To not want ds kitted out in dinosaurs and sharks?

Ds is four months and mostly wears babygros. I had mostly white and grey and cream to start with but obviously people bought us things and there was a lot of blue and I like the darker navy blues - it seems to suit him.

However looking for a sunhat for him and I’ve had to pay £11 for a plain navy one. I forgot his sleeping bag on holiday recently and had to get one covered in sharks.

Why are boys clothes so miserable? Surely baby boys can wear bright colours and slightly friendlier animals than T rexes and sharks?!

Not sure about for little ones, but Zara do great plain clothes at a reasonable cost for older boys. I don't like name brands or pictures on clothes and Zara's selection always comes up trumps

I actually resorted to Next for my boy. Multi pack prices are on par with the supermarkets and nice bright colours. Transport seems to be the current in thing, but that suits us as the boy is obsessed with anything with wheels.

Sickoffamilydrama · 26/04/2021 13:11

I can remember being the same in that I didn't want dark dull colours. Now I active look for the sludge colours and patterns are even better as it hides the dirt of a messy 4 year old 🤣

Although Dinosaurs & Sharks have always been in even I might be tempted to wear dinosaur outfit if I found one I liked 🦕 🦖

Thewiseoneincognito · 26/04/2021 13:13

Sharks Dinosaurs Unicorns, mostly with sequins and bits of fluff stuck on them. It’s usually the supermarkets and high street who push this garbage. I have a niece and can’t stand buying her clothes from Primark, H&M or Next, it’s just frilly cheap tat.

Even worse is the high end designer stuff, kids walking around looking like footballers and drug dealers in heavily logo’d items, hideous.

Aliceandthemarchhare · 26/04/2021 13:15

uhtred I do get your point but I’m not dressing ds in pink.

I do agree there’s a lot of silly stereotyping but I’m not going to be the one to decide to break it.

I’m just personally not a massive fan of dinos or trucks or sharks.

God of course someone has suggested dressing him in pink Grin I never dressed either my DD or DS in pink because it's a horrible colour

ChiefBabySniffer · 26/04/2021 13:18

My grandson is 12 weeks and we have found loads of non shark dinosaur babygrows and clothes for him. Some gorgeous zoo animals from Asda in white background with bright animals and lots of muted crayon animals on cream from Morrison's. Not expensive and not hard to find.

Aliceandthemarchhare · 26/04/2021 13:21

I like pink.

For me, though. Smile

I see loads of gorgeous girls clothes but it’s probably similar to how when you go shopping with money you can never find anything to buy Grin

But not to my personal taste chief

I dunno about sharks but I love dinosaurs! I also know a little girl who likes wearing dinosaur printed clothes and has a dinosaur back pack.

Of course you can buy plain or different patterned clothes for your baby if you don't like dinos and sharks.

To you it is. But there are lots of people who like pink but won't dress a boy in it because....well I don't know why really. My DS was ofetn in his sisters old baby clothes of all colours. Never saw the problem.
Aliceandthemarchhare · 26/04/2021 13:24

There isn’t a problem swim

As with most things we buy our children what we like.

Some people like dressing their boys in pink and are fine with shopping in the girls section

Some like dinosaurs, trucks etc

Some just would like a choice

All are fine

Your issue seems to be complaining about the gendering of baby clothes while you personally support the gendering of baby clothes. I don't really get it.
Just look a bit harder for what you want.

TheKeatingFive · 26/04/2021 13:28

While the choice for boys isn't as good as girls, at this age there's plenty of variety and nice colours. It gets harder after about 6.

M&S do a good unisex range, Jojo has lovely stuff, John Lewis, H&M, even Tesco all have good variety. And then plenty online.

Mind you, my two (6 and 2) would wear dinosaurs constantly if that was an option.

scaredsadandstuck · 26/04/2021 13:29

Sorry haven't RTFT but I was in M&S the other day looking at baby stuff and I thought they had some really good 'neutral' ranges. www.marksandspencer.com/l/kids/baby

TheKeatingFive · 26/04/2021 13:35

I don't think the idea that boys clothes have predominately predators on them is necessarily accurate.

If I think about what my sons have had over the years, there's been a good mixture of bunnies, whales, frogs, giraffes, sheep, elephants, ducks, octopuses, dogs, koalas, along with some lions and bears.

What you're looking for is out there.

Rubyupbeat · 26/04/2021 13:39

Why not look on etsy?, there are lovely clothes on there, you can usually choose your own fabric design too.

Lilaclittletree · 26/04/2021 13:40

I thought the same when my boy was little, I even bought a pattern, sewing machine and nice fabric.
Sadly they are still sitting there, and he’s in Primary School
But I do agree..
😂

Wanderlust20 · 26/04/2021 13:44

I know what you mean, my mum keeps joking "please no more dinos" for our new arrival as that's all my nephew gets dressed in! Fair enough if the kids like it but it was kind of lumped on his from a young age as his parents are right into that kinda stuff!

KM38 · 26/04/2021 13:45

@Aliceandthemarchhare Completely agree with you 😳 I don’t mind the odd little dinosaur here and there - DS had a beautiful cardigan from next. All I could find at one point were whales 🙄 sometimes I just want nice plain basics 😓

As others have said...H&M is my go-to for 6m old DS. Got this little hat and a plain one for him. And I always stock up on their wee plain leggings and T-shirt’s/long sleeved tops.

I’m already picking up bits that I see that I like in bigger sizes because I’m so picky 🤣😅 everything for toddlers seems to have dinosaur spikes sticking out of it or be covered in tractors or superheros 🙈

Try frugi, kite, picalilly, maxamorra, Toby tiger. I've bought lots of nice bright clothing for my ds from those brands!

GlamourBear · 26/04/2021 13:48

Oops *piccalilly

IHateCoronavirus · 26/04/2021 13:49

I second frugi if you like brights. It is a tad pricey but has a really good resale value. If you don’t mind second hand eBay always has frugi bits going.

SaucyHorse · 26/04/2021 13:53

My advice is just to enjoy him being a baby and having no opinions. Once he gets to be 3/4+ you'll be buying him things that you think are lovely which he will then flatly refuse to wear, demanding to spend his entire life in an old Batman jumper handed down from his cousin or something.
