To think Cuthbert looks like a Colin who lived a hard life?

Be realistic, Cuthbert looks a version of Colin who has had a hard life and is barely clinging on to his previous good looks.

If I was M&S I’d be pissed off too, they could have at least made his eyes straight. Grin

Loving Judge Rinder on the case...

Ellpellwood · 16/04/2021 20:49

Love it Grin

In seriousness, I suspect it's because Aldi are charging £4.99 and all the others are 6 or 7 quid.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 16/04/2021 20:49

I’m wondering the same as pps, why the other similar caterpillars are allowed. We’ve often got the co op or Sainsbury’s versions.

I think it must be that it is more similar in some way - design is more similar, name more similar etc. I think to be ok they have to point to a certain number of differences. Perhaps Aldi don’t have this but the others do.

This whole thread is how m and s snd aldi should of played it

mummabubs · 16/04/2021 20:50

I went to try and buy Cuthbert today as it's DH's birthday tomorrow and he wants to sample the legal evil that is Cuthbert... Went to 2 Aldis and both confirmed they've had to take Cuthbert off the shelf since the lawsuit was published so I left empty handed! 😱😭

I wonder if Wiggles gets away with it as they have a white chocolate face so look less like Master Colin? (Unless I've forgotten what Col looks like in my old age, it's been a while since I've seen him!)

Makinglists · 16/04/2021 20:53

Cutherbert looks like Colins drug addled, faded rockstar twin brother. Only the booze and fags are keeping him together now.😁

DobbyTheHouseElk · 16/04/2021 20:56

Colin has a white chocolate face.

His stories are getting increasingly repetitive and boring. Only the new people he latches on to can be bothered to listen to them. He tells everybody that he once had Caprice.
Kaptain · 16/04/2021 20:59

The bar staff roll their eyes when he walks in. Who will he try and sponge off tonight?

Oblomov21 · 16/04/2021 20:59

Have Aldi actually got away with it yet? I thought M&S had grounds?

Kittytheteapot · 16/04/2021 20:59

We were talking about this over dinner tonight. I'm not much of a buyer of shop cakes, and particularly not special celebration cakes. I have never eaten a Colin or a Cuthbert or any of the other manifestations of said cake. But I want to now! In fact, it struck me I cant be alone in wanting to pop my caterpillar cake cherry and surely all the supermarkets are going to be cashing in on this story. So......which caterpillar would anyone recommend? One thing is sure, please, not one with that awful fake tasting icing on the outside Please!

OhWhyNot · 16/04/2021 21:01

Maybe Cuthbert should start to self identify as Colin

That would surely be allowed

Colin. He's the boss caterpillar, the others are all inferior in one or more ways. I have tried them all over the years so others don't have to.

Cuthbert is genuinely crap cake.

the80sweregreat · 16/04/2021 21:04

Aldi should have just made a kids butterfly cake and called it ' Colins journey is complete'

SisterAgatha · 16/04/2021 21:06

I have to admit I usually buy a Curly. His little orange bastard face always pissed me off though. I’m upgrading.

OP posts:
Kaptain · 16/04/2021 21:10

Curly is the povo cousin who tries to pull girls by saying he's thisclose with Cuthbert.

The girls have never heard of Cuthbert.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 16/04/2021 21:16

Kitty Colin won’t let you down. He is a massive chocolate bar with a small amount of cake inside. Ganache and hard chocolate. His boots are particularly delicious. Solid white chocolate.

Ilikeviognier · 16/04/2021 21:20

The Telegraph have produced a story where someone compares the various caterpillars to see which tasted the best.

I too don’t get why the Aldi version is prosecution-worthy but the other version are not?Hmm

Ilikeviognier · 16/04/2021 21:21

“versions”

Staffy1 · 16/04/2021 21:22

Why are M&S so pissed off at Aldi's? I'm sure Tesco's or Sainsbury's, or both, have a similar caterpillar.

PicsInRed · 16/04/2021 21:23

Oh please can they do this 🤣🤣🤣
DobbyTheHouseElk · 16/04/2021 21:30

M&S have sweets called “colins a butterfly now” or they did.

UthredofBattenberg · 16/04/2021 21:32

I dont get why M&S are all upset about Aldis version. Tesco, Sainsburys, Asda and Coop versions (among others) aren't a problem.

Seriously, why is Aldi being singled out for legal action?
