To think Cuthbert looks like a Colin who lived a hard life?

Be realistic, Cuthbert looks a version of Colin who has had a hard life and is barely clinging on to his previous good looks.

If I was M&S I’d be pissed off too, they could have at least made his eyes straight. Grin

Thanks for the recommendations. I suspect Colin will be in high demand for some time to come, but I will look out for his ugly little face next time I'm in m&s.

Ontheboardwalk · 16/04/2021 22:52

I thought you were all exaggerating about Cuthbert but he’s a dodgy one. You def would cross the street if you saw him and his 6 legs coming towards you

I think the other copies have been decent copies and the Aldi one isn’t (just looking at him tells you he’s trouble) which will impact the boss Colin. Like selling shady goods/drugs in the true bosses name?

I won’t know cos I’m not going near Cuthbert incase he robs me and does me over good time

LieLikeALoungeroomLizard · 16/04/2021 23:32

Cuthbert looks like he's just got out of prison

JovialNickname · 17/04/2021 00:53

I so want a big slice of any caterpillar cake now

Shopaholic100 · 17/04/2021 04:44

You naughty people I’ve just had to go to the 24 hour M and S to get a Colin cake! I can confirm 10/10

SpringtimeSummertime · 17/04/2021 05:27

WHERE is a 24hr M&S? I need one near me!

SpringtimeSummertime · 17/04/2021 05:31

Seriously, why is Aldi being singled out for legal action?

My question too. I can understand that the Aldi one is very similar but the Sainsbury’s one is too! Why are they not being sued?
The ones from other supermarkets look different enough I think.

Onlinedilema · 17/04/2021 05:42

We tried to buy Cuthbert for my mum's birthday the other week. Aldi didn't have any and in all honesty I had no idea about the legal wrangle, I didn't even know the cake had a name just said let's buy a caterpillar cake.
We did get a Madiera sponge which was lovely.
Aldi are cheeky buggers who blatantly rip off branded products.
Loving this thread.

Springchickpea · 17/04/2021 06:05

Pretty sure the sainsburys and Waitrose versions are actually made in the same factory.

It’s been a long time since I had an actual Colin, but I would be interested to see the ingredients lists for comparison. M&S are pretty good at limiting palm oil in things (like their Easter chocolate, the best of the cheap chocolate out there), Aldi often do cheap knock offs with lots of ‘filler’ ingredients.

Longdistance · 17/04/2021 06:28

I’m love Aldi’s Facebook jibes. ‘It’s not just any court case #freeCuthbert.’ The Aldi PR machine are loving this.
Maybe M&S are jealous that Cuthbert is a posher name than Colin.

RigaBalsam · 17/04/2021 07:37

I don't understand the Aldi tweet to dulux though? How do we delete tweets?
Can anyone explain?

Laburnam · 17/04/2021 07:46

Cuthbert the cocaine dealing caterpillar crime gang brother has been living on the Costas for some years but the heat was on so had to return. Colin has worked his way up in the anti corruption caterpillar force and this is his way of shopping his brother! But are things alll that they seem with Colin and the caterpillar circles he has been mixing with and who is C ???

DobbyTheHouseElk · 17/04/2021 07:52

I’m going to get a Colin from Ocado next delivery. #teamcolin.

Arbadacarba · 17/04/2021 07:53

Co-op effort is especially lame.

JumpLeadsForTwo · 17/04/2021 07:54

To all those asking why Aldi: M&S have gone after Aldi because Aldi and Lidl have form for copying brands. They have recently patented the packaging for Colin and Aldi's packaging is too close to theirs unlike the other supermarkets. It is basically M&S trying to make an example of Aldi to reduce the competition (according to R4 yesterday)

MotorwayDiva · 17/04/2021 08:04

Am gutted cuthbert is off the shelves, DD loves them for family birthdays and I can't be arsed driving in town for an M&S when I'd be passing 3 aldis.
Guess I'm popping to tesco morrisons etc for one now

read an article the other day ranking about six caterpillar cake varieties from all of the supermarket chains.
You can only buy M&S food in M&S - why is that is likely confused?
There'd be more grounds surely if it was a manufacturer that sold in multiple outlets - like Thorntons or Mr Kipling?

In the meantime, why not differentiate with a dark chocolate version with marzipan ends?

Love this ! 😂
Branleuse · 17/04/2021 08:11

Is curly the catterpillar cake from tesco ok, but cuthbert from.aldi not?

Is noone else allowed to do caterpillar cakes. Are caterpillars trademarked to m&s?

Dulux had a series of tweets taking the piss out of Spurs earlier in the week - just after they had signed a sponsorship deal with them. The tweets have been deleted and, I suspect, an Arsenal fan on the Dulux socjal media team has had a bollocking.

Total whitewash.

There's no real difference in appearance between Colin and cuthbert. If you were served up any of the others outside the box you would know they weren't colin that's not the case with cuthbert. Others use sprinkles, different colours or add extra icing.
butterpuffed · 17/04/2021 08:26

I love the Aldi 'take' on branded products. Walkers could be annoyed as Aldi crisps are called Sprinters ! Luvvit, they're two steps ahead !!

Weirdwonders · 17/04/2021 08:55

I wouldn’t call taking the work and expense that goes into creating a successful brand, tracing round the packaging, filling it with something substandard and giving it a rip off name as being ‘two steps ahead’, I hope M&S win this one.

Chickenlickeninthepot · 17/04/2021 09:03

I'm an equal opportunities caterpillar cake eater. I'll give any of them a go and demand that every shop be allowed to sell a version.
