AIBU?

To not iron DD’s school uniform?

DD is in Reception and this term they’re allowed wear those lovely gingham summer school dresses.

I don’t iron. I hate it. And I’ve had a weekend of drudgery.

But they really don’t look right at all, and I’m worried about sending her in looking like a scruff.

What do people do?

Am I being unreasonable?

I mean they don’t look right having been through the wash once. They were lovely new!

The secret with summer dresses is to buy those ones like a long polo shirt with collar and zip.

Even I, an ironing fiend, wouldn't iron them. And DD preferred them (even tho I loved the big cotton ones with a wide sash)

Oh I’ve not seen those. It doesn’t help me for tomorrow though Sad

DH irons the uniform every day because it matters to him. On the rare occasion he hasn't they have gone in looking very crumpled, I don't iron.

If you do a quick wash and then put them in the dryer for 20 minutes then hang them up they might look a bit better.

I'd iron it. Even if only to stop yourself worrying about it.

I bet hardly anyone irons them. I don't iron anything and definitely wouldn't start with a 5 year olds uniform.
Just hang up straight after its been washed and it will look fine

If it’s not a non-iron item then...iron it. Are you on your own? If not get your OH to iron it if you hate ironing so much.
She’s in reception. How much ironing can be in a tiny little dress? Confused

She will look scruffy and unkempt if you send her in all creased.

Re-wet them and dry flat on a radiator?

I hate ironing too and just iron new creases in when I try so we got one of those hand steamers. A quick blast with that and you wouldn't be able to tell it hasn't been ironed.

I never iron. Body heat sorts out those creases! Anyone who tells you otherwise, I'm afraid, is wasting time/life.

The only stuff I iron is uniform.. Don't let your dc be that scraggy looking dc..

I do iron, it is the only thing i really pay attention to. But that is mainly because DS1 has a range of learning needs and developmental disorders and it just makes me feel better to know he at least looks okay even if he is screaming and rocking in a corner somewhere. (I know that sounds ludicruous, but it's something I have control over!).

Only take a few minutes to run the iron over if it’s bothering you, but I used to love the Summer dresses because they only need a quick shake when they come out of the washing machine, then hung up and rarely crease.

Will ironing make you feel worse than having mum guilt?

You could have ironed a little dress in the time taken to oost and read replies.

I iron everything. I don't care how the children come home from school - a messy child has had a good day. But they will start the day clean, in ironed clothes and with styled hair.

Oh mum guilt is the fucking worst.

Actually I might iron my lot again just to be sure. Blush

The only thing I iron is school uniform. The rest gets chucked in the tumble dryer or a blast with a hand steamer

You don't have to give them a perfect iron. Just do what you can. Do you have an iron?

I don’t iron uniform, including gingham dresses. Mine are 10 and 6 and they never cared.

Iron it. I hate ironing and only do the kids uniforms because I remember scruffy kids at school being teased and I don’t want that to be my DC. Most uniform look fine if you take them straight out of the dryer and hang them up warm. But shirts/cotton dresses I would definitely iron.

Just iron it! It'll take 5 mins.

I don't iron any of my DCs' clothes! DD's summer dresses look absolutely fine if they're hung out to dry (I wouldn't tumble dry them though). It depends on the type dress of dress and the fabric I suppose.
