I loved a good roast dinner, nothing could beat it... until morning sickness meant I threw one up over Christmas and now I can't so much as look at one!

What's your once beloved food that now makes you want to heave?

@Justajot

Pate. I read the nutritional information on it. I'm not particularly into healthy eating, but I couldn't get over the % fat.
Try Waitrose reduced fat pate. It's delicious.
tillytoodles1 · 11/04/2021 20:05

Tuna. My niece was having a birthday party and I was making tuna/mayo sandwiches. The cat stole one and ate half if it, then threw it up all up on the other half that was still on the floor. That was about fifteen years ago and I still can't eat tuna.

Cowbells · 11/04/2021 20:05

Almost to the day I turned 40, red wine started tasting like poison. I just hated it. Then 10 years later, one Christmas, I could suddenly drink it again, as if the poison warning sign had been turned off. Very strange.

Jent13c · 11/04/2021 20:06

I read that isotonic sports lucozade was excellent at rehydration during labour so took in 2 bottles. During labour had a nice dose of morphine and realised I was v thirsty so downed a full bottle and then instantly threw it all up all over me, my hair, the bed. Wasn't safe to shower as too out of it so had to smell rancid overly sweet lucozade for a good 24 hours until I was able to wash. Couldn't even look at it now.

cashoncollection · 11/04/2021 20:08

Cherry bakewells. Once got ill not long after eating one when I was 16 and havent had one since.

Same as above for gin, blergh. It now tastes like that time I thought I might die from norovirus.

Scampi. Went off it when pregnant and haven't had it since.

Cheesecake. Someone once told me it's loved by rats as it's the perfect combination of fat and sugar and I've never looked at it the same since.

CaviarAndCigarettes · 11/04/2021 20:08

@thenightsky I've never loved coffee but I agree that roasted coffee beans smell like an ashtray

cashoncollection · 11/04/2021 20:10

Tuna. Once saw a picture of a little parasite critter in a can and now I just can't.

Lucozade. I'd heard it was good for labour so I bought loads (expecting to be at it for days) and I had such a fast and traumatic labour I can't look at the bottles with Anthony Joshua on in the same way again.

ToffeeNotCoffee · 11/04/2021 20:11

Branston pickle. I used to love a cheese and pickle sandwich. It just tastes like vinegar with blocks of wood in it. Where's the rich tasty tang ?

I used to love Cream of tomato soup. It's to rich for me now. I accept I just grew out of it.

Bread - how odd. it gives me indigestion. Still love it but darent' eat it.

Sweet peppers/capsicums. I like them but I had some in a salad that I made and promptly threw them up along with the lunch I'd just eaten. I think I just had too many for my stomach to cope with (they are related to deadly nightshade, apparently) so are tomatoes and potatoes and I'm alright with them.

I have to be careful that I cook eggs properly or I can't keep them down, either.

The last two might be because of the menopause. Or not.

beela · 11/04/2021 20:13

Pickled onions. I tried them for the first time when I was about 4 years old. Loved them, ate 2 or 3, promptly threw up. I haven't been able to go anywhere near them ever since. Ew. Even thinking about that incident is making me feel a bit sick.

lljkk · 11/04/2021 20:15

morning sickness meant I couldn't eat yogurt for years... got better & like to have it again, glad to say

DS binged badly on marshmallows, got sick, has refused to consume them for almost 10 years now

When I was a kid I quite liked blue cheese salad dressing but now I'd rather starve then contemplate consuming any. No reason, just went off of all blue cheeses for unknown reason. Still quite like almost any other cheese.

Tangledtresses · 11/04/2021 20:18

Isn't amazing what pregnancy does to us!! I've never eaten hummus since 2005 🤮
I also haven't eaten chocolate since an incident involving magic mushrooms 🍄 yey!

I fucking hate custard too, school harrowing 😩

Apart from that all good 😌

StevieNix · 11/04/2021 20:27

Prawns- got food poisoning a few years ago and I thought I was dying! Can’t touch them since.
Mince beef and onions- my dad used to force me to eat this as a child, I wasn’t allowed to leave the table without eating it all, we had it numerous times a week and it just tasted greasy and grisly/chewy.

thefishthatcouldwish · 11/04/2021 20:28

Not a food as such but I loved sparking water until I threw it up during morning sickness.

Miss it though

AnneElliott · 11/04/2021 20:29

Original Lucozade- I equate it with being ill and can't stand the sight of the stuff. DS is bemused to think you bought it from the chemist!

JaceLancs · 11/04/2021 20:30

Salmon - bone wedged n my throat - I gagged and now can’t eat
Bread - had to go gluten free and the GF options are foul

LicketySplat · 11/04/2021 20:31

Courgette because I grew loads in the garden just before my HG kicked in. DH kept cooking then and the smell was repulsive.

Tomato soup and Madeira cake because they were the last things I had eaten prior to getting a vomiting bug.

Ice cream because I worked in an ice cream shop and at far too much of the stuff. Also, Adam Driver referred to it as "sweet mucous" in Girls.

WhySoSensitive · 11/04/2021 20:32

As a hyperemesis sufferer I’m pretty sure I’ve vomited every possible thing up.

At the minute I can not stand even the thought of eating an egg. I used to love fried eggs and had them on everything. I’m sad.

ghostyslovesheets · 11/04/2021 20:33

most wine - since I had covid :( red is okay but white/rose taste vile - a good dry Cava is about my limit (I have a bloody cupboard full of the stuff) - also diet Pepsi - again since Covid - in fact I can barely drink at all

Oh and cod - after I saw the worms!

Lachimolala · 11/04/2021 20:34

Salad cream and red bull, the former because I violently vomited it back up as a child with norovirus and the latter because my abusive sod of an ex drank it like water and I could always smell it on his breath when he was hurting me. Can’t even smell them anymore without heaving/panicking.

CroutonsAvatar · 11/04/2021 20:36

Oh and chicken dippers! I hadn’t eaten them since I was about 8, then had mad cravings for about a week when pregnant. Can’t look at them without wanting to vom now.

Ilikeviognier · 11/04/2021 20:37

Cheese Doritos. Morning sickness - vomiting. Never again. Sad

LadyPoison · 11/04/2021 20:38

Cranberry juice - I used to love Ocean Spray but now it's all got artificial sweetener in and it's ruined

soughsigh · 11/04/2021 20:42

Fish and chips and Takeaway curry. They were super cheap and I ate too much of them as a student, haven't got over it 10 years later.

megletthesecond · 11/04/2021 20:43

Marmite. Because gluten.

I sniff the jar every so often.

pinkyboots1 · 11/04/2021 20:49

Skips and other prawn crisps... I used to love them but once I was pregnant with my eldest (now 21) I couldn't stand to be near them. The family aren't allowed to eat them near me of kiss me if they've recently eaten them
