To ask is there a better version of Brighton

Sorry a bit cheeky to put on AIBU - but - it's an important question!!

Brighton - great vibes, creativity, open mindedness good schools - but overpriced and the countryside isn't amazing and there are no gardens.

So what is the alternative! Where else is open minded and fun and has sea air and countryside but is not ruined by hen dos and property prices. And needs to have good schools.

Sadly, I have to write off the whole of Kent as I don't approve of grammar system. Unless there is somewhere in Kent with good secondary moderns.

@Proudboomer

DS is a large school but it is also massively over subscribed and its catchment area is fiveways one of the more expensive areas which is reflected in the fact that the pupils premium is below average. Trans children are not moving to the school it is now more the trendy thing for kids to identify as within the school. There is not a lot of movement of children transferring there for any reason as quite frankly there is no spaces there as it is rare for children to leave once they have got a place.
Okay. I said I know of two children, moved from another area to go to that school. One trans and one gay.
Yorkshirecrab · 29/04/2021 18:34

Moved because of bullying and because that school was recommended due to them being trans and gay. Do you not think anyone else might have done the same?

Proudboomer · 29/04/2021 18:38

Then they were lucky as I know people who even though it is the nearest school who didn’t get places but at 11 their children just identified as 11 year olds.

Erkrie · 29/04/2021 19:17

Yorkshirecrab why so coy? I'm interested in why you think It's a good job some of the people on here aren't in school with these children.

A 🤔 face is a bit of a cowardly response isn't it. If you have something to say, then do say it...

I always liked Brighton but the problem is we rent nice houses and every time we looked down there they were all crap- scruffy, damp patches, grotty gardens, and an awful lot of crammed in property and this was at the high end 4 bedders too. Maybe if we could buy then it’s different but we couldn’t , so we lived in other places, Canterbury, Bath, oxford etc. I do think ironically places like whitstable, Deal , broadstairs and Hythe are maybe what would suit- so I wouldn’t dismiss Kent-

Yorkshirecrab · 29/04/2021 21:09

Erkrie you know exactly why. I don't want to fight with anyone.
I wish people could just have a bit more empathy for these kids.

GreyhoundG1rl · 29/04/2021 21:10

Yet you decided to make a cryptic comment in the first place.

Yorkshirecrab · 29/04/2021 21:11

Mostly because I'm too tired! Have a nice evening everyone Smile

Nope. I have no idea why.

Guardian readers!

No there isn’t is the short answer. Whether you love it or, as some people here seem to , loathe it.
But as I ran along the sea front at 6am this morning in the sunshine, with the waves crashing on the pebbles and the wind whipping, I felt like the luckiest human on earth to live in Brighton.
