If you saw a pregnant woman pull down her mask for a few moments, would you confront her?

Had a woman confront me today I’m a supermarket for pulling my mask down for a few gulps of air. Suddenly felt very faint and breathless and just needed to suck in a few deep breaths, then returned the mask to my face.
Woman confronted me, accusing me of putting the whole store in danger and how people like me are the reason we are in this situation in the first place. She hadn’t confronted anyone else wearing lanyards, just me.

Was I being unreasonable? Should I have just left the store? Or was she being OTT.

I have to pull mine down for a few good gulps when I've run up the stairs for a train ( I'm asthmatic).
She was just being horrible.
Luckily, most people aren't like that.

I question peoples IQ when I see dimwits driving around (Alone) wearing a mask. Sat all by themselves at a bus stop wearing a mask, or walking in open air alone near nobody. Madness. I have suffered a severe MH disorder for years keeping me in the house and have heard how bad it is 'out and about' and didn't believe it, but since getting out (baby steps)... I fear for the future. I would wear a mask for a period I could do for respect.. but seeing people in their own bloody car alone makes me wonder Confused... Anyway OP, don't worry, jusy be thankful you arn't brainwashed into thinking you can pull your mask down for a moment.

ilovesooty · 03/05/2021 02:01

I kept my mask on on a five minute drive between two appointments recently. It was more hygienic than taking it on and off in a very short space of time. Thank you for questioning my IQ though. Hmm

StardewMelons · 03/05/2021 02:02

@ilovesooty You are welcome Grin

Well you obviously don't realise how nonsensical your comments are.

And if you're waiting for a bus and you know it's due you might as well have your mask on ready rather than potentially delaying people by putting it on at the last minute.

StardewMelons · 03/05/2021 02:27

Look. I in the last 4/5 weeks have taken very small steps out of the house... so to see maybe 3/4 out of 10 people drive their car alone with a mask on is a bit worrying. Mainly for the MH services in the future!... I cannot manage to keep a mask on for much longer than a minute or 2 so the idea of interfering Aholes makes me leaving the house even worse. But on the whole, just look at the internet EVERY weekend and see there are 10,000's of people in protests, cramped together no masks, and yet goverment don't want to mention that as cases 'drop' 🤔

ilovesooty · 03/05/2021 02:37

Well if between a third and a half of people you see are driving their cars wearing masks you must live somewhere with very strange people. I only did it once for convenience and it's not something I see on a regular basis. I think mental health services have a lot to worry about though, including people experiencing anxiety due to what they're seeing and reading on the internet.

And cases are dropping.

StardewMelons · 03/05/2021 02:44

@ilovesooty I don't know how strange my area is (sounds weird to type out of context Hmm) but from living in 4 walls, to then going out, I took note of everything. (While trying to not panic about being out). .. and I was so shocked by how many people were driving alone in a mask. Each to their own, but I do worry about the affect down the line.

memberofthewedding · 03/05/2021 03:06

I would have responded "I need to see your ID"

Woman: "what do you mean?"

Me: "Are you a covid marshall, off duty police officer or similar?"

woman: "no but...

Me: "so who are what are you? Nobody and nothing except some nosy twat going around telling others what to do. F off."

CosmicHeat · 03/05/2021 08:56

Aye inconveniently there were no spikes in cases after the evil anti-lockdown protests or the the stunning and brave BLM protests two weeks later last summer. (Medias descriptors not mine btw) and no one has adequately explained why the cases went up all through winter when everyone was running around wearing masks. But no we'll just hide behind people have died, don't ask questions!

Not all doctors agree, if you think they do you're the delusional ones. Look up the Great Barrington Declaration for an alternative way to handle the situation which doesn't imprison all the healthy people. Yes some people get it bad, and it's terrible but many more don't. The same with many illnesses. The lack of wanting to think about if there is a better way is terrifying to me. It's not just blood clots from the vaccines, look up the Yellow Card system to see the very long list of side effects. Some of them deadly, some of them permanently life altering.

ConfusedAdultFemale · 03/05/2021 09:02

@StardewMelons lots of people here drive alone wearing a mask too. I just assumed they had brains to know taking off and putting a mask on increases the risk of spreading Covid and stuck theirs on before leaving the house. Not strange at all, ignore folks that clearly have a minuscule understanding of how viruses spread.

MummyJ12 · 03/05/2021 12:34

@CosmicHeat The National Bureau of Economic Research have released a paper on the BLM protests and the fact that there was no significant impact on COVID-19 cases. This concluded that a reason for this was that there were actually less people on the streets at this time because the majority of people in those areas were worried about getting caught up in incidents and violence and so they stayed home.
The virus has more trouble to transmit outside.
The rise in cases in winter are because people stay inside more and the virus can easily transmit and spread.
Of course, many people are asking questions, and challenging people, rules and restrictions. We live in a democracy! It is our job to inform ourselves properly and not buy into a worrying and misinformed narrative that is counter productive to the problem of the pandemic.

It’s about understanding human behaviour. It was a result of typical avoidance technique.

MrsHastingslikethebattle · 03/05/2021 12:44

"The whole store at risk from what? The vulnerable are vaccinated. Your so scared, stay the fuck at home and stay out of other peoples business"

That would have been my response Grin

LaBellina · 03/05/2021 14:26

She’s a nasty bullying cow.

If I would see this happen, I probably would have told the the mask policing bully to stop harassing pregnant women (in a loud voice so everyone in the shop knew that she was targeting a vulnerable woman) and would have offered you help in case you needed.
Some people are just unbelievable!

What is this @ilovesooty?

Just saw your rather nasty response to my post on another thread and now this.

Agressive is how I’d describe your behavior here.

ilovesooty · 03/05/2021 15:27

So I disagree with you on two separate threads in a few minutes? So what? It happens, and I don't even recall any other threads you've contributed to. If you think it's "aggressive" you are of course free to address that through the normal channels.

LaBellina · 03/05/2021 15:29

I have already @ilovesooty, don’t worry about that. I won’t further engage with you from now on so you can find someone else to ‘disagree’ with on several threads.

ilovesooty · 03/05/2021 15:44

I'd suggest that intervening to shout at this woman and modelling her bullying while drawing it to the attention of others would be more likely to escalate the incident and would have been unhelpful.

Howzaboutye · 03/05/2021 17:16

You should have vomited on her feet
