What would you think of a father in this situation? Is it the system or does it reflect more on the man?

Man pays over £1000 per month for the lease hire of a luxury brand new car and pays a quarter of this for his two children with his ex. This is calculated by the CMS. He doesn't pay towards school uniform or any extras, just the calculated amount. How does this system work? Do they really think that teenagers cost less than £10 a day? Is it fair that a father can spend four times as much a month on his car than his children? I know that some don't give anything at all and that's worse but the system stinks.

£1,000 per month for a car! Is that normal?

sst1234 · 27/04/2021 15:40

It’s an absolute scandal that so many men breed and expect the taxpayer to pick up the Bill, at the same time many are bringing up other men’s children while living with the mother. US has this right as they will track these useless deadbeat dads down and make them pay.

DelilahDingleberry · 27/04/2021 16:14

Maintenance of £250/month for 2 children means a salary of only £18,000 so I don’t think we have all the details here.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 27/04/2021 16:43
@moralduty do you receive child benefit and child tax credit for your teenager too? (Approx £300 a month)
Why the hell is that relevant? It doesn't absolve the NRP of financial support.

moralduty · 27/04/2021 17:06

The dad has more dc that he claims he pays maintenance for as he doesn't live with them but he does live with them and his salary goes into the household pot.
I don't know about tax credits but it's irrelevant as the question is about the system and the kind of dad he is.

OP posts:
DelilahDingleberry · 27/04/2021 18:11

The fact you’ve missed out relevant details indicates you’ve already decided what kind of dad he is.

moralduty · 27/04/2021 19:41

I hope they do overhaul the system soon to make it more fair on the children involved. The American approach is harsh but the UK is too lax.

Surely the what does a teen spend a tenner a day on question was facetious?

Hottesttrikeintown · 27/04/2021 19:48

The other one that annoys me that happened to a friend is where he pays bollocks all in CMS but it’s fine (in his mind) because he spends loads on clothes and gadgets for his ds. The boy doesn’t need a designer tracksuit. He needs gas and electricity

Why should it go towards gas/electricity? Surely the RP should pay for that like the NRP has to pay their own

Only difference is food and clothes really

Does a teenager cost more than 300 a month really?

Hottesttrikeintown · 27/04/2021 19:55

But she has to rent a two bed - he lives in a flatshare so much lower outlay. He vastly underpays but gets to brag about being a great dad as he gets his son the latest football kit and switch etc. Whilst she’s working all hours to pay for a home, activities, food etc.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 27/04/2021 19:58

@Loveacoseynightin if there are children in a house then you will be using more gas and electricity, plus you need to rent or own a bigger house. I have a 2 bed house for me and DS, if I had no children I'd just live in a 1 bed flat.

toocold54 · 27/04/2021 20:15

Are you being sarcastic or do you not have kids?
Food alone would amount to at least half that.

MadeOfStarStuff · 27/04/2021 20:20

Both. Man is a dick for not supporting his children, system is shit that it allows him to not support his children

saraclara · 27/04/2021 20:23

@GilbertsLuckySocks

What does a teenager spend £10 a day on?
The resident parent of the teenager pays for food, clothes, electronics (phone, laptop etc), the extra water, gas and electricity costs, petrol to ferry them around (and possibly to deliver them to their father's for contact) school equipment/trips, pocket money, rent/mortgage on property larger than the resident parent needs alone and everything else that a teenager needs.
MixedUpFiles · 27/04/2021 20:26

Cms is the absolute minimum support. Some parents can truly only afford to provide that minimum. Decent parents who can provide their children with more, do provide their children with more resources.

arethereanyleftatall · 27/04/2021 21:30

Hahaha at the 'do teenagers really cost £300 a month' comment.
My dd today (perfectly typical day)...

Breakfast - porridge and punnet of blueberries - £3

Bus to school and back - £6

School lunch - £3

Food tech ingredients - £3

Phone - £1

Ballet after school - £10

Dinner - £5 (£3 piece of fish)

£31 already...

I haven't included 1 x third of our monthly bills (mortgage £500, council tax £250, elec/gas £125, sky etc £100, others £125) £1100 \ 3 = £400 ish so per day £10ish

I haven't included the cost of her school uniform (£500 this year, won't always be); or any of her other clothes.

I haven't included any contribution towards saving for holidays.

I haven't included anything like saving for big events, like birthdays, Christmas presents etc

I didn't include pocket money, or money for others birthday presents.

So, no £10 a day doesn't go anywhere near the cost of raising a child.

Hankunamatata · 27/04/2021 22:03

If he is paying £250 a month. They take 12% of gross pay so he only earns 25k a year roughly? How is he paying 1k a month for a car?

3JsMa · 27/04/2021 22:42

Gosh,I wish my 2DCs will get this ammount.
All my exH is paying is £7/week for 2 youngest children. Other 2DCs don't count as they are 18/20.
It's both that is the problem, fathers and system that allows it.
FYI,I know for sure that he does work/have money but his GF is probably advising him how to hide it from authorities so he's not liable for more than bare minimum.

Loveacoseynightin · 27/04/2021 22:53

This what makes me laugh, is the father really only providing the minimum for child?

NRP also requires a place to live for the children does this not count? will also spend money when in their care as well.

This is just about how much mum receives which will never ever be enough judging by the list I've seen here

Stompythedinosaur · 27/04/2021 23:09

Of course it makes him a shit dad and a shit person.
**@moralduty do you receive child benefit and child tax credit for your teenager too? (Approx £300 a month)
How can you say CB and TC/UC are approx £300 per month when they are based on income and we have no idea what OP does or doesn't earn.Confused

@moralduty he's a shit Dad but it's also a shit system. My ex has somehow managed to get a nil assessment for the last 8 years, yet has a 7 seater car and 2 motorbikes, including a Harley. Go figure. Angry

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 27/04/2021 23:26

The CMS system in this country is despicable, we need something more like the US where men are penalised int he form of having their passports revoked for non-payment.but the men who purposefully trick the system to pay the bare minimum are scum too

GilbertsLuckySocks · 28/04/2021 00:01

@Susannahmoody Not facetious, no. I have a a teenager. She doesn’t cost me £10 a day.

Child Benefit and Child Tax Credit for one child is around £300 a month, so that helps towards the ‘£10 a day’ on top of the hundreds already received from the absent parent.

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 28/04/2021 00:07

Single mothers shouldn't have to rely on the benefit system to compensate for shitty cheapskate exes
