I loved a good roast dinner, nothing could beat it... until morning sickness meant I threw one up over Christmas and now I can't so much as look at one!

What's your once beloved food that now makes you want to heave?

When I was a student I loved chicken and mushroom pot noodles. It was my rare guilty pleasure as an adult when DH was working late and the DC had gone to bed. Until one day on a local town facebook group two "gentlemen" were having a disagreement regarding the opening hours of a shop and Mr A commented that he would go to Mr Bs house, rip his splein out and beat him to death with it and it would take Mr Bs mum years to get the smell of chicken and mushroom pot noodle out of the rug afterwards. That was about 10 years ago and I havnt eaten one since.

Haberdasheryhen · 12/04/2021 00:14

I used to love smoked salmon until my DH served me a very thick slice in a sandwich and I couldn't chew it, and all of a sudden I didn't like the texture and had to spit it out discreetly. And since then I haven't been able to eat it at all. I now don't even like the smell of it in my hands when slicing it for other people.

Also, I used to love it, but I am much less keen on fish post menopause. No idea if this is a 'thing' or not. I know my sense of smell has increased though; similar to when I was pregnant.

User1000005 · 12/04/2021 00:15

Chicken and sweet corn sandwich’s. I saw a dogs poo with bits of sweetcorn in and haven’t been able to eat them since

Creamcrackersandricecakes · 12/04/2021 00:15

Ouzo, that filthy drink!!! Bought a bottle of it for the equivalent of about 60p in an Athens supermarket when I was 15 and on a school Greek trip. Shared it with my friend - my god, I've never known sickness like it. Absolutely vile stuff. To this day, 32 years later, I cannot touch anything with aniseed or liquorice flavouring, even the smell of a bottle of Pernod being opened can turn my stomach over.
Just to add insult to injury, we got caught by a teacher and suspended for three days when we got back - my parents were not exactly delighted...

moochingtothepub · 12/04/2021 00:16

Bloody covid has permanently changed my taste buds (a year ago so really doubt things will change) root vegetables now taste chemically, have to drown in gravy to eat, this means previous favourites like a Cornish pasty taste horrible (contains swede),

Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 12/04/2021 00:17

Cauliflower cheese, when I was a child. I threw up. Put me off Cauliflower, but not the cheese sauce. 40 odd years.

Bythemillpond · 12/04/2021 00:20

Cherries due to morning sickness which turned into all day sickness that lasted 6 months.
I ate a bag of cherries and then threw the lot up. They came out all lumpy and acidic and I now can’t face them

StylishMummy · 12/04/2021 00:21

Any fast food burger and chips

I had a Burger King in an airport on the way to Rome with DH who id only been with a few months. Within 3 hours of arriving in Rome I had explosive diarrhoea and sickness, 2 of 4 days spent in a hotel room eating Ritz crackers Confused

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 12/04/2021 00:28

I cannot stand salad, especially tomatoes, in sandwiches or on burgers etc. It's fine on its own.

^^
I’ve always felt like this about salad in sandwiches or burgers. It’s just wrong! So slimey.

Had the same as many with coffee. Used to love it but gave it up for lent one year, and never got to like it again.

Another one is the smell of cumin. I’ve been on public transport so often when young men have clearly eaten something cumin rich the night before and not washed, it now smells of BO to me.

Passthesauce · 12/04/2021 00:28

Tartare sauce. I had a very vivid dream as a child where I was being kept in a tower and there was nothing to eat except tartare sauce. But then I'd eat so much due to hunger that I was sick.

Absolutely idea what that dream was about or where it came from (although the tower was from an illustration in a book I'd been reading). But very grateful it wasn't a recurrent one!

FrankButchersDickieBow · 12/04/2021 00:28

Eggs. Used to have them daily. Boiled, omelette, even a fried egg.

I can eat them in stuff, cakes, yorkshire puddings etc., but if my husband cooks them for instance, the smell makes me actually heave.

Dd is the exactly the same.

If dh cooks them, we have to shut the door to the dining room and he is banished to eat them and stay in there until he has got rid of the smell.

MrsAvocet · 12/04/2021 00:31

Southern Comfort and ouzo ( not together!)
Both because for the typical reason - youthful indiscretion! I feel nauseous if I even see a Southern Comfort advert, and the incident was about 30 years ago!

80sMum · 12/04/2021 00:35

Beef. I used to enjoy steak, braised beef and burgers. But the outbreak of mad cow disease and the subsequent clusters of new variant CJD put me off. I haven't eaten it for about 25 years.
Also, bacon sandwiches. I used to love them. But then the World cancer research fund published their findings and advised everyone not to eat processed meat because it is carcinogenic and can cause bowel cancer. My dad died of bowel cancer and the warning from WCRF was enough to stop me from eating bacon, ham, pepperoni, sausages, chorizo and other processed meats for good. I haven't eaten them for over 10 years now. Ditto lamb and pork.

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 12/04/2021 00:46

Curry from my favourite Indian restaurant. Then I got gastroenteritis the next day (unrelated to curry) and that's what I threw up - turns out regurgitated Jalfrezi is painful on your oesophagus and tastes horrific 😭 never had a curry since

IncorrigibleTitmouse · 12/04/2021 00:54

Puy lentils. I made a lovely Rick Stein recipe for me and a friend. We then chased it with two and a half bottles of champagne and it was ruined forever having been seen in reverse at 2 in the morning.

That was my 29th birthday, and I think the last time I have ever been that drunk or had such a severe hangover. It was also when I learned that time takes away your ability to bounce back after a heavy night!

MadCattery · 12/04/2021 01:25

Andes mint chocolates. Someone told me they kind of taste like when you throw up a little in the back of your throat. Next one I ate, I could definitely tell that was true. Can’t stand the taste of them now.

merrymelody · 12/04/2021 01:27

Earl Grey tea. Just the thought of drinking it turns my stomach.

RagzReturnsRebooted · 12/04/2021 01:29

Halloumi. Loved it grilled or fried. Ate some once that was off, can't eat it now. Have tried several times but makes me feel sick. So very Sad

Freyaismyname · 12/04/2021 01:31

The cheap fake crab sticks. When I was dieting I ate them by the pack load.
I can't stand them now.

BluePeterVag · 12/04/2021 01:32

Broccoli, also since discovering they can hide tiny caterpillars. Saw them once curled up under the florets 🤮

Cottage cheese - since a work colleague told me is looks exactly like thrush.

Cod - worms.

Sausages. Had an undercooked one once from a breakfast at MCR airport and was sick for days. Passed out while being sick. Never ever again.

CupoTeap · 12/04/2021 06:32

Why did I start watching this Confused

Hollyhocksarenotmessy · 12/04/2021 06:42

@alibongo5

Jersey Royals. When I was a kid they were absolutely gorgeous and melted in the mouth. Now they're nothing like the same and I've given up buying them.

Same is true for tomatoes and strawberries too - supermarket ones anyway, all tasteless compared to home grown ones or those bought in the past.

DP and I were bewailing the loss of proper flaky-skinned flavourful Jersey royals last night. They are rubbish now.

We are growing our own potatoes this year so fingers crossed.

Bluesheep8 · 12/04/2021 06:56

@Thelema72

Sandwich Spread..used to love it until someone on here called it pickled vomit, never eaten it since

Noooooo! Not sandwich spread, I can't unread this!! Shock

Anonapuss · 12/04/2021 07:26

I'm another one given food poisoning by Burger King aged around 10 and havent eaten a beef burger since. For the same reason, i cant eat mayo either.

Scampi too, has 2 incidents of gritty scampi, put me off for life.

Same as a other PPs was force fed cornflakes as a child, and the smell as always made me heave since. But love special K Grin

aliensprig · 12/04/2021 07:43

Watched Earthlings on youtube in 2018 and haven't eaten meat since, horrifying
