Frames above babies bed. Learn from my mistakes

When my mum pointed out maybe I shouldn't have frames above my babies cot I just thought of all the Instagram nursery inspo pictures I'd seen and thought that she was being irrational. She wasn't, at some point last night/this morning my toddler either pulled down a print, or it fell down. We woke up this morning to screaming from the baby monitor, pulled the covers back to find broken glass everywhere, the frame and blood on the mattress Sad Cuts to 4 fingers on one hand, 2 on the other, the palms of the hands, cheeks, belly. I've cried all day, been to A&E, we're home now and I'm feeling like the worst mum in the world. Please learn from my mistakes, it could of been so much worse Sad

@ivfbeenbusy

A few Harsh lessons to learn there OP and for everyone I should think

1- sometimes our mothers do know best

2 - you shouldn't live your life through Instagram

3 - wall stickers are the way forward

(I've not long decorated my twins nursery - so many nice things to hang above cots but discounted it straight away.....)

To be fair to *@Isadora2007* whilst this was an awful accident it was a preventable one but I'm sure the OP doesn't need anyone to tell Her that

Did you read PP's post about her baby nearly choking to death on a fallen wall sticker?

Sending you Flowers OP. It’s horrible when they’re hurt. Don’t beat yourself up.

I've always thought this when I see lots of glass frames / wall hangings on Instagram.

I'm not saying you do this op but most of the items in babies room on Instagram are just for show / to look good in the photos and not practical at all.

I hope your baby is ok x

I get what your saying:

Freak accident - happens unexpectedly there is no way you could have predicted it / nothing you could have done

Accident - something you didn't intend to happen but something you did could have contributed even if you didn't mean it too

Exactly.

No way anyone on the Internet (or their mum) can issue warnings to help you avoid a freak accident.

At least it wasn’t more serious but when your mum mentioned it she wasn’t being paranoid and it is a stupid thing to hang over a cot. I cringe when I see it online.

I won't have anyhting above the bed or the sofa. I'd be too worries about things coming down.

However, don't beat yourself up. Stuff happens and you need to just learn form them. Main thing is that everyone is fine.

I can never believe it when people hang bunting above their baby's cot!

it's a baby, not a spider!

When my eldest was 1 I popped to the loo, he managed to make his way into the lychee, open the recycling and cut his finger badly on a can!

Thank you for sharing, you’ve probably spared another baby! And yours will be just fine. Don’t beat yourself up! X

@winifredwells Well if that bunting falls into the cot and the baby or child manages to get it wrapped round their neck, it'll be a dead baby/child!

Maybe use this as an opportunity to baby proof the house.

I am all for being cautious, but frankly, unless you use blue tack, you can fix bunting safely and it won't move until you really yank it!

If you feel safer, of course don't put anything, but if you can be trusted for assembling a cot safely, you should be able to hang a light item safely too.

Frames and shelves are different, most are not that secure.

Why would you even take the risk? Put it at the other side of the room if you must but right above the cot...I wouldn't.
