I take it mentioning her or her partner is banned.

Can I just say how utterly disgusted I am from learning about the actions of her partner on here- and nearly just as much from the lack of reporting of this by the press and on here too? Disgraceful. The man still has the gall to have a live Twitter account!!!

Agree that Burchill's article veers far too often into the ridiculous. Which is such a shame when the central point she is making is so damning.

Let's be clear though, this story is just a particularly abhorrent example of what happens with unjustifiable frequency- the press allow stories about "their own" to be buried away while attacking "others" with relentless scrutiny over utter trivia (Meghan Markle and Diane Abbot being too examples that spring to mind).

Yes and what do Meghan Markle and Diane Abbott have in common, hmm? Side-note: Eric Joyce is a white man.
lljkk · 21/04/2021 06:05

Birchhill calling Knight arrogant & thick-skinned is the funniest part of what I've read on this thread.

Waiting for thread to go poof.

PandoraP · 21/04/2021 07:19

Makes me want to cancel my ST subscription. Not sure why I haven’t already

midgedude · 21/04/2021 08:03

Skimmed this, just wanted to observe that women staying with and supporting bad men is not uncommon. They think others are mistaken or the man is a victim really who just needs help. Normally on mn there would be support ( to run ) for a women in that situation. Besotted or manipulated I don't know.

Blursula · 21/04/2021 08:25

All of this was news to me. I’m gobsmacked by how this has been hidden by the media. And the fact Eric Joyce is just happily tweeting away? Makes my blood boil

FlossieTeacakesFurCoat18 · 21/04/2021 08:29

Bizarre that Knight hasn't lost her celeb twitter pals over this. Imagine if one of your friends defended her partner when you knew he'd done this 🤯

Irishterrier · 21/04/2021 08:32

I also wonder if her gang are all slightly kowtowing to her because you don't want to get on the wrong side of her.

So I doubt anyone says the truth to her, and she probably believes it's all fine and people like us are just 'trolls' or 'envious' (megalolz).

mosgirl · 21/04/2021 08:34

Almost certainly the reason why India Knight hasn't lost her celebrity Twitter followers is because of her powerful media connections.

Pebble21uk · 21/04/2021 08:34

I read about this at the time (despite the minimal coverage) and follow Knight on Twitter. Twitter was like a stream of conciousness for her... the number of tweets per day was staggering, she can have done little else!

After the trial and her, 'I'm fine' Tweets she stopped Tweeting. Her account was open but the only Tweets were to direct people to her ST columns... just the one a week. There would be several comments underneath from people raging (quite rightly in my opinion) about her supporting Joyce but as the weeks went on they got fewer.

So basically, a year on and now she thinks everyone has forgotten and 'moved on' and recently she has been back to her verbose self - Tweeting about everything again. I really think she feels that's all done and dusted now and all is fine!

For those wondering why I still follow her - it was precisely to see what the fall out from the case would be. I don't spend much time on Twitter at all (it's such a harsh platform) but dip in now and again and would specifically take a look, because quite frankly I was staggered at how little reference to it there was!

Xenia · 21/04/2021 08:36

It is certainly interesting. I still reserve judgment however until if and when more details of exactly what happened are, if ever, published.

India Knight's daughter is classed as vulnerable due to both age and special needs.

Convicted sex offenders are not allowed to live with vulnerable children and young people.

India Knight lives with Eric Joyce and not her daughter.

Her daughter lives with her father.

Make of these facts what you will.

merrymelody · 21/04/2021 08:50

Wow. I haven't read the ST in years... I'd forgotten about her until I saw this thread. I'm shocked.

Xenia · 21/04/2021 08:54

I remember when her daughter was born reading some good articles about it. I have never been against India Knight - I used to enjoy her articles until 2 years ago I just cut back on my subscriptions a bit as I was finding it hard to find time to read everything - I just have the Financial Times now. I think her disabled daughter is 16 and now lives with her father. I don't think that is necessarily a wicked or bad thing.

Also I know if someone says child porn everyone gets up in arms but there are some cases where due to the strict liability nature of the offence if it is on your computer even if you did not know what came up on the screen you are advised to plead guilty etc. It is a bit of a minefield. However I have no details other than this thread of what he looked at or indeed what he did and I would never want to be an advocate for child porn, not in a month of Sundays.

MindGrapes · 21/04/2021 09:01

Sorry if I'm being sense but has something happened recently that prompted this thread? I'm sure there was a thread at the time (when IK tweeted about being fine or whatever) which was the only way I knew about all of this - I don't really follow this kind of news and as others said, it was hardly making headlines.

I'm still shocked by it all and by seemingly no consequences...

Janaih · 21/04/2021 09:15

@Xenia Eric Joyce knew very well what was on his computer. He went searching for it specifically.
You have to actively go looking for child abuse content, its not like searching for a recipe or something.
I worked in the adult industry for 15 years on the tech side and despite having to search for some bizzare keywords, never once stumbled up child abuse images.

Irishterrier · 21/04/2021 09:19

Well said @Janiah I also work in the internet and know you do not have hideous stuff on your computer by accident.

@Xenia why are you 'reserving judgement' when Eric Joyce has already been to court and been judged? What he did is not moot.

Alsohuman · 21/04/2021 09:21

@Xenia

It is certainly interesting. I still reserve judgment however until if and when more details of exactly what happened are, if ever, published.
I’m not sure what more you need @Xenia. Isn’t it enough that she stood by a convicted paedophile and allowed their relationship to be used as part of his defence? I think that would probably be enough for most people to make a judgement.
WalkersAreNotTheOnlyCrisps · 21/04/2021 09:22

Like hell I’d plead guilty “even if I didn’t know what came up on screen”. He’s absolute filth who viewed disgusting sexual abuse of very small children. Not much reserving of judgement to be done.

mosgirl · 21/04/2021 09:25

Xenia the details were published. He was charged, tried, convicted and sentenced in court. It was in the national press, but certainly nowhere near the front pages.

the80sweregreat · 21/04/2021 09:27

I noticed that the link below from the Guardian about Joyce was dated 7th April last year. The country was in its first full lockdown and it must have been buried deep as all the focus was on this. Most other news didn't really take any precedence.
I had no idea about this at all. He sounds such a creep :(

The conviction was in August last year. Even in normal times August is a slow news month, hence the “silly season”. It was especially quiet last year, yet it got minimal coverage. 🤔

Someone started a thread the other day which got pulled. I think the starting point was that IK had written a column criticising the dieting industry but has herself written a diet book. The thread rapidly moved onto more general problems with IK, specifically her continued involvement with EJ, even after his conviction.

Indeed. But for the professional contrarians, resort to ‘whataboutery’ is all they’ve got in the face of an uncontested guilty plea and conviction.
