Random question but how much does your chop shop charge !

Me and DP are having a debate

We ordered from the local chippy tonight and I think it’s really expensive at 35.00 for 4 cheesy chips,2 savaloys and 2 sausages !

He thinks this is average 😂

I admit I haven’t got chip shop since I was a child when our mum would send us with 5.00 to feed 3 kids !

At our chippy, that would be about £12-13.

Savaloy is a red sausage thing 😂 it tastes nice but I don’t dare Google it haha we have eaten them since kids 😂

I've just priced that up on our chippy's menu (nothing better to do on a Saturday night 😆) and it would be £20.90.

I always thought a saveloy was just another word for a sausage - what's the difference? I don't eat sausages so it's never been something I've noticed!

Savaloy is a type of sausage but a very specific one, it's not another word for sausage and isn't to everyone's taste

You've been ripped off, why would you pay that seriously! I'm in the West Scotland and we don't do saveloys but 4 chips n cheese and 4 sausages would be about £15

Cheesy chips £3.50 - comes with beans, gravy or curry sauce x4 = £14
Saveloy £1.70 x 2 = £3.40
Sausage (jumbo) £ 1.60 x2 = £3.20
Sausage (small) £1.20 x 2 = £2.40

So for jumbo sausages = £20.60
Or for normal sausages = £19.80

That's disgusting. Fucking rip off.

My local chippy was about 8 or 9 quid for cod and chips and probably 1.70 for a sausage. I don't know how much large chips were, maybe 2.50.

We got two haddock and chips and an OAP cod and chips last time (for DS the kids' menu only has nuggets etc £5.80 for his) and some curry sauce, it was just under £30. We live on the coast so the fish is fresh and portions are generous. Still expensive though!

You are ok, they are just seasoned pork sausages these days.
Although the name originally comes from old Italian for 'pigs brains'

That's not far off what we pay (admittedly we haven't had it for about a year though) and we usually get 4 large cod and one medium chips, 2 mushy peas and tartare sauce. I would have thought it would be less for sausages.

Anyway, I’m with you OP, I’d have expected to pay around £10 for that lot.

That’s ridiculous. Mind you I always buy one portion of chips between two and it’s still too much from my chip shop.

I've just priced it exactly from my local (I'm in Epsom so pretty close to you I think :-)) and I'm getting £29.20 excluding delivery ...
