If you saw a pregnant woman pull down her mask for a few moments, would you confront her?

Had a woman confront me today I’m a supermarket for pulling my mask down for a few gulps of air. Suddenly felt very faint and breathless and just needed to suck in a few deep breaths, then returned the mask to my face.
Woman confronted me, accusing me of putting the whole store in danger and how people like me are the reason we are in this situation in the first place. She hadn’t confronted anyone else wearing lanyards, just me.

Was I being unreasonable? Should I have just left the store? Or was she being OTT.

I 100% agree everyone should have a mask on if not genuinely exempt. However, my daughter is about to have her baby any day and does have to take her mask off to breath now and again like you and then puts it back on. If I was with her and someone confronted her for doing this then they would not like my response to them. Take your mask off to ensure you are comfortable whenever you like and ignore the fools that sadly have nothing better to do. Hope the rest of your pregnancy goes well and you have a lovely little healthy baby 👶

TheVampiresWife · 25/04/2021 19:18

Of course YANBU, OP.

And for those who don't believe that the OP was spoken to in this way - I'm exempt and I've been shouted at, threatened, told I'm a disease-breathed tramp, and been spat at. So I can well believe it.

Kempyjo · 25/04/2021 19:19

Would of told her to fuck off stupid bitch if she so bothered she shouldn't be out Smile

Ilovechinese · 25/04/2021 19:22

Woe she sounds a right bitch starting on a pregnant lady! No wonder you felt breathless, being g pregnant makes you short if breath anyway let alone wearing face masks.
A little tip, dont wear one and just say you're exempt

Chickychickydodah · 25/04/2021 19:24

Just ignore her, too many idiots about at the moment.

Oh totally believe you and the OP. I know of someone with Downs Syndrome who was screamed at for not wearing a mask and told she was killing people - COVID really has bought out the nastiness in some

Saw woman in Waitrose last week with no mask. I pointed it out to one of the staff, not sure what they did. This woman was definitely not pregnant!

She was probably exempt, and there are many reason for that. You can't see them all.

Might've been me. I was in Waitrose last week without a mask (and definitely not pg). If I'd been wearing one there's a good chance I'd have had a seizure/lost consciousness and pissed myself in the bakery aisle.

Perhaps some people would do better to mind their own business.

SelkieIntegrated · 25/04/2021 19:36

No!

TheVampiresWife · 25/04/2021 19:36

Oh, and Waitrose staff (like all shop/transport/medical staff I've encountered) are always lovely. I'm pretty certain that they will have completely ignored your tale-telling.

Mumkins42 · 25/04/2021 19:36

Cheeky so and so

TheVampiresWife · 25/04/2021 19:38

@SamW98 that is despicable.

This has been a wonderful excuse for a lot of people's inner twat to finally be unleashed.

oopsydaisyyy · 25/04/2021 19:39

silly cow

MrsLighthouse · 25/04/2021 19:39

Anxiety is a legal reason for mask exemption. ....if you felt breathless then you breathe away ! Take no notice ....some people are just frustrated control freaks 🤪

Thistimelastyear · 25/04/2021 19:42

I am pregnant and struggling with wearing a mask. I am having issues with low blood pressure and fainting, which doesn't pair well with masks. I try to avoid places that need masks but don't feel at all guilty going into somewhere without one if I feel unwell.

I wouldn't worry about it, pregnancy can be tough on the body without mask wearing on top.

nopuppiesallowed · 25/04/2021 19:45

I had coronovirus in mid January and it's left me with breathing problems (waiting for an appointment with the long Covid clinic). I literally can't breathe if I wear a mask and even a visor makes me gasp. I'm worried about going to a shop (though tbh am not really well enough to go shopping) because I can't wear either. I know I can't transmit the virus and am unlikely to get a second infection, but don't want to make others feel uncomfortable or face a tirade from someone who has no idea what long Covid feels like.

And you are proud of yourself are you? Have you got nothing better to do....y'know like getting on with your own shopping and minding your own business...I can't wait for the day some nosey busybody tries to have a go at me....they will get more than they bargained for.
SelkieIntegrated · 25/04/2021 19:48

@MumofPsuedoAdult

I did this today while I was having a (menopausal) hot flush. I would have told her to do one!!
Yes this happened to me on a bus. So public!, I took the mask off for a second and inhaled deeply but luckily nobody gave out to me. So hard though. The last thing you want when you're having a hot flush is a mask.
threatmatrix · 25/04/2021 19:49

I suggest you get a grip love. Mask wearing causes gum disease, and bad breath.

WishICouldThinkOfAGoodName · 25/04/2021 19:50

Sadly the world is full of morons. It was probably very unpleasant to be challenged like that and totally aggressive on her part. You are not in the wrong here, but maybe she didn’t realise you were pregnant? Not that it matters because she should not do it regardless.

How on EARTH can you say they definitely were not pregnant? What an a-hole you are. And didn’t even have the balls to say something yourself! I bet you’ve got loads of mates Grin
MaudesMum · 25/04/2021 20:09

@FortniteBoysMum

Firstly may I point out lanyards are for the legally exempt. Whilst I wouldn't have said anything to you I did to the old that wearing his mask under his bloody huge nose. Now that really passes me off. Either wear it properly or don't bother.
Seriously?? I've been in shops with several older people who are wearing their mask under their noses. Its quite clear to me that they're generally a bit confused but trying their best. For example, there was one older lady who was chatting cheerfully to everyone, and getting out a large biscuit tin full of coins to pay. I was pleased to see that shop staff were treating her kindly.
Ilovewatermelon · 25/04/2021 20:33

I'm 20 weeks pregnant, have started to not wear a mask, why should I deplete my baby of oxygen just to comply with something which has very little to no evidence of helping me not 'catch' covid. Was confronted yesterday , didn't mention I was pregnant just reminded him that's he's more likely to dye of bacterial pneumonia from the mask than covid.

AtomHeartMotherOfGod · 25/04/2021 20:34

Haha... completely batty, for sure. YADNBU.

Frankly, I wouldn't confront anyone for pulling down their mask, let alone a pregnant woman. I might say something for obvious flaunting but geez - I've taken my mask off briefly several times to remove errant hairs. It's two minutes close contact I think, before you become an infection transfer risk?
