What do you do if you get a card through the post saying you need to pay postage before an item can be delivered?

I got a card through today saying we should go online to pay within 21 days. It is only £1.50 but can't think what this would be and not sure I want to pay without knowing? Not expecting a delivery and if I was I don't think a retailer would do this.

If we don't pay I think it just goes back to sender so they would know they haven't paid enough...

I've had a couple of cards from RM lately where people have paid insufficient postage, they have been genuine (but it is pay-a-fee in the web address not feetopay)

Butterflyfluff · 10/04/2021 14:54

It’s not necessarily a scam

I’ve had letters where the sender hadn’t paid the correct fee and this is what happens. Once it was from a business who had posted a whole batch of letters without franking them, so it does happen

If you go to the Royal Mail website (not by using the address on the card), then go to the section where you pay a fee, if when you input the details on the card, it comes up agreeing to the card, then it’s genuine

ElderMillennial · 10/04/2021 14:54

And the other side with details hidden

Sender didn't pay the full fee

It's not a scam if it's a card from royal mail. In the past I've gone to the post depot, asked what it is, and only paid to accept if it was something I wanted!

MiddleClassProblem · 10/04/2021 14:55

Go to the Royal Mail site and find the page that way to make sure it’s not a scam but this is a genuine thing that happens. FIL sent DD some chocolate buttons in the post and we had a card through the door to pay.

Unmellowbirds · 10/04/2021 14:55

That looks legit to me - very like the ones we've had.

Dangleclack · 10/04/2021 14:55

It's just a fee to pay insufficient postage paid by the sender of a letter/large letter.
If you aren't expecting anything just ignore. If it's important they'll send it again hopefully with the correct postage. Unless curiosity gets the better of you of course 😁

normalsaline · 10/04/2021 14:55

that’s not a scam

pophop · 10/04/2021 14:56

That's a genuine card

bloodywhitecat · 10/04/2021 14:56

From Royal Mail

It could be something good Grin

That's not a scam.

MrsClatterbuck · 10/04/2021 14:59

I had something like this at Christmas but it was genuine. I received a card through the letterbox. I paid it online and then received my parcel. Wish I had kept it as I think it did say who it was from as the sender had put their details on the parcel. Also I was expecting a parcel. The parcel was from abroad and the amount to be paid of £17 approx was due to some sort of duty or tax.

BillyIsMyBunny · 10/04/2021 15:04

That looks legit. For the sake of £1.50 I would pay just out of curiosity but would prepare to potentially be disappointed!

BrilliantBetty · 10/04/2021 15:04

Had a card through recently, it wasn't a scam because I saw the post lady putting it through with our post.

Sender had put a 'large' stamp but actually it should have been weighed as contained a small ornament.

CharlotteUnaNatalieThompson · 10/04/2021 15:07

That's genuine (to the op having seen the card, sure others are scams). I've had the same a couple of times, once was something sent from my sister in NZ and postage incorrect. Other time it was a massive catalogue I didn't want, but I paid both but going into the sorting office and paid for the first and declined the second when it was obviously something I didn't want

Bargebill19 · 10/04/2021 15:08

I paid by cash at post office counters. Nice post office man confirmed it was genuine and dealt with it for me. Turned out someone had bought me a gift from a third party, who didn’t put enough postage on the packet.

Texts/emails are all scams.

Tinydinosaur · 10/04/2021 15:09

royalmail.com/feetopay

Definitely legit address. You should be able to go to the sorting office I think, I did when I got one.

Joinedjustforthispost · 10/04/2021 15:11

Just go to your local sorting office or post office, we got a card for unpaid postage and I travelled in to town and paid at the office, I’d not risk giving them your debit card details online unless it’s confirmed legit off the post office

gamerchick · 10/04/2021 15:16

Just go to your sorting office and pay there.

I went to the sorting office once, paid my 1.50 and was given an unsolicited survey in an envelope Biscuit curiosity kills the cat.

DogsSausages · 10/04/2021 15:17

Is there no reference number. I would go to the sorting office.

dancingindungarees · 10/04/2021 15:20

I got one a few days ago, arrived today a magazine from Church not impressed. If you live in Northern Ireland and have connection to a church almost on the rocks /beach don't bother Angry

TheWaif · 10/04/2021 15:22

Do you have Facebook? This happened to me once and I posted on there asking if anyone had sent me anything to find out.

Redglitter · 10/04/2021 15:24

Thats genuine. I've had that before when an ebay seller didn't pay enough. The scam ones are texts/emails.

As pp said, go to the Royal Mail site and navigate to the pay a fee page from the menu if you're concerned
