AIBU to be annoyed by message about washing my car

21summers · 13/04/2021 13:42

Neighbour has sent me a (second) message asking us when we’re going to wash our car. We ignored the first message.

It’s not muddy or dirty. The alloys are still silver. It’s just dusty because car washes have been closed for months. They’re good neighbours otherwise. AIBU to be irritated and to think I can decide when I want to wash my own car that’s doing nothing to them except sitting outside on the public road (and it’s not parked in front of their house, it’s parked in front of ours).

How bizarre! I really can't work out why they believe it is any of their business!

LeftToRight · 13/04/2021 19:10

Send a message back saying ‘fuck off’.
Only me then?

AlwaysLatte · 13/04/2021 19:11

Ignore it. If they ask in person I'd say cheerfully and with a big smile 'oh I tend not to worry about that too often' and go on your merry way.

AlwaysLatte · 13/04/2021 19:12

(Is she called Hyacinth??)

Skysblue · 13/04/2021 19:19

Haven’t done mine in a year.

Message them back saying “I have no plans to wash it, why do you ask?!”

Unsuremover · 13/04/2021 19:24

Imagine having so little to worry about you monitor when your neighbours wash their car!

WallaceinAnderland · 13/04/2021 19:27

Are they Mr & Mrs Perfect? We have them in our road. The front of their house is immaculate, their balled hedges are perfect spheres, their bins are the first out, perfectly placed, their car is washed weekly and I have to (shamefully) admit I have wondered about their perfect sex life Grin

Boomshakkalakka · 13/04/2021 19:27

your neighbour's probably the same one who has a thread on here complaining about the neighbour a few doors down with a messy garden,
but i'd just be replying - 'probably never, but if you want to do it for me then knock yourself out'

serin · 13/04/2021 19:28

What is wrong with people? that is mental.
One of our neighbours once offerred to show me how to hang my washing out neatly. She must have been hanging over our back fence to even see it, as its quite well hidden from view.
I made sure I dressed the God awful statue of venus, that graces her front lawn, in one of my old bras and a bobble hat the following night

Chocolatehabit · 13/04/2021 19:31

Well they’ve just added another year to the next car wash day, haven’t they! My PIL always ask this and I mentally make a note to leave it at least another month - soooo annoying and rude! My MIL says things like ‘why don’t you get your car washed for my birthday? ‘

Rabblemum · 13/04/2021 19:32

Tell them they are very welcome to wash your car...

These people have way too much time on their hands...

Brownteddybear · 13/04/2021 19:35

@Nats1984

Send a screenshot back of your local weather forecast with a ring around the first episode of rain

3babylady · 13/04/2021 19:36

I'd text back,
When you start to mind your own business, ask a stupid question expect a stupid answer.

How nonsensically rude.

GoToSleepBabyPlease · 13/04/2021 19:38

Ignore. Then, when it rains, head to the motorway and find a lorry to drive behind for ten miles or so.

viques · 13/04/2021 20:01

Tell them not yet because you haven’t quite sold enough tickets yet, but thank them for their interest and ask how many tickets they need as you are expecting high demand

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 13/04/2021 20:02

WTF has it got to do with your neighbours?

Pinkypink · 13/04/2021 20:03

Are they on glue?
(C'mon people! How am I first the poster to ask?)

@Oneeyeopen wins the thread though.
Please do that

TurquoiseDragon · 13/04/2021 20:30

Given those messages, I reckon OP's neighbour would have had a heart attack on seeing the result of living with a giant mumuration of starlings. Biggest group I've ever seen, roosting near Dad. All the cars looked awful, covered in masses of bird shit. Some people were keeping their cars under covers. They've moved on now, thank goodness.

HeartsAndClubs · 13/04/2021 20:40

Is it possible they’re about to put the house on the market and think that a dirty car will mess up their photo’s/put viewers off?

When i moved in here I had vile neighbours on one side, I mean really vile, abusive people esp the woman. She was waiting for me one day when I came back from the school run and gave me a mouthful of abuse. I switched my phone on to record and after she’d finished I told her I had recorded everything and would be contacting the police. She ran screaming into her house and never spoke to me again.

So imagine my surprise when the daughter came round one day and asked if they could cut my grass as they were getting someone in to cut theirs. I was a bit baffled but said yeah why not.

Then a couple of days later I bumped into an estate agent bringing round some viewers and the penny dropped.

The people who live there now are lovely. Turns out these neighbours left the house in such a state and lied about so many of the details that neighbour ended up taking legal action against them. They settled out of court....

numberoneson · 13/04/2021 20:49
I had my car washed once. Just before my child was born. For some reason, I wanted her to come home in a valeted car. And then the dog jumped THROUGH the window and millions and millions of pieces of broken glass shattered all over the inside. And I had a little breakdown.

I've never bothered since.

I wish all I had to worry about was the dust on my neighbour's car.

I'm so angry on your behalf. I'd clean it all really nice and then buy these stickers for the windows. www.etsy.com/fr/listing/799456314/feuille-dautocollant-de-vulve-6x4-vullva?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=vagina+stickers&ref=sr_gallery-1-31&from_market_listing_grid_organic=1&frs=1&sca=1
Hope the dog was ok .... and those stickers would have been just absolutely wonderful for the OP to put on her car. Pity they're sold out! Did you buy the last lot? Grin

AdoraBell · 13/04/2021 20:50

I would respond say no idea and ask why they need to know?

21summers · 13/04/2021 20:55

Exactly @Chocolatehabit
Now they’ll be lucky if we clean it before Covid clears - globally. Especially if I get a third reminder/ask.

My neighbour does his EVERY weekend., my other neighbour has theirs valeted every 6 weeks, it must cost a bomb!
Mind you they power wash their drives every spring.

Literally.. LIFE IS TOO SHORT!

PatrickBatemann · 13/04/2021 21:08

Me too
21summers · 13/04/2021 21:09

No @HeartsAndClubs they’ve no plans to sell. And the car isn’t dirty/muddy or covered in any bird poo. I’d like to think I’m reasonably aware enough to realise if the car is a filthy embarrassment but it’s hardly been used in lockdown.

If they approached us and explained that was the case or some other reasonable reason - then of course we’d accommodate them - it’s the entitled and sarcastic blunt one liners that annoy.
