Me and DP are having a debate

We ordered from the local chippy tonight and I think it’s really expensive at 35.00 for 4 cheesy chips,2 savaloys and 2 sausages !

He thinks this is average 😂

I admit I haven’t got chip shop since I was a child when our mum would send us with 5.00 to feed 3 kids !

Just looked at my local chippy and that lot comes to about £20.

Really expensive, our local chippy charges £27 with free delivery, our order last time was large cod & chips, one large chips, two jumbo battered sausages, one cod roe, two pancake rolls, onion rings, mushy peas, one pickled egg & one pickled onion. Fed four adults.

Chippys at the beach vary so much the most expensive was £3.50 for a large tray of chip, another seaside chippy, charges £2.00 a portion. In the town centre you can buy a generous cone of lovely chips for 95p, so cheap.

Last time ours about £30 for 3 x scampi 1 x pie 1 x haddock and 2 large chips (enough food for 6). Essex area

18.20 here for large sausages, Saveloys and 4 large chips which feed about 2-3 so with only 2 portion of chips needed it's 12.40
@InglouriousBasterd probably not too far probably v close to wear we are moving to 😂
Moving to a SW postcode V soon but doesn’t look like our chip shop order will get any cheaper 😅
Come to Yorkshire, that order would be under £20 here, portions massive and some of the nicest fish and chips in the country, I can't eat them elsewhere as they're nowhere near as nice.

Even fish and chips wouldn't cost that much for four.

Well maybe if you had fish and chips four times, with peas and a breadcake each, you'd nearly be there, but then you're up to a bin lid sized meal each, so few people would make a dent in that much food in one meal.

Compared to our local it's similar priced. Ours is £9.50 for a large fish supper. I can get fish from the fish monger to feed all5 of us for £11 so it's ridiculous.

Not saying it makes it more acceptable but if you order via deliveroo or similar often they hike up the price!

Fish and chips twice with 2 portions of mushy peas and 2 portions of curry sauce is £13 in my local chippy.

That’s seems very expensive. My chippy order on Friday was

Jumbo sausage and chips x 2

Medium cheesy chips

Shock I’m sorry what????

Here it’s £13.90 for two cod, more chips than two humans can handle and a curry sauce

Why are you putting curry sauce in your cod? Grin (misses point of thread)

Here it's £4,75 for cod and chips. And £1.50!for a can of Coke, who h in my opinion is ridiculous so I get the drinks from the coop next door.

Curry sauce on fish and chips is lovely. All the chip shops round here sell it and if I do get a sauce, it's what I normally get. Or sometimes mushy peas but never beans or gravy, but I can see that that would go well with sausage and chips, but I never have that.

I also sometimes buy fish and a curry sauce from the chippy, and have it with microwave pilau rice after having masala fish, pilau rice and curry sauce at George's Great British Kitchen.

I've always known curry sauce with fish and chips to be the norm. It's not in the fish, it's poured on the side.

What's wrong with curry sauce with your fish and chips? Chip shops presumably sell it because people buy it...

Wow that is a lot. We paid that amount this weekend at a holiday site caravan park and that was with 3 lots of fish and a pie and lots of chips. Caravan sites are always way over priced and would usually pay around £20 at home

2x small chips x2 sausage x2 fish and x2 curry sauce is less than £10 total from our favourite chip shop.

They're all pretty expensive where I live in kent. You wont get change from a tenner with a cod and chips!

Just priced your meal up and its £26.40 though. Potatoes, cheese and sausages are not expensive!! £35 is a total rip off.

Even my 'best chip shop in the country' (and it is amazing!!) would t charge that!

I was talking about this the other day ... fish and chips used to be a cheap takeaway, now it’s similar to a curry or pizza.

We spent £51 on fish and chips for four adults recently. 4 haddock, 3 chips, 4 mushy peas and 3 curry sauce Shock

All small portions, although very generous

It seems very expensive for a meal which doesn’t include the fish which is the only thing that costs real money at a chippy. But now I check our local chippy on Uber Eats they’re asking a fiver for a portion of cheesy chips. I think it’s the delivery that brings the price up. I always collect it myself.

Around 30 for a donner kebab, sausage and chips, mini fish and chips x2, large fish and large fish and chips. There are 6 of us before anyone asks. Four adults and two children

Report
LeSquigh · 19/04/2021 09:16

Of course that’s expensive. We have a chip shop here that is massively in demand and queues out the door even in normal times. For a sausage in batter and chips it’s well under a fiver. This is Home Counties, so a relatively expensive area. He is definitely BU.
