Sender didn't pay the full fee

What do you do if you get a card through the post saying you need to pay postage before an item can be delivered?

I got a card through today saying we should go online to pay within 21 days. It is only £1.50 but can't think what this would be and not sure I want to pay without knowing? Not expecting a delivery and if I was I don't think a retailer would do this.

If we don't pay I think it just goes back to sender so they would know they haven't paid enough...

@AccidentallyOnPurpose, perhaps you should RTFT. This wasn’t a text or an email. It was a fee to pay card. Genuine. Not a scaaam and on this occasion your cat is wrong. When you asked him to tell you whether or not it was genuine presumably he said me-ow ??!!

SunshineCake · 12/04/2021 21:58

Don't be daft @LivingDeadGirlUK. The fact that someone just stuck the stamps on themselves means there is a good chance there is insufficient postage, whereas if they pay at the PO of course it would be correct.

Huh? That's what I said...
Cas112 · 13/04/2021 17:21

THE ROYAL MAIL DO SEND THESE CARDS! I do admin for a company and we get a lot of these cards. Go on royal mail website ( the legit website you find on google, not the one on card if you don't trust it) and they should have information on there. You should have a reference number on the card.

SunshineCake · 13/04/2021 17:22

Not really.

Ah, but they DO. I had one a couple of weeks ago, the sender hadn't paid enough postage. It looks legit to me - I went down to the sorting office in person, didn't pay online.
Blindstupid · 13/04/2021 20:48

livingdead ....Huh? That's what I said.... I agree with sunshine ...you really didn’t say that.

mama .... read cas’s message correctly ...

I've no idea what sunshine is on about, I said,

'You don't really get the 'not paid enough' situation these days as someone would have had to stick stamps on a package themselves instead of taking it to the post office to post, but it does still happen sometimes'

She's then called me daft because 'The fact that someone just stuck the stamps on themselves means there is a good chance there is insufficient postage, whereas if they pay at the PO of course it would be correct.'

That's exactly what I said! Back when stamps was all you got it was easy to not put enough postage on and I used to see the cards to pay extra postage all the time. Now hardly ever, but it does still happen.

It's certainly not me that's daft on this thread O_o

rainbowunicorn · 14/04/2021 16:01

@waitingpatientlyforspring

Oh gosh this is a scam! Royal mail put a card through your door if there is postage to pay.
Did you read the OP. SHe clearly says that she got a card through the post asking for her to pay the fee?
rainbowunicorn · 14/04/2021 16:02

@MrsOsM

Its a scam i got the same email earlier, i just ignored it.
The OP clearly states they got a card through the door, nothing about an email?
rainbowunicorn · 14/04/2021 16:09

@Mamamamasaurus the poster you quoted says very clearly that Royal Mail DO send these cards. Then you come and say Ah but they DO as if they had somehow not just said that?

rainbowunicorn · 14/04/2021 16:11

The level of reading and comprehension skills displayed by some on this thread really is quite worrying.

ultrablue · 14/04/2021 16:23

I keep getting the scam emails and texts but just ignore them. Had a grey card through the door, wasn't expecting a parcel, checked it out finding it to be genuine. Not sure how DH paid the excess, possibly credit card ( we only use credit cards for online transactions where possible).

It was a surprise lockdown gift from one of my best friends ❤️❤️

SunshineCake · 14/04/2021 18:07

Maybe just be clearer @LivingDeadGirlUK.

Twinkie01 · 14/04/2021 18:12

It's genuine. I got a text and asked our village postie and he said they'll always put a grey card through your door.

AliceMcK · 14/04/2021 18:12

If it’s a card through the post I doubt it’s a scam.

Happened to me recently. Sent a card, measured and weighed it, well under the standard card price yet the recipient had to pay an extra £1.50 to get it because apparently I didn’t pay enough. I was really pissed off. I would have told them to leave it but I had put birthday money in it.

ginghamstarfish · 14/04/2021 18:22

If you think it's real you can call or visit the sorting office, they should be able to tell you.

LIZS · 21/04/2021 12:46

Wondering what the upshot of this was. Had similar today and dh is expecting hospital correspondence so wonder if this might be it. Postie delivered the card and reference details are on a printed label.

bookworm1632 · 21/04/2021 12:49

@Saz432

It’s not a scam. Go to the Royal Mail website yourself and the “fee to pay” section then just pay it. It can only be a scam if you’re given a dodgy link to use, and it’s £1.50, not asking for large sums of cash.
The amount is irrelevant.

This particularly case ISN'T a scam, but that's because the URL is genuine.

The scam texts also ask for a small fee, but when you pay, they now have your CC details!

LIZS · 23/04/2021 12:31

As an update , underpaid envelope delivered today. an offer of "free" seeds has cost £1.50 extra, Hmm

ElderMillennial · 26/05/2021 13:48

Update - it was genuine.

Something from work and someone thought it would be nice to add a chocolate to the envelope, not realising this pushed up the postage charge so we all had to pay £1.50 for it.

They said we could claim it back but I haven't bothered as it was a charity thing.

Exactly the same thing happened to me, DD scout leader sent a mini Lindt bunny with badges she'd earned over lockdown and didn't pay enough postage!
