I was wondering today whether GPs see other GPs if they are ill? Can anyone tell me? I'm assuming yes as they wouldn't be allowed to prescribe medications for themselves?

What other random things have you always wondered/wanted to know?

Do midwifes ever walk down the street, think they recognise someone then realise they do cos they delivered their baby?

Also, this has bugged me for years. In sex and the city Miranda calls the baby Brady after Steve's surname so he's Brady Hobbs. But what happened when she Marries Steve a couple of seasons later. Is he called Brady Brady? Or does he just have a different surname from the rest of the family?

@AvocadosBeforeMortgages

What happens if you're walking the dog alone, break your leg and have to call an ambulance?

Assuming no friends / family are able to come and retrieve DDog, does the ambulance take the dog with you? What if you're many miles from home and can't drop the dog home on the way to hospital?

I've never found the answer to this question so once drove me and the dog an hour home with what turned out to be a badly broken arm Blush

I should imagine that ambulance crews would call the police to look after a dog.

I’ve watched loads of Air Ambulance documentaries. They often go to remote areas, and often the local mountain rescue get there first. I recall one episode where a walker had to be airlifted, and the mountain rescue team took her dog to look after until someone else could collect it.

(There are mountain rescue teams all over the place, not just on mountains. There are teams that cover the Brecon Beacons.)

Incidentally, I’ve also watched loads of RNLI documentaries. They always go out for a dog that’s fallen into the sea. Partly because it’s a living creature, but mostly because owners want to jump in to rescue their dog and then end up in trouble themselves.

Why aren't unco-operative serious criminals made to undergo hypnosis or given sodium pentathol to try to get them to reveal crucial details? I always think this about Keith Bennett's poor mother who died not knowing where Brady & Hindley left him Sad

@stclair

Why the contestants, Paul, Prue etc on GBBO wear the same clothes on both baking days. And they always look fresh and clean the next day.
This is so they can film talking heads/reactions to things from the first day on the second without it being obvious.

Things like Only Connect and Countdown work the other way around — you'll film multiple episodes on one day, but change clothes in between. University Challenge is filmed over three sessions — you can compare haircuts or beards to give you an idea of which episodes were filmed in the same block.

Loving this thread! Mine are not very highbrow but keep me awake at night!
  1. How do bus drivers use the loo when working?
  1. How do they serve the food up at the same temperature on master chef to give everyone the same chance?
  1. Why is it Liver-pool but the Lie-ver building and the Lie-ver birds ( ancient sit com for younger members)

It’s true that vets can’t treat humans, but it’s also true that medical doctors can’t treat animals. Some years ago, I was working for a Consultant Ophthalmologist. A few years earlier, she had carried out a cataract operation on a gorilla. But there had to be a vet there supervising/in charge.

Why is a telephone number pad and a calculator number pad opposite to each other, i.e. on a calculator the 1 is bottom left, but on a telephone, it's top left?

What I want to know is what happens to the Fallopian tubes/ovaries during pregnancy. The typical drawing of a non-pregnant uterus shows the Fallopian tubes coming out from near the top of the uterus. What happens as the uterus grows? Do the Fallopian tubes get stretched upwards?

@Cowbells I think and dream in English now after many years of living here. When I go home to Denmark it takes a week or two and then suddenly it’s like a switch goes and I think and dream in Danish. It always feels very odd.

  • In my local town the bus drivers go to the public toilets at the bus station, they take the float out of the 'till' on the bus and take it with them.. they also sometimes pop out into the small convenience shop, or stand and have a fag whilst waiting too.. (pre Covid times mind)

asked again -that's his description for the mechanical end bit , but he says the before is very pleasurable and builds up to the release better at action than words

I believe that if identical twins go on to have children, their children are cousins only by family, but by blood are genetically siblings as their parent/s have identical DNA. So, essentially it would be very difficult determining who had carried which child if reliant on DNA as the matches (esp if 2 identical twins had kids with identical twins) would be impossible to tell apart.

I am sure I am right Smile ^

What do they do with the "holes" in polo mints.

How does a tablet stop a headache?

You used to be able to buy little tubs of polo 'holes' (also know as middle bits) They were not unlike tic tacs.

Haven't read the full 30 pages so apologies if this has already been asked.
How does the Queen mount a horse? I'm 60 and need a full size mounting block due to dodgy knees and even then it's a bit of a struggle. I'm otherwise very fit and active.
The Queen is about 95 - how does she do it!

    DanFmDorking · 20/04/2021 23:05

@PollyPepper - OK, here we go - I’ve Googled it because others have better word skills than I have.

    I've picked these -

    a) It’s the most fantastic experience of being satisfied and relieved at the same time. It lasts a few moments before you come back down to earth. It's all physical pleasure and I don't even think I have the awareness to describe it.

    b) On a physical level, it feels like your whole groin area is tensing up. It's like getting a cramp, but in a good way. Like, your dick is having a spasm, but it feels great. It's hard to explain.

    c) Think back to the time when you had to pee really bad. Like, a road trip when you realized you had to go but had to wait an hour to get to the next rest stop. Then you finally manage to find a toilet. Remember that sense of relief? Now multiply that by 1,000.

Re condoms, the oldest condoms were found in a cesspit at Dudley Castle, which is near me. They dated back to 1642 and were made of animal membrane.

Sorry, another Jesus question. If he existed, did he have children? I'd say yes, but I may just have taken The Da Vinci Code too seriously!

What happens to second class post? Is it separated from the first class post and then just sits there for an extra day waiting to be sorted and posted?
Former postie, not in the UK but 2 different European countries. Basically, if no other 1st class post is going to the house and it’s a busy day, it can be left behind. In most cases, in my experience, we used to just deliver it on the day.

    *I’ve thought of another.

What language do people “think” in if they are bilingual?*

I’m Irish and fluent in both Irish and English. Most Irish people aren’t actually fluent in Irish. Anyway, I think in both languages, not simultaneously obviously, but randomly I could start thinking about something in either language. Or I could be watching tv which is in English and be thinking in Irish about what’s happening on it. I mostly dream in English but do sometimes dream in Irish.

Why aren't unco-operative serious criminals made to undergo hypnosis or given sodium pentathol to try to get them to reveal crucial details?

Because neither of them work. Hypnosis is woo horseshit and sodium pentothal is more like alcohol, in that it can lower inhibitions but absolutely does not guarantee someone will tell the truth.

    MorrisZapp · 20/04/2021 23:11

Why do firemen sleep upstairs and slide down poles instead of just sleeping downstairs?

    Gertie75 · 20/04/2021 23:11

Why are countries names different in different languages?

For instance Germany calls itself Deutsch land so surely it should be that in every language.

We don't do it with peoples names.
