People on marketplace can be so weird!

Messaged someone asking if I could buy a plant pot. They said sure. Arranged to pick up this week. I messaged to confirm and heard nothing. Messages very politely again saying I'd still love the plant pot so please let me know when is ideal time to collect, but again nothing. Left a couple of days between each message. Got my friend to message and they've now blocked me and are selling for the same price to my friend (they're going to get a shock when I turn up!). It's so badly regulated, there's no way for me to leave a review. So, how awkward do I make her feel when I go to collect? Or just don't say anything at all? 😁

Is this going to be one of those posts where the op never comes back so we never get to hear the outcome 😱

Lollypop701 · 21/04/2021 08:38

@Happycat1212 ... might have been arrested and still banged up?

StylishDuck · 21/04/2021 08:44

@ToryStelling

Agree with *@SquirtleSquad*, just say you’re collecting on behalf of someone. You could even ask your friend to message saying “thanks my sister/friend/flatmate is popping over to collect it”.

There’s some proper weird behaviour on Marketplace. I sold a desk chair a couple of months ago, had about 20 “is this still available?” messages and replied to all of them - most never bothered to reply again.

One woman wanted it and asked to collect the following afternoon. Didn’t show up and when I asked where she was I got a very abrupt reply three hours later saying “I’m in work now” Hmm

Complete and utter time wasters.

I think when you're scrolling through market place on your phone it's quite easy to accidentally hit the "is this still available" button which then automatically sends the seller a message. This has happened to me a few times. Although I always follow it up with an apology and say I hit the button by accident.
Silverparting · 21/04/2021 08:48

I was threatened with violence by somebody who said the price of my item was too high.

I didn't reply and now am blocked from Marketplace which means ai cannot access any page that sells, which is a pain.

Ok my appearance isn't that weird. I have a shaved head but so do many, many black women. I also don't have a face full of piercings. Just my nose and my upper lip that's it. My profile just has a cover photo of me, my son and my nephew all holding hands on the beach and the only posts you can see as a non friend are the ones where I've donated to charity. The rest is locked down.

Safe to say she looked at me through the window and didn't come to the door. The plant pot was actually sat outside in her front garden. My god was I tempted!!!

Feeling rather deflated but glad I went. My friend said her friend was going to collect for her and she said absolutely fine. Definitely due to my appearance. At least I know my paranoia isn't just in my head!

I’m so sorry radiateforme, that’s really shitty FlowersFlowers

GingerFigs · 21/04/2021 09:08

Some people are just weird. I'm sorry to read this @radiateforme If that woman is being weird because of your appearance then she definitely isn't worth giving any of your money to!!!!

radiateforme · 21/04/2021 09:15

I was technically going to have the last laugh re the plant pot as it's worth well over £80 and she was selling it for 10! Never mind. Bigger things going on in the world! Very pleased about the Derek Chauvin outcome and focusing on positive change today. Thanks everyone. Who knew a plant pot could cause so much anxiety!

memberofthewedding · 21/04/2021 09:18

How do the sellers know what you look like? Do you need to supply a photo to buy anything? Weird.

Blossomandbee · 21/04/2021 09:19

I agree people are so strange.
Block her so you don't come across any of her items again op, I hope you find a better/cheaper pot somewhere else!

babbaloushka · 21/04/2021 09:22

FFS that's awful OP. Can your friend leave an explanatory review?

Sparklfairy · 21/04/2021 09:23

If the plant pot was outside I'd honestly have shoved the tenner through her letterbox and given her a cheery wave through the window as I walked off with it. Judgy cunts everywhere, I'm sorry OP Flowers

Cantrecall · 21/04/2021 09:26

Agree with the giving away things for free is actually more grief!! Would rather pay someone to collect old beds/furniture etc now and take to the tip than try and give them for free on fb ever again 😂 people are so weird, rude and entitled.

Glad you got the plant pot in the end!

CausingChaos2 · 21/04/2021 09:28

So sorry OP, that is just awful. There should be a way to leave a review for sellers like this.

radiateforme · 21/04/2021 09:29

I didn't get it 😅

No chance I was just going to take it. She had cameras on her house and I wasn't about to be accused of theft! Not worth the hassle. It's ok.

They see your Facebook profile pic I imagine
JustJoinedRightNow · 21/04/2021 09:29

I don’t think OP did get the plant pot though??

Sorry OP. That’s really shit that she did that to you.

YellowTwinklyStar · 21/04/2021 09:31

It's not ok OP. I'm sorry there are such horrible people in this world.

radiateforme · 21/04/2021 09:31

Well they can see your profile pic and anything on your Facebook profile that is public.

I'm used to it sadly. I don't worry about my own feelings. My son's, and my niece and nephews however I worry for. Things like this can really screw with your head when you're a kid and can't rationalise what's going on.

How awful for you op some people are just vile.

PhatPhanny · 21/04/2021 09:38

Should have posted the money and took the pot.
It was an arranged sale 😁

HumunaHey · 21/04/2021 09:46

@NicolaDunsire

Her loss if no one else buys the pot. Some people's attitude only ends up with them spiting themselves.

If you really wanted the pot, you could get a last laugh in if your friend could go and collect it for you. She could mention when collecting "my friend is going to LOVE this, you might have seen her before - black lady with a shaved head. She popped by before but no one was in" Grin

But perhaps I'm becoming way too invested in this.

Saz12 · 21/04/2021 09:46

OP, that’s crap for you. Marketplace is full of weirdos and CFs, but that sounds so racist I can’t think of any other explanation.

If a buyer had a bunch of aggressive-sounding posts on FB then they’d need to meet me in public place instead (I live rural w no neighbours). But a few polite messages from someone whose picture was of walking along a beach with a couple kids? I’d feel safe enough!
