AIBU?

If you saw a pregnant woman pull down her mask for a few moments, would you confront her?

Had a woman confront me today I’m a supermarket for pulling my mask down for a few gulps of air. Suddenly felt very faint and breathless and just needed to suck in a few deep breaths, then returned the mask to my face.
Woman confronted me, accusing me of putting the whole store in danger and how people like me are the reason we are in this situation in the first place. She hadn’t confronted anyone else wearing lanyards, just me.

Was I being unreasonable? Should I have just left the store? Or was she being OTT.

YANBU. Feeling faint or breathless is a health condition albeit temporary so you have every right to. If you had ignored your instinct and kept your mask on but then passed out I’m pretty sure first aider would remove your mask to help you breathe, and prevention is better than cure!

Sod her.

@ShutUpAlex

You have more restraint than me. I'd have told her to fuck off and mind her own nosey bastard business.

I am not pregnant, and don't have any particular health issues, but even I have to pull my mask down for 10-15 seconds now and again, because I occasionally feel that am suffocating, especially if it's hot. (Outside, OR in the shop I'm in...)

@ShutUpAlex Take no notice of busybodies like this. And congrats on your upcoming baby!!! Grin

By the way, I am also struggling to fathom why ANYone thinks YABU!!!

Probably the same type who think (and would probably say) 'yer not ill, yer only pregnant,' and would never give up their seat for a pregnant woman as 'it was her choice to get pregnant,' and would tell you to STFU if you say you're tired from lack of sleep, (because of the baby keeping you awake half the night,) because you chose to have it!

Ghastly people, truly ghastly. No emotional intelligence or compassion at all...........

None of her business whatsoever. I’m not pregnant and did the same whilst waiting in a very long queue inside today.

I did the same in a shop today as I was having palpitations and needed some air.

I think you should keep your mask on but I wouldn’t shout at you about it. Removing your mask inside isn’t a good idea.

I’m ok! I usually quite enjoy causing a scene but had my 6 year old with me and I was concentrating very hard on not being sick!

Why would you enjoy causing a scene? Do you usually like creating drama?

How unpleasant for you. I am very sorry that happened. That person was being very unreasonable.

In the supermarket where I go there is a sign saying not everyone will necessarily be wearing a mask as some will have medical reasons for not doing so. Obviously, you had a reason for pulling up your mask to breath better.💐

This happened to me today! I'm 37 weeks pregnant with my 3 year old. In a que. I pulled it down for 10 seconds.. a woman started having a go at me.

I lost my temper and gave it her back so much she stormed out. Another nice customer even said "if anyone needs to be worried, surely she's more at risk than any of us"

I will not be policed by random strangers.
I hope you are okay x

Little miss Speak your mind had obviously been practicing that rant in the mirror. She chose a someone vulnerable to practice it on. Upsetting a pregnant women she's a disgrace. I wouldn't dream of opening my mouth to anyone.

@Oilpyi

It’s occupying a lot of nutters right now, mask policing. Today I was drinking water on a long hot train journey and paused between gulps, maybe 20 seconds before I had a man shout at me...

Bet he wouldn't have done that to a man.

I'd have told to fuck off, OP. YANBU.

Oh my gosh what a cow! I pull mine down for air in the supermarket as they make the nausea worse and I'd rather that than vomit everywhere! Take no notice, sounds like she needs more things to fill out her day Hmm

What a ridiculous woman. I would of told her where to stick her mask

If you did that in my shop I’d simply ask if you were ok and needed anything.
Even during a global pandemic, there’s a place for compassion and common sense.
I’m sorry you were treated that way.

I am someone who gets pissed when I see people wearing their masks incorrectly or not at all, I work in a shop and do remind people to put their mask back on if it has slipped off etc. But you’re pregnant ffs!!! Unless you were coughing all over the shelves when you took it off you definitely aren’t being unreasonable. Take no notice.

Also heavily pg here and have done this several times throughout my pregnancy. At the start it was because the masks made the nausea worse, but now its just the feeling of breathlessness in a hot and stuffy shop, it's only for 20 or 30 seconds and then I carry on. This woman was obviously looking for someone to pick on, I would have told her to do one, although the idea of vomiting on her is quite funny. Would have taught her a lesson!

Are you visibly pregnant? Trying to give this woman the benefit of the doubt here. Maybe she had a bad day or has lost someone to Covid and you got the brunt of it OP.
Regardless, as a pregnant lady take no notice. If you need a few maskless breaths then do take them.
Congratulations btw 😊

I wouldn't so much mind if these masks were solving the problem.
Yes I know the Death Rate is going down but even one death from Covid is too many. If these masks were such a lark Covid would be long gone.

Oh op sounds horrible. Hope you are feeling better.

I remember being sick in my mask in Tesco and being too scared to take it off. I wish I had now.

Firstly may I point out lanyards are for the legally exempt. Whilst I wouldn't have said anything to you I did to the old that wearing his mask under his bloody huge nose. Now that really passes me off. Either wear it properly or don't bother.
