To hate buying toilet paper

I find it embarrassing, especially if it’s the only thing I buy (not so bad as part of the weekly shop). I ran into a work colleague earlier coming out of the shop holding nothing but a big pack of toilet roll. I‘m always scared that the person on the till/anyone who sees me will be assuming that I’m going straight home to do a massive poo.
I know it’s silly because obviously everyone buys it but I normally make my husband buy it.
Anyone else have this worry?

I live on my own and buy loo paper in nine-packs.

It's never occurred to me that people might think I'm going home to use it all in one dump.

AlmostSummer21 · 25/04/2021 19:02

I don't like buying it either. Christ knows why, I'm 52 FFS.

TheVampiresWife · 25/04/2021 19:04

@Coulddowithanap

I can honestly say that I've never thought 'they must be rushing home for a poo' when seeing someone leave a shop with toilet roll.
Me neither, but after reading this thread I probably will Grin

I used to bulk buy mine from a wholesalers. 200odd at a time. They thought I had a hotel. 😳
pointythings · 25/04/2021 19:07

I couldn't care less about who sees what I buy, but honestly I would recommend Who Gives A Crap for social and environmental reasons.

OMG, I'm like this!!! I get so ashamed and feel awkward. I know it's irrational since everyone uses it. Think it's because at home as a teen I had an ensuite and always had to ask my parents for toilet roll and they always made a big deal about it.
I didn't have a en-suite when a child but pardon the pun our anal stepfather was very funny about loo roll & used to ration it & shout & scream about how often you went to the loo. Hence I understand the anxiety around buying it as stupidly it brings back these childhood feelings of shame & being told you are bad.

Looking back as an adult it's really sad & pathetic how we were treated because of a normal bodily function & what makes it even sadder is that my late stepfather experienced the same treatment from his own father.

Topseyt · 25/04/2021 19:10

Nope. This never occurs to me at all.

I couldn't give t shit.

ChristmasAlone · 25/04/2021 19:11

I'd probably judge you if you bought cheap shit rag other than not a thought what cross my mind

ihavethehighground · 25/04/2021 19:14

Op just get it delivered on Amazon Prime Now perhaps

YorkshireIndie · 25/04/2021 19:30

No one cares unless you are buying 3 plus packets of 24 rolls 🙄
When I worked on the checkouts I did not care what people brought

LeopardSheet · 25/04/2021 19:36

Thanks for the who gives a crap tips. Have ordered some. I only hope the neighbours don’t see it being delivered! (Joke)

I have anxiety and worry about the stupidest things, but even this is beyond me.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 25/04/2021 19:47

OMG, more than one person finds loo rooms embarrassing, that's crazy.

I can just about imagine a 13 year old girl maybe being a tad red cheeked if she ran into a boy she fancied while buying some but fully grown women? That's pathetic tbh.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 25/04/2021 19:54

Just pad the shop out with a giant bottle of harpic or bleach - then they'll be more concerned that you loo is dirty because you poo in it Grin

Have just calculated that my who gives a crap order will last sixteen months, so that will mean you don't get embarrassed too often.
Cryalot2 · 25/04/2021 19:57

I have chronic bowel conditions and buying lots of toilet paper is the least of my worries.
If someone is bothered by our shopping then they have a big problem and need a life.

FartnissEverbeans · 25/04/2021 19:59

When my son was tiny I went through a bit of a nesting phase which for some reason necessitated buying industrial quantities of toilet paper from a bulk buying website. I didn’t have to buy any for a year after that but the whole house was full of toilet paper and I think I probably looked like a bit of a psychopath

Gottalovesummer · 25/04/2021 20:00

Wait till you're in the queue buying only cat food and wine.

Now THAT'S embarrassing.

PhilCornwall1 · 25/04/2021 20:16

Nobody was embarrassed last year loading up on a tonne of it and running out the shop.

I can remember walking into coop last year and saying to the person next to me "thank fuck for that, they've got bog roll!!".

No embarrassment, just relief, in more ways than one!!

CustardySergeant · 25/04/2021 20:24

@FourEyesGood

No. I’d judge you far more if I knew you NEVER bought/used toilet paper...
Or if you always bought used toilet paper.

Why on earth did your parents make a big deal about it?
TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 25/04/2021 20:31

You'd hate my old job. It was in a pub kitchen and I frequently got despatched go the local door to buy ax much bog roll as I could carry. Like 70 rolls at once. And I had to walk along the street carrying it back too!

speakout · 25/04/2021 20:35

Maybe shoplift OP?
Baggy jumper and pregnancy pants? A couple down the back - a booty? Fake a child?

Livpool · 25/04/2021 20:41

This wouldn't bother me but one of my friends is like this about san pro. I saw her once buying some and she made up some weird story about not needing them right there and then while going bright red.

It was weird

Wingedharpy · 25/04/2021 20:42

I know it's not the point of the thread, but just wanted to say, NOT everyone pees.
Many folk on dialysis don't pee - not all, but some.
AFAIK everyone poos, though not necessarily from their bum.
As you were....

@TracyBeakerSoYeah and @PrincessandthePeach, how sad.
Sorry you experienced that sort of treatment.
