Who is BU, 1 or 2, lasagne building

Lighthearted but I'm intrigued as to how everyone else puts together their lasagna... Not the ingredients or cooking but the actual 'building' of it, me and my husband disagree.
So I've been making it the same way for years, husband has never complained about it and loves it but last night was surprised to find out how I constructed it, he said he would do it differently, so which way you would agree with:

  1. Meat, pasta, white sauce, repeat, cheese on top.
  2. Pasta, meat, repeat, white sauce on top only, cheese

2 - but without pasta on the bottom.
Never come across it being done the first way, don't think I'd like it, white sauce should be on top only. Shock

@GinnieHempstock

Neither. I do meat, pasta, meat, pasta, white sauce, cheese.
This is my way too

Surely to goodness you need a sheet of lasagne at the bottom? Otherwise it’ll fall apart when you serve?

I make might light on white sauce as I’m not that keen, and not too runny in the ragu layers.

Griefmonster · 30/04/2021 13:27

1 but 3 layers of pasta ideally

Mysterian · 30/04/2021 13:28

The meat at the bottom is to make is possible to extricate the lasagne.

Meat, pasta, meat, pasta, meat, pasta, white sauce, cheese.

VaVaGloom · 30/04/2021 13:29
  1. 2 seems mad to me. Has your husband never cooked a lasagne? @Stevearnottsbeard
LifeInAHamsterWheel · 30/04/2021 13:40

1 of course (this is a serious subject not to be trivialised)

I wish you'd done a vote so I could see how many of us are right Wink

BionicEar · 30/04/2021 13:41

2 and a lot of people really love my lasagne.

fromdownwest · 30/04/2021 13:42

@LifeInAHamsterWheel - Sometimes these matters are trivilised, I am glad to see someone holds the same level of importance for such life decisions.

A sheet of pasta on the base of the dish is outright madness.

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 30/04/2021 13:43

Meat, pasta, white sauce x3 then cheese on top.

Iwantacookie · 30/04/2021 13:44

2 white sauce on top only and only a smear of it.
When loaded with white sauce it makes me feel a bit queasy.

diddl · 30/04/2021 13:45

Never had pasta stick.

MrsMattMurdock · 30/04/2021 13:46

3: meat, white sauce, pasta, meat, white sauce, pasta, meat, white sauce, cheese. OBVIOUSLY

Hotcuppatea · 30/04/2021 13:46

Buttered dish
Pasta
Meat sauce
Bechamel sauce
Cheese
Pasta
Meat sauce, etc

dottiedodah · 30/04/2021 13:47

No 1 here! Usually cook sauce in slow cooker .Assemble with pasta sheets and white sauce ,Sprinkle cheese on top

bluebellscorner · 30/04/2021 14:08

Don’t like bechamel/white sauce so we do a mix of creme fraice + grated Parmesan instead

Neither 1 or 2:

Pasta/meat/white sauce repeat
Final layer is pasta covered in white sauce and a layer of mozzarella and some grated Parmesan on top

AnxiousWeirdo · 30/04/2021 14:10
  1. It solves all sort of faff not having pasta on the bottom layer

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 30/04/2021 14:29

My method is quite contrary.
Pasta, meat sauce, white sauce, ricotta, repeat.

White sauce and cheese on top.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 30/04/2021 14:30

People who put pasta on the base, do you butter your dish first?

Butter has no place in lasagne, olive oil on the bottom.

Sgtmajormummy · 30/04/2021 14:35

A small amount of sauce on the bottom. I make mine slightly more liquid than usual so the dry lasagne sheets cook better.
Layer up, using a triangular piece of dry lasagne as a spatula (one thing less to wash). Alternate the direction you lay the pasta so there is no subsidence.
I make a big bowl of bechamel in the microwave, adding milk as necessary and a good amount of salt and nutmeg.
The top layer should be sauce and bechamel SWIRLED TOGETHER Shock sprinkled with cheese. It makes a better crust for those who like it (me).
