of a surprise but it all tasted bloody amazing.

The meat sauce was a mixture of beef and pork- lasagne sheets were freshly made pasta.

notangelinajolie · 30/04/2021 12:51

I use Gino D'Acampo's recipe. Sauce on the bottom.
'
Sauce, Lasagne, Meat
Sauce, Lasagne, Meat
Sauce, Lasagne, Sauce

1 is correct. I follow the maxim ‘what would Mary Berry do?’.

Pasta on the bottom would be very wrong. Wouldn’t it stick to the base of the dish?

MzHz · 30/04/2021 12:56

@Stevearnottsbeard

Who knew there were so many variations of one dish! 😂
Like bolognese and cottage pie, There are a lot of wrong ways and few correct ways

My ex was Italian trained chef - that’s how he taught me - 1

whereislittleroo · 30/04/2021 12:57

You're both wrong. It's obviously pasta, meat, bechemal, repeat. Top layer is just pasta and bechemal. 😆

ifIwerenotanandroid · 30/04/2021 12:59

2 but starting with meat

delilahbucket · 30/04/2021 12:59

Meat first. Surely a layer of pasta on the bottom is pointless as it will stick.

chocolateoranges33 · 30/04/2021 12:59

I used to do 2 but a few years starting doing 1. SO MUCH BETTER. Definitely 1!

theworldsbiggestcrocodile · 30/04/2021 13:02

Neither. Bit of sauce and cheese on very bottom of dish, then pasta, meat layer, cheese sauce layer, pasta, meat layer, cheese sauce layer, pasta, cheese sauce layer on top and a sprinkling of Parmesan.

  1. Cheddar, white sauce, meat, pasta, white sauce, meat, pasta, white sauce, meat, pasta, thin layer of white sauce, cheddar, bacon!
drumandthebass · 30/04/2021 13:13

Neither. Meat, pasta, meat pasta, white sauce, cheese.

everythingcrossed · 30/04/2021 13:15

Daughter of Italian chef here - version 1 is correct, although there should be at least four layers of each ingredient up to the cheese on top.

Next!.

Carouselfish · 30/04/2021 13:15

Mozzarella burger, spinach, pasta, red sauce, white sauce, cheddar, mozzarella cheese, repeat

So...closest to your 1!

BeautyQueenIamNot · 30/04/2021 13:17

See I like pasta on the bottom of mine!

fromdownwest · 30/04/2021 13:19

Raw pasta sheet on the bottom?! Just plain wrong

1 I would say. Or a combination, but always a sauce/meat as a base. Its not a bloody pie!

PuckleP · 30/04/2021 13:21

Personally I do 1 with loads of cheese on top. DP has been known to say there is 'too much' cheese which I find ridiculous as there is never such a thing as 'too much' where cheese is concerned.
