To hate buying toilet paper

I find it embarrassing, especially if it’s the only thing I buy (not so bad as part of the weekly shop). I ran into a work colleague earlier coming out of the shop holding nothing but a big pack of toilet roll. I‘m always scared that the person on the till/anyone who sees me will be assuming that I’m going straight home to do a massive poo.
I know it’s silly because obviously everyone buys it but I normally make my husband buy it.
Anyone else have this worry?

I totally get where you're coming from OP, I don't like it either Blush

LeopardSheet · 25/04/2021 17:50

Maybe it was just extra embarrassing earlier because I ran into one of my boss’s bosses and we were chatting for a little while because we’d not seen eachother for over a year due to wfh. And i could barely see over the huge pack of toilet roll I was holding and don’t know him well enough to make a joke about it so neither of us mentioned it. And when I said “right well I need to head home” it suddenly occurred to me that he could be thinking I must really need a poo. Rationally I know he wasn’t thinking that and obviously I know everyone poos.

The only time I was embarrassed buying toilet rolls was when I got two big packs, one for me and one for my mum, from the local petrol station. It was at the beginning of the first lockdown and I was paranoid that people would think I was stockpiling.

DP's mum was obsessed with buying loo rolls a few years back. The pharmacy near her had them on special offer and every time she passed, she nipped in and bought a few packs. One entire wall of their garage was just packs of toilet rolls. It was weird. Good insulation though! They're all gone now and she hasn't done anything similar since.

grumpygiraffe · 25/04/2021 17:53

Do you worry when you buy food as well? Because everybody who sees you will be imagining you shitting it out.

ArnottsUnderpass · 25/04/2021 17:54

Also going to suggest a subscription to bog roll from Who Gives a Crap. And they're fragrance free, recycled paper and help fund loos in developing countries.

Win win.

VodkaSlimline · 25/04/2021 17:56

Bless you. Hauling a multipack of loo roll home isn't the most elegant look, but I don't think anyone will judge you for it.

Why not buy it online? Amazon has good deals on bulk orders...

Sparklingbrook · 25/04/2021 17:56

What the what now? Do people generally go out to buy packs of loo roll because they need a massive poo immediately? Confused

It wasn't that long ago that everyone was buying as much loo roll as they could find. They are probably still working there way through the stockpile from April 2020.

Sparklingbrook · 25/04/2021 17:57

kimlo · 25/04/2021 17:57

I get mine off amazon. Only time it was even a little bit embarassing was every time we have gone in to lockdown, but even then I didn't care.

MajorNeville · 25/04/2021 17:57

@NavigatingAdolescence

We get a massive box from Who Gives A Crap every 3 months. They’re even gift wrapped. :)
Me too!
LyndaSnellsSniff · 25/04/2021 17:58

As long as you didn’t triumphantly wave the toilet rolls in the air as you said you had to head home, he probably didn’t notice.

ichewedyourpen · 25/04/2021 17:58

You could always cut up some sheets of newspaper and use them, problem solved and you'll save a fiver too (assuming you use the local advertiser, Metro etc).

Also deters tradesmen / visitors / MIL from using your bog so a win-win, I'd say

horsemadgal · 25/04/2021 18:03

I had to do the walk of shame with my 4 multipacks from Farmfoods right from one end of the shopping centre to the other. The looks I got, but they were such a bargain Grin

TheVampiresWife · 25/04/2021 18:37

When I was growing up in the 70s/80s the staff in my local corner shop (proper old fashioned set up, very Open All Hours) used to wrap toilet roll and sanpro in newspaper so you could carry them home discreetly. Of course whenever me and my little brother saw people carrying newspaper parcels down our street we would piss ourselves, but in fairness we were about six and toilet humour was the height of hilarity.

You could always try the newspaper trick, OP. Or alternatively, just stop worrying, because everyone shits.

PrincessandthePeach · 25/04/2021 18:42

OMG, I'm like this!!! I get so ashamed and feel awkward. I know it's irrational since everyone uses it.
Think it's because at home as a teen I had an ensuite and always had to ask my parents for toilet roll and they always made a big deal about it.

Skyliner001 · 25/04/2021 18:43

Literally totally get this 😂😂

ArtfulScreamer · 25/04/2021 18:44

Buy yourself a basket multiple dark coloured flannels and an old fashioned nappy bin with some napisan you'll never need to buy loo rolls again!

powershowerforanhour · 25/04/2021 18:45

Just imagine the checkout person sitting on the crapper OP.

wingsnthat · 25/04/2021 18:47

Haha this was 18 year old me when I moved out 😂 shop staff would always laugh at me when I requested a bag specifically for the loo roll as when pack had its own handle

ivykaty44 · 25/04/2021 18:47

get it delivered from
who gives a carp

its cheaper as the rolls are twice as long
problem solved

Sosigsandwich · 25/04/2021 18:49

What in earth?! This has got to be a joke?!

Exhausted4ever · 25/04/2021 18:52

Seriously? I mean as a woman you're going to use more loo roll for peeing than pooing anyways? And literally every single person pees and poos. It's totally not embarrassing to buy loo rolls

FizzyApricot · 25/04/2021 18:54

I had a housemate who refused to buy loo roll becuase he'd have to walk home with it. Really weird. We ended up just taking the money off him and buying it for him when it was his turn.

Pyewackect · 25/04/2021 18:56

Go on Groupon and order a shed load. You’ll be able to shit with alacrity and without a hint of embarrassment. Happy crapping.

Coulddowithanap · 25/04/2021 19:00

I can honestly say that I've never thought 'they must be rushing home for a poo' when seeing someone leave a shop with toilet roll.
