To not want ds kitted out in dinosaurs and sharks?

Aliceandthemarchhare · 26/04/2021 09:43

Ds is four months and mostly wears babygros. I had mostly white and grey and cream to start with but obviously people bought us things and there was a lot of blue and I like the darker navy blues - it seems to suit him.

However looking for a sunhat for him and I’ve had to pay £11 for a plain navy one. I forgot his sleeping bag on holiday recently and had to get one covered in sharks.

Why are boys clothes so miserable? Surely baby boys can wear bright colours and slightly friendlier animals than T rexes and sharks?!

I was the same. Now our four year old insists on wearing dinosaurs.

I got a lot of his clothes from Fred and Noah (bottoms) and bright tops from H&M

JeanClaudeVanDammit · 26/04/2021 09:46

I’ll swap you sharks for f*ing unicorns! I love the bright colours and different prints on clothes from e.g. Frugi but they are so much more expensive unless you can get a good second hand bundle.

Aliceandthemarchhare · 26/04/2021 09:47

Yes this is the thing jean! He does have some lovely clothes but they have cost a small fortune. I can imagine the unicorns are annoying though!

I quite like dinos and sharks myself. Quite interesting when they’re a bit older as they are things that will be worth learning about.

My Ds is a bit older - 7 yo - but I’ve always found a range of different things - animals, sports, palm trees and the like. Or plain stuff - or whatever their interests are when they are older.

I wasn’t keen on the transport related designs when he was a baby but that’s probably because I’m not interested in that.

But I said Yabu because I’ve bought baby things for someone as a present and there was loads of choice. Plain colours, stripes, the light coloured stuff you describe, Peter rabbit, Winnie the Pooh etc. And this was only in a very ordinary shop.

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 26/04/2021 09:48

I traipsed round the shops yesterday depressed at all the blue dinos/sharks for boys and pink frills for girls! I've found H&M to be one of the best stores for neutrals and not too expensive.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 26/04/2021 09:48

I disagree on dinosaurs but they are awesome...

But overall, YANBU. Many baby clothes are overgendered. My youngest is now eight, so I'm not knowledgeable on latest baby fashions, but Boots used to have lots of colourful designs like stripes and spots.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 26/04/2021 09:49

I shop in H and M a lot! But there was a good range in Sainsbury’s too.

WetJan · 26/04/2021 09:50

At least you get a choice of dinosaurs or sharks... unicorns or more bloody unicorns for girls 😒 DD can't recognise or pronounce bloody 'unicorn'.

JosephineBaker · 26/04/2021 09:50

Dinosaurs and sharks are at least interesting!

Fucking fairies and princesses and unicorns, on the other hand... Angry

bootlebumtrinketti · 26/04/2021 09:51

Also as PP points our - dinosaurs and sharks are real and interesting. Unicorns are fictional twee nonsense.

Aliceandthemarchhare · 26/04/2021 09:52

I absolutely agree that dinosaurs and sharks are interesting but I do feel ds is perhaps a little young for this Grin

In animal themes he has

Ducks
Koalas
Otters
Highland cow (sadly outgrown, it was very cute)
Little nut brown hare - Sainsbury’s did a lovely range based on Guess How Much I Love You
Zebras

But they all came from quite expensive places apart from the hare.

H and M does a good line in big cats. I used to get some lovely things from next too.

I miss the dinos and sharks. It's better than the next stage, which seems almost exclusively army green, sludge or multi coloured camo. It's also better than that vile shade of pale pink things for girls are made from, or the eternal, simpering unicorn, which seems to go from 0 to 7 years.

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 26/04/2021 09:53

Poundland, tesco, asda, eBay, amazon all have plain but colourful sunhats, and they are a lot cheaper than £11 as well.

Aliceandthemarchhare · 26/04/2021 09:53

Sainsbury’s are the best of the supermarkets I’ve found. I haven’t really found anything in Asda or morrisons although he did have a nice polar bear outfit from morrisons when he was a newborn.

Wait until they get into TV characters. Boys PJs... Iggle Piggle... Girls ones Upsy Daisy. Boys get George Pig. Girls get Peppa. Boys get all the Paw Patrol Pups. Girls get Skye. And the girls ones are always flimsy and frilly (obviously you can buy whichever you chose, but I don't blame the boys parents for not wanting the lower quality girls ones.)

Aliceandthemarchhare · 26/04/2021 09:54

I didn’t look in Asda. We don’t really have a Tesco particularly close. When I looked online it was sharks and more sharks. And I did need a plain one as he’ll be wearing it a lot as a baldie Smile

Your mistake is restricting yourself to “boys” clothes. There’s no such thing. Children can wear any clothes that aren’t operated by their genitals (that’s all clothes BTW) so you didn’t “have” to get one covered in sharks.

Lubiluxe · 26/04/2021 09:54

The link isn't working but it's called 'animal print keppie hat' and is only £4

Aliceandthemarchhare · 26/04/2021 09:55

No I know uhtred but it is very much sharks for boys and blue and unicorns for girls and pink.

There are a plethora of animals and colours boys and girls can wear and it’s a shame.

What kind of sun hat did you buy? I need one DS can’t pull off easily
Aliceandthemarchhare · 26/04/2021 09:58

This one grumpy, I’m not sure if it will fit what you need though - hope so.

It’s really not.

Gendered baby clothes are the bane of my life right now. We dont want to find out the gender but I find white and cream baby clothes so boring. Why cant there be new born clothes that arent gendered .

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 26/04/2021 09:59

Also have a look on etsy in future, its a little more expensive but there is generally heaps of choice and some really lovely things on there.
