I was wondering today whether GPs see other GPs if they are ill? Can anyone tell me? I'm assuming yes as they wouldn't be allowed to prescribe medications for themselves?

What other random things have you always wondered/wanted to know?

Wow a maths degree and all that background for £14k in London.? Is that even minimum wage for full time in London? Surely a typo!![/quote]
Probably 140K!

FelicityBeedle · 21/04/2021 01:53

@Iamblossom
I don’t know the answer to your exact question, but our need to take a breath is based on CO2 levels rather than O2 levels, and is sensed in the carotid. We get the urge to take a breath quite prematurely, we could hold our breath for a lot longer, and some people who hold records for free diving and breath holding have trained to overcome this instinct and can therefore hold breath for 15-20 minutes until O2 is very seriously depleted in the lung. So even if we don’t continue rapid breathing once unconscious, we likely wouldn’t come to harm as the oxygen debt would be repaid and the CO2 levels will drop

What I want to know is how supermarkets and manufacturers like Rowse manufacture industrial quantities of honey. Do they have a billion bees in a warehouse somewhere?

iloveeverykindofcat · 21/04/2021 05:50

According to my dad it depended what he was thinking about. If it was something connected to his past or homeland he thought in his native language. If it was connected to the present or what he was currently doing he thought in English.

@PollyPepper

I'd love to know what a male orgasm feels like Blush

I heard that if a man had a female orgasm they would die as it is so much more intense, I am almost certain this isn't true! Which one is 'better' I wonder??

I doubt we’d die 😁

We can have two different types of orgasm, I have no idea if women can.

Do apes have periods just like humans?

SimonJT · 21/04/2021 06:19

@Allmyarseandpeggymartin

I’ve thought of another.

What language do people “think” in if they are bilingual?

It depends on the person.

I speak Urdu and English.

My partner speaks Swedish, English and German.

I largely think in Urdu, the only time I really think in English is when I’m thinking about a work task. I think it does depend on your language skills, I’m not naturally good at languages so I still regularly have to essentially translate in my head between Urdu and English. So when you type you say the words in your head right? Well I say them all in Urdu, so the as I type I have to work out the English version.

My partner is equally fluent in his three languages, he mainly thinks in English.

If the Property Brothers are identical twins, why is Drew so much more handsome?

Golf. Why?😆
Golf is how flag poles are made. Each player has an egg, which he pokes with a stick until it goes into a hole. Then a flag pole grows out of the hole. It's fascinating to watch for about 10 seconds.

So in the same league as “watching the grass grow/paint dry” then? Got it!

As I explained up thread it will be 14k. This is not a real job, its a way for the company to bring in a worker most likely from India and pay them Indian wages in the UK. It is very very common in IT

I've never seen the show, but apart from styling and different life experience, there's always a bit of in utero developmental difference between identical twins. Maybe drew got the better womb location.

Not when I'm writing code.

I saw a meme that said ‘the aim of golf is to play as little golf as possible’ 😂

I also have a question about astronomy. Are there any stars that can be seen in the night sky (with the naked eye or a modest telescope), that no longer exist? If so, I’d love to see them.

Probably, but we won't know they're no longer there until the light they used to emit finishes travelling to us. Any of the stars you see could be long gone.

Dullardmullard · 21/04/2021 09:09

Why do dogs have a 3 week period and can be mated on day 9-14 of that period? They are pregnant 9 weeks why can’t we?

Are we alone and is there any aliens out there? I’d like to think there was to be honest but I do think our governments would hide it from us. Not sure why I think that though.

Why are cars not built to only go 70 miles an hour as we are curtailed to that on motorways in the UK not sure in other countries

So if they come to the UK that would be illegal to work for that wage but not if they stay in their own country that’s sad

Perhaps not any of them, some are 'young', but some of the ones identified as being close to supernova conditions could have gone. Here's a few candidates:

Just to add to the condoms thing (sorry, bringing the tone down Grin), the 18th century diaries of Dr Johnson's biographer James Boswell are very informative. He used condoms made of lambs' intestines. They were washable and reusable (yeuch) and tied with a ribbon. He didn't like them much, though, and tended to be fairly reckless in his encounters - which explains why he was regularly plagued with STDs (and had to undergo the horrific treatment of the day - mercury wasn't pleasant). However, condoms were intended primarily as a defence against infection for men, not as birth control. If 'Louisa', the actress he had regular assignations with, had got pregnant, I can't imagine Boswell doing the decent thing by her.

Thank you. Yes, that does sound likely in that case, doesn't it? Such cruel disease Sad

At what stage are you actually legally married?*

I got married 5 years ago and the Registrar was very clear that you are legally married when the wife says the word 'husband' in this vow:-

" I call upon these persons here present to witness that I (your name) do take thee (your partners name) to be my lawful wedded husband."

I have also wondered why you're allowed to sell a car that goes 150mph in a country where it's only ever legal to drive it at half that speed. I have had numbly answers about the car needing a certain max capacity in order to manage 70mph comfortably, and that they won't change the entire intestines of cars just for the UK market. I still wonder why in this day and age you couldn't just put a little computer chip in that says "nope".

What about marriages where there isn’t a husband/a wife, wonder when it becomes legal in those.
Sparklingbrook · 21/04/2021 10:03

Well I wouldn’t consider anyone legally married until the signing of the register TBH.

You're right, this could be done very easily. All large goods vehicles in the EU and UK have been limited to 90kmh for many years.
Some high performance cars already have a manufacturer limit of 250kmh.
It's probably hard to limit for just UK. Germany has no limit on some sections of their motorways.
There would be nothing to stop the maniacs who want to importing a car from Germany.

You might have missed it earlier on in the thread when I commented, but the actual starting salary is 26K. I went directly to the actual company website to check, rather than the Reed recruitment one. Reed have clearly made a mistake.
