AIBU to watch some of the mummy vloggers and be grateful for my life rather than aspiring to theirs...

Emily Norris spoke with quite an Essex accent, three years later she sounds Canadian even though she has lived in Essex all that time. And don’t get me started on the way she mops the floor with bare feet and the soles are filthy. Conversely, how she stands on her kids’ beds in her slippers, that she has worn outdoors, to make them. Why? This is supposed to be aspirational?

Lucy Jessica Carter comes across really odd. It’s like she’s reading from a really bad script. And thinks she is brilliant at styling and interiors but... well...

James and Carys are going to be insufferable now they have had a baby. James is so patronising and comes across as controlling. And the pair of them are so spoilt.

The Saccone-Jolys... where do I start?

I know I’m supporting them when I watch them but I love to watch and cringe! Guilty pleasure.

I have no idea who any of these people are, but YANBU for being grateful for your own life rather than the staged show people put on for social media.

MakingPlans21 · 14/04/2021 20:47

I didn’t know who they were until the first lockdown. Browsing YouTube did me no favours 🤣

But it's rather a cringe that you watch and cringe. Don't you see?

MakingPlans21 · 14/04/2021 20:49

I clearly have no shame! ;)

I love Emily Norris, she’s my secret girl crush 😂🤣, I don’t aspire to be like any of the people on you tube but I do enjoy a good life hack or meal prep idea.

IrishMumInLondon2020 · 14/04/2021 20:53

Yes. There is one particular mum on Instagram who documents it all: relationship break up, the works. The kids are forever ok her stories and it just baffles me. Making money from your kids like that is wrong IMO.

whatswithtodaytoday · 14/04/2021 20:54

I only know the Saccone-Jolys, who I used to watch when I was going through a bad patch. I couldn't stand anything about them and realised watching people I dislike does not make me feel good. It's like the Daily Mail sidebar of shame - you don't know why you're looking, but it's weirdly addictive and then you've wasted half an hour and feel like shit.

If they don't make you happy don't watch them.

lazylinguist · 14/04/2021 20:54

Grateful not to be standing on a bed in slippers? Oh the horror! I haven't a clue who any of those people are, but presumably the whole point of that kind of fake lifestyle stuff is for people to vacuously coo over the stuff they covet and feel smug and superior about the things they think are inferior to their own lives. YABU to think any of it is real, so there's zero point in comparing it positively or negatively with your real life!

Sleepisoverrated150 · 14/04/2021 20:55

@IrishMumInLondon2020 yes I agree, Stacey Dooley did a sleepover thing with the saccole joleys or however it’s spelt. It was quite interesting that they didn’t see it as selling their children

MakingPlans21 · 14/04/2021 20:55

@Sleepisoverrated150 why? Help me understand! Of all the girl crushes! Even the fact she calls them life ‘hacks’. Please! They are so basic. And her meal preps are not the most appetising.

meadowbreeze · 14/04/2021 20:55

I don't think you're AIBU. I am only familiar with the Saccone Joly's and they seem fed up of it all. I only click on the videos once in a while and they're always long and boring. Like watching an annoying family update.
With all of these, UK and otherwise, I am really concerned what these kids will turn out like. It rubs me up the wrong way how they're milking Eduardo's dress wearing for views on TikTok. Idk, strange world.

Miltonma · 14/04/2021 20:55

What a bitchy post. Think you envy their status more than you'd care to admit.

ouch
MakingPlans21 · 14/04/2021 20:57

@lazylinguist such an odd response. Some of it is real cos they are vlogging their lives. Yes, much is edited out, yes, much is played up for the cameras, but it is not 100% fiction.

OP posts:
meadowbreeze · 14/04/2021 20:57

Sorry I meant it feels like watching an annoying facetime call not a family update.
This gathered nest is my guilty pleasure. Sweet family.

MakingPlans21 · 14/04/2021 20:58

@Miltonma nah, I have achieved status in my profession without selling my kids’ lives. I’m good, thanks.

OP posts:
meadowbreeze · 14/04/2021 20:58

@miltonma what would OP be jealous of? They're hardly world famous or multi millionaires. A lot of the family vlog income is a very fragile stream, especially with tightening restrictions on as revenue.

MakingPlans21 · 14/04/2021 20:59

@meadowbreeze I hadn’t heard of that one. Will watch at some point.

Sleepisoverrated150 · 14/04/2021 21:00

@MakingPlans21 she just seems like a really nice mum and quite genuine. I feel quite positive and upbeat after watching her. It’s easy watching.

Some of the hacks are basic but some I didn’t know and yeah I’m not the biggest fan of the meal preps as I’m a fussy eater but it did give me some inspiration. I found I was getting in the same rut with food and watching / Googling a few ideas helped get the creative juices flowing.

Bluebird2021 · 14/04/2021 21:01

i love watching some of them....cringe a lot for them but mainly quite like them

Inghams (i know!)
Kerry Conway
Mrs Meldrum...instagram,no longer youtube
Charlotte Louise Taylor.....like her, she is quite 'real'...recommend her
Claire Witt...really enjoy Claires content

undermycatsthumb · 14/04/2021 21:03

I don't know who any of these people are as I don't really watch vlogs. But YANBU OP, not at all. I can't think what could possibly be aspirational about selling my kids' childhoods online.

There is a mummy vlogger who lives near me; I've never heard anything particularly good about her IRL so looked at her social media out of interest. I cannot see why anyone would aspire to her life. Her husband is normal, her kids are normal, her house is normal, and yet she has to spend her whole life making her kids pose in free clothes/with free toys/kitchen utensils in order to get an income. Ugh.

MakingPlans21 · 14/04/2021 21:03

@Sleepisoverrated150 you’re right it is easy viewing and I fall into the trap! I’m not sure about her parenting skills though. I have sat there open mouthed watched her clean up all her kids toys as they were allowed to run about from activity to activity and do nothing to help. She doesn’t seem to want to say no to them. The presents for celebrations are often OTT (and so am a generous gift giver and thought I spoilt my kids at times)

Sleepisoverrated150 · 14/04/2021 21:04

@Bluebird2021 I love Charlotte Taylor too! I feel like we would be friends in really life 😂🤣 I’m starting to sound like a weird stalker...also another issue I guess if having your life online 😬

MakingPlans21 · 14/04/2021 21:04

@Sleepisoverrated150 not to dismiss your tastes. Sorry if it came across like that. I’m just so curious about people who watch them cos they are fans. And why.

OP posts:
MakingPlans21 · 14/04/2021 21:05

@Bluebird2021 hadn’t heard of/watched any of those. I’ve shot myself in the foot with this thread. I now have a whole load of new mummy vloggers to waste my time on 🤣
