Me and DP are having a debate

We ordered from the local chippy tonight and I think it’s really expensive at 35.00 for 4 cheesy chips,2 savaloys and 2 sausages !

He thinks this is average 😂

I admit I haven’t got chip shop since I was a child when our mum would send us with 5.00 to feed 3 kids !

Crazy price! We have cod and chips x 3 and a battered sausage for £25!

Here it’s £13.90 for two cod, more chips than two humans can handle and a curry sauce

Just put your order into our local chippys website and that lot would cost £19 and an extra £2 if you wanted it delivered.

What the heck is a saveloy??

We normally get 3 jumbo battered sausages and two regular portions of chips and get change from £10

Pease pudding and saveloy.

From our preferred chip shop (that tastes amazing) £29 (assuming regular cheesy chips not large). Free delivery.

At a passable one we will use if desperate and our favourite is not open, it came to £19, with £2 delivery.

We are in (outer) London, if that makes a difference.

At our chippy (Greater Manchester) - I make it £16.60 ... you've been had!

Cheesy chips - £1.90
Jumbo sausage - £1.50
Savaloy - £1.50

I just priced that up on our (Home Counties, not cheap) chippy website and it’s £22. You’ve been robbed!

That is very expensive. We pay about £28 for 3 fish and chips and a fish and chip sandwich. Fishcakes, sausages etc are much cheaper.

Our nearest, not so nice chippy charges about £3.50 for sausage and chips.

Well I came on the thread to see if the OP wanted a car cut and shut, but it's even more horrific.

I don't know what's worse, the price you paid for sausage and chips, the fact that no-one had fish or that you've not been to a chippy since you were a child

That’s extortionate. The only chippy around here that does cheesy chips is the more expensive one but even then it’s £25 for that order and I’m in Berkshire so not too far away from you. Non cheesy chips from the other chippy would make it only £13!

I'm in Central London and the most expensive, fancy shmancy place (that is a proper fish restaurant and has things like sea bass with sauce vierge and quinoa superfood salad on the delivery menu) charges £4 for an individual saveloy or sausage as and £3.50 for chips with added cheese if you order them separately but it's £6.90 for both if you order them together as a meal so £27.60 in total.

The normal but good chippies are more like £2.50 for the saveloy/sausage, £3 for chips.

Wow that's shocking. I can feed seven of us for less than £20 at ours, fish, chips, peas, curry and a couple of battered sausages for the kids.

Ours today was only £30.05 for 6 of us.
3 large fish, 1 pie, 2 bags of chips and batter, 1 kids fish bites and chips, 1 kids chicken nuggets and chips, and a carton of gravy.

Do they do a £300 balayage during the day and chips at night?

£11.50 here, large cheesy chips £2.50, savaloys £2.00 for a 2 and £2.50 for 2 large battered sausage. I think you have been over charged, look at the prices on their web site

I think that is extortionate (Surrey, London Borough).

That would be £13.40 at our local in the SE!!! Just regular, large chips though, not with cheese on. Utterly ridiculous. I wonder if you paid for someone elses meal???

I’ve just picked up a small fish supper and a smoked sausage supper with pickles, grand total £9.35

We get 3 cod and a large chips (feeds all 3 of us), all in for £17.50. Fish and chips is not the cheap working class takeaway it used to be.
