I switched BBC 1 on early and am waiting for Casualty. The programme on at the moment is hosted AGAIN by Paddy McGuinness. He is rarely off the screen and I cannot understand it! He has a simply dreadful dialect and will keep sounding a hard G in singing. Apart from that he yells at the top of his (Very unattractive) voice. How on earth does this man keep a job on television?

Liked him until the All Saints cheating.

peak2021 · 17/04/2021 21:12

It's a cheap schedule filler. I avoid it, as I do the drunk driver and his long time mate on ITV.

The one positive is that it means no repeats of Mrs Brown's Boys late on in the evening, which to describe as a comedy is to misuse the English language.

BuyYourOwnBBQGlenda · 17/04/2021 21:12

I have no idea who he is. Does anyone still watch live TV? Happily watching Heathers tonight in our house.

PrelovedWithValue · 17/04/2021 21:13

I would hate it if television went back to the days where everyone needed to have an RP accent.

It's the British Broadcasting Company. And all of Britain should be reflected in it.

You don't have to watch live TV to know who he is. I don't..
MotherOfGodWeeFella · 17/04/2021 21:16

I'm from near Bolton and don't find his accent fake at all. Plenty of people are happy to have a dig at northern accents. Nothing wrong with them, just different from what you're used to perhaps?

balloonsandboobies · 17/04/2021 21:16

@percheron67 in that part of the north west there is a hard g in singing. Singer / finger rhyme.
He may be annoying but it's it a bit rude to complain about his accent. He talks like someone from Bolton, which is where he's from. What accents are acceptable to you? Hmm

Sparklingbrook · 17/04/2021 21:16

Is Vernon’s Bolton accent any more authentic?

Banville · 17/04/2021 21:17

Admitting you watch live TV is the kind of thing the three Heathers would have laughed at. If they were doing their thing in 2021 rather than 1989.

JSL52 · 17/04/2021 21:17

Bloody annoying, he's on everything.

Biancadelrioisback · 17/04/2021 21:18

I love hearing northern accents on TV. It makes such a change from the RP accents that most other countries assocciate with 'english'.
As a northerner myself, when i travelled, I always had people questioning if I was English or complaining that my soft Geordie accent was 'too much'. Made me feel like I had to change it whereas my southern co-workers never did.

Pupster21 · 17/04/2021 21:18

Vernons accent is authentic, as is Peter Kay. Paddy is very exaggerated.

Eminybob · 17/04/2021 21:22

Find it odd that his wife regularly posts lingerie photos and then talks about challenges with their children with asd

I didn’t know the two things were mutually exclusive Hmm

dappledsunshine · 17/04/2021 21:30

Can't bear him. And why did is he trying to look like a middle aged Eminem Hmm

Cowssaymoo · 17/04/2021 21:33

Aww, he’s lovely!

Very likeable guy and being a Northerner myself, I like his accent.

From what I’ve read/seen on television, they’ve had a hard time with their children and isn’t she a model or something?

Give them a break!

Now, Philip schofield being on everything all the time, that’s another matter

Bluebird2021 · 17/04/2021 21:37

oops...this thread isn't the hate fest op wanted

not gone the right way!!! Grin

ThorFull · 17/04/2021 21:41

I don’t understand the comment about the hard g in singing?

Do you mean he should drop the g at the end? Like “I’m singing’ in the rain”?

ThorFull · 17/04/2021 21:43

Singin’ in the rain. Ffs.

Banville · 17/04/2021 21:43

The middle G. When he says it it sounds like Sing- Ging.

RosaLuxemburgwasright · 17/04/2021 21:44

I have no strong opinion about him being on a lot, it seems to happen with some presenter types, there's a bit too much of them and then, eventually, there isn't.

I have no issue with his accent, it's quite nice even if he is a little loud at times!

Biancadelrioisback · 17/04/2021 21:44

I think she means more like
Singingin the rain with 2 hard gs so singing runs into in

aliloandabanana · 17/04/2021 21:44

How do people think singing should be pronounced? I'm confused about that comment. Singin'? Sin'ing?

Biancadelrioisback · 17/04/2021 21:45

Now that song is stuck in my head and I'm trying it in every accent...

Pupster21 · 17/04/2021 21:47

I say sing ging and was raised in Bolton
