People on marketplace can be so weird!

Messaged someone asking if I could buy a plant pot. They said sure. Arranged to pick up this week. I messaged to confirm and heard nothing. Messages very politely again saying I'd still love the plant pot so please let me know when is ideal time to collect, but again nothing. Left a couple of days between each message. Got my friend to message and they've now blocked me and are selling for the same price to my friend (they're going to get a shock when I turn up!). It's so badly regulated, there's no way for me to leave a review. So, how awkward do I make her feel when I go to collect? Or just don't say anything at all? 😁

@Rainbowx

Actually I'm going against the grain here and think you turning up is very wrong especially after she is expecting someone else and could report you to fb and the police as impersonating someone, she may have a valid personal reason (or not) but it could backfire on you .
A very valid personal reason. Based on my one profile photo. Which shows a tall black woman and that's it? Ooookayyy.... Also lol at the reporting to Facebook bit 🤣

If she questions you "impersonating" someone or calls the police (Hmmyeah right) just say you're collecting it on behalf of your friend because she had to work.

MaryIsA · 20/04/2021 10:14

Reporting to FAcebook? Yeah that works. Let us know how you get on OP.

radiateforme · 20/04/2021 10:27

Imagine if she actually calls the police... Officer : how did she get your address? Seller : I gave it to her mate on the internet. Officer : what has she done to threaten you? Seller : she's at my house when her friend was meant to be here instead, even though they are both complete strangers. Officer : so she's committed no crime, obtained your address legally, is collecting something that you are selling on behalf of her friend, and you want me to arrest her? Seller : yes officer.

Haha haha!

I had someone PayPal the money for an piece of furniture because they really wanted it (apparently) & now they won’t bloody come collect it.

Hope you get your pot OP! Let us know Grin

Outbutnotoutout · 20/04/2021 10:36

Place marking.

I hope she hands it over, sorry you're being treated like this

LostInTime · 20/04/2021 10:47

This had better be a very nice plant pot!
What a stress!

Milkand2sugarsplease · 20/04/2021 11:00

Giving things away is bloody hard work too. Just given some furniture away. I had messages asking for it, no problem. Arranged collection only for them not to show. I messaged later to say if offered it to the next person in line and they messaged back to say that they were still coming, they just didn't know when.

Then had people offering to pay me for an item if they could have it instead of the first person that had asked for it because she 'really needed it'.

Then had someone call to collect one of the items only to tell me they only needed half of it so could they leave the rest. I was like, no, I'll never get rid of the other half so it's either all (and they dispose of the bit they didn't need) or nothing and I'll let the next person in line have it.

Oh and the people that ask if, as well as it being free, you'll also arrange deliver for them too!!

MalcolmTuckersBollockingface · 20/04/2021 11:40

@romdowa

I hate facebook marketplace for both buying and selling, it's just so odd. We had a woman recently who couldnt find our house and then accused us of messing her around. She had our postcode and address and we gave her directions , I've no idea what more she wanted ... a trail of breadcrumbs?
I have had this more times than I care to mention. Our postcode doesn’t take you directly to our house, so commonly, we have to provide further directions. A lot of people really cannot fathom this and start getting really arsey.
ToryStelling · 20/04/2021 12:16

Agree with @SquirtleSquad, just say you’re collecting on behalf of someone. You could even ask your friend to message saying “thanks my sister/friend/flatmate is popping over to collect it”.

There’s some proper weird behaviour on Marketplace. I sold a desk chair a couple of months ago, had about 20 “is this still available?” messages and replied to all of them - most never bothered to reply again.

One woman wanted it and asked to collect the following afternoon. Didn’t show up and when I asked where she was I got a very abrupt reply three hours later saying “I’m in work now” Hmm

Complete and utter time wasters.

Blossomandbee · 20/04/2021 12:35

Marketplace is full of strange people and time wasters. I've been randomly blocked whilst trying to buy something (I'm never rude or ask for delivery etc.)
I've had some amazing time wasters and excuses, people can't even be bothered to turn up for free items.

I hope you get your pot OP. I'm slightly baffled why people are suggesting some kind of crime might have been committed by you collecting it Confused

ConfusedAdultFemale · 20/04/2021 12:54

@Blossomandbee I never meant to suggest a crime was being committed, sorry if it came across that way @OP! I just meant you’ve got some folk on here that think it’s a crime if someone phones or knocks on the door without first asking if they can, I’d not be surprised if they were the same people that called 101 for strangers at their door when they’re expecting someone else

woofgoesthecat · 20/04/2021 14:04

Please show us the pot @radiateforme Smile

EasterEggBelly · 20/04/2021 14:12

I hear you!
I had an expensive toy I was giving away as part of a bundle.
A woman messaged me to ask if she could have that one toy, not the whole bundle. I reluctantly agreed because I just wanted rid.
We arranged collection. She didn’t show.
I messaged her. She apparently forgot, still wants it. Will message me to rearrange. Nothing since. I still have the toy.

I then realised I’m chasing up someone, to give them something worth a lot of money, for free! I’m chasing them!

I resisted it for £20 and sold it within the week.

AdobeWanKenobi · 20/04/2021 17:34

report you to fb and the police as impersonating someone

Funniest thing I've read on here today that.
FB are happy to let an advert run locally for fake currency. Apparently it breaks no rules, so based on that do you really think they will do anything other than laugh their arses off at OP's ingenuity?

HumunaHey · 20/04/2021 20:09

Did you get the plant pot, @radiateforme?

Blankspace101 · 20/04/2021 20:11

Make them feel as awkward as you can.

Thewinterofdiscontent · 20/04/2021 20:31

It’s bound to be appearance or what’s on the rest of your profile. That’s all people have to go on and they are handing out their address.
When you say shaved head and piercings, how many are we talking?

I wouldn’t be giving my address out to a skinny white women that looked like she had a bit of a drug habit for instance. I mean I would have no idea if that was the reality but would base it on a quick search of her profile.

Glitterblue · 20/04/2021 20:40

Hope you got on OK, OP! How odd though, I always just sell to the first person who responds!

Starburst8 · 20/04/2021 21:02

I find market place sellers odd. I messaged someone regarding an item and asked if they could post and I'd obviously pay that on top. All agreed and even agreed to pay asking price.
An hour later they messaged me asking for £10 extra, I obviously declined. They got really annoyed and rude then told me they'd rather give it away!

Teapotsandtablecloths · 20/04/2021 23:13

How did it go OP?

CandidaDoyle · 20/04/2021 23:18

Shameless place marking

deardia · 20/04/2021 23:29

A

eatsleepread · 20/04/2021 23:45

Funnily enough, I've just quit my local FB Marketplace group. There's some bonkers folk on there, and they're absolutely brutal! Constant pisstaking of sellers' items, etc. Some people have too much time on their hands. The odd racist comment ('not more Polish shite' Hmm) and poor moderation.

eatsleepread · 20/04/2021 23:50

I also laid into a guy on there recently. Girl was advertising some thigh length boots, and was basically called a prostitute!! Misogynistic prick.
