If you saw a pregnant woman pull down her mask for a few moments, would you confront her?

Had a woman confront me today I’m a supermarket for pulling my mask down for a few gulps of air. Suddenly felt very faint and breathless and just needed to suck in a few deep breaths, then returned the mask to my face.
Woman confronted me, accusing me of putting the whole store in danger and how people like me are the reason we are in this situation in the first place. She hadn’t confronted anyone else wearing lanyards, just me.

Was I being unreasonable? Should I have just left the store? Or was she being OTT.

She was being a tit! I don't begrudge anyone taking a breather from their mask.

Flufftc · 26/04/2021 00:22

I’d of told her to piss off and mind her own business!! 😍

floss1 · 26/04/2021 02:33

She was being absolutely ridiculous!! Shock
Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy; especially avoiding nutters and the heat in a mask!

Oilpyi - incredible!!!! ShockGrin

She sounds nuts! Did anyone come to your defence?

Went to a pub today. The staff were not wearing masks

Tossblanket · 26/04/2021 06:28

Hahaha love a hysterical covid moron.

Tell them to get fucked.

Hollyhead · 26/04/2021 06:29

Caveat - I follow mask rules.

However way too many people overestimate their effectiveness. When conversing with people they stop droplets, but that’s about it.

It is likely that they’re doing very little physically, but they’re a good reminder to people to maintain social distancing etc. So probably useful for that reason.

As the weather warms up I suspect most people will have to intermittently take them off. I don’t see compliance being as high through the summer, especially if people are living in low prevalence areas AND vaccinated.

CosmicHeat · 26/04/2021 07:06

You shouldn't be wearing a mask at all, you need all the free flowing oxygen you can get and not to make you and baby sick wearing a mask. Look up the Stafford University paper on the bad effects of mask wearing and how it does nothing to prevent transmission. Not that covid is anything to fear as it has an over 99% survival rate and the average age of death of 84. Tell the pearl clutchers to do one

I mean I don't agree with their actions but you don't really know why they are like that, so....

pam290358 · 26/04/2021 08:47

@CosmicHeat. I think your assertion that Covid ‘isn’t anything to fear’ is a dangerous one. The survival rate is high but in the UK it’s not 99% as you asserted, and scientists are shying away from quoting actual figures in this area because it’s not really known how many people have actually had Covid. The death rate among known cases so far is approaching 2% and again, can’t be quantified properly as people are still catching and dying from Covid. I agree that masks are not really that effective, but they do remind us to socially distance.

Both my partner and I are CEV and had Covid really badly in February, so we have both been advised by our GP to shield until a couple of weeks after our second vaccination. The fear factor during the illness was unnerving because when you contract Covid, no one knows how bad it will get and symptoms can worsen rapidly and unexpectedly until around days 10-14. We’re both still having symptoms and have been referred for Long Covid testing. I don’t think we’re alone in receiving this advice as the government didn’t really do a very good job in identifying people who should shield, and GPs were left to identify their own patients and advise accordingly.

So I don’t think it’s a bad thing to fear Covid - it’s not just the elderly that are dying from it, CEV people are still advised to be very careful. Even if you survive, the after effects can be very unpleasant, and Long Covid is on the rise.

Tessabelle74 · 26/04/2021 09:08

@Ilovewatermelon as a health professional, I'll stick to ACTUAL scientific facts published in peer reviewed articles rather than by tin foil hat wearing YouTubers if it's all the same to you. As for those saying covid-19 is not real/a minor illness, next time I see my 35 year old best friends widower and 2 motherless kids, I'll pass on your comments, they'll be well received I'm sure

Ash2956 · 26/04/2021 09:20

She’s bonkers!! There’s a lot of them about who just want to have a pop. Hope you are ok xx

Ilovewatermelon · 26/04/2021 09:22

@Tessabelle74

Deeply sorry for your loss and anyone who has lost anyone to any illness but I would like to point out though that I don't get my info from you tube , it's greatly censored , however there are MANY other sources with 100s if not 1000s of scientists and other health professionals who have logical questions around the whole of 'covid'. Also to point out flu has practically vanished this past year and death figures are not much higher than an average year. This is without going into the flawed PCR tests which is even public knowledge now.

If flu has 'practically vanished' but death rates are still 'not much higher than an average year', what's killing people, I wonder? I mean, without flu, and if covid isn't killing people as you claim it isn't, you'd think numbers would have fallen in their tens of thousands, surely?

Of course none of that takes into account that death rates over the last year have been much, much higher than normal, but don't let facts get in the way of your 'research', eh.

Ilovewatermelon · 26/04/2021 09:44

@TheVampiresWife

Flu kills tens of thousands each year but we don't normally clump the numbers together over two flu seasons to make it sound worse than it is. We have people dying of lots of other issues too, like not recieving the cancer treatment they need etc.

I have done my research but if you would like to prove me wrong I'm happy to see the sources.

Boxtroll · 26/04/2021 10:11

I see so many people without facemasks or they wear their face mask underneath their nose!
No one says anything to them.

Sometimes I think people look for what they perceive to be an "easy target". She was happy to have a go at a pregnant woman but I bet she wouldn't confront a man

I feel like picking on the easy target has been the theme of the last 12 months. Old Doris gets a fine for have a cuppa on a park bench with a neighbour while 100 person funerals, illegal raves and weddings with 200+ are just moved along with barely a word said

I would like to think the vast majority of us would have nothing but concern and empathy for anyone taking a few gulps of air and if it really bothers someone that much, then move as far from harms way as possible and mind they own business

You should habe stopped at the first sentence.

Sorry for your loss but here is my insensitive unsubstantiated nonsense anyway.

Do you think someone who has suffered a loss is interested in your opinion on covid and flu?

MN drama queens - coming from a girl who can't possibly wear a mask or her oxygen will be depleted.

Ilovewatermelon · 26/04/2021 11:11

@Butwasitherdriveway

Yes the oxygen for my unborn child, I think I'll make that my priority thanks as well as the bacterial pneumonia and just sheer nonsense of it all.

Each to their own for those who want to wear one and buy into the fear propaganda. I'll carry on doing me. Chow

pam290358 · 26/04/2021 12:51

Erm, it’s not the PCR tests that are flawed it’s the lateral flow tests.

OrangeRug · 26/04/2021 13:01

What a stupid bitch.

I am genuinely unable to wear one and an old man (after I'd smiled at him and let him go in front of me in the queue I'd like to point out) gave me a load of abuse. I told him to mind his own fucking business and informed him that I wouldn't be putting up with his shit. I am only 4'11 and look very young so he clearly though I was an easy target. Once he realised it wasn't going his way he tried to recruit the store workers in his attack. They took my side and he made himself look very silly.

The past year has really brought out a lot of people's true colours.

Crikey, there is no need for that at all.
