Literally having one of those days. Talk talk is down in my area so I'm ploughing through mobile data. But literally EVERYTHING I'm trying to order is out of stock and it's driving me mad! I'm trying to find garden furniture, a bin store, a new rug, clothes for my daughter - it goes on and on!!

Just ranting!!!!!

I'm curious though in relation to the items that the previous poster is looking to order from Argos - have you tried to find them on the Argos.ie website? I'd genuinely be very interested to find out if they are available in Ireland but not in the UK.

No

RedToothBrush · 09/04/2021 20:34

@thebillyotea

For all the Brexit deniers...

If I order something for mainland Europe, it is in stock.
Same thing for here: out of stock, or refused to deliver.

Pretty sure shipments don't shortcut via the Suez Canal to cross the Channel...

TBF travel restrictions for haulage to the uk are complicated by covid. Brexit definitely is contributing but its too easy to blame everything on it at the moment

The dust will settle in time but I think we will have a shock on Monday with shelves being emptier than we expect in shops.

XingMing · 09/04/2021 20:35

I wouldn't buy garden furniture made in Indonesia, because there are lots of people to buy it from around here. And I would rather buy local, spending my cash in the area than from B&Q. Because spending it here means that money earned also gets spent nearby on a few plants from the garden centre and then spent again in the pub for a pint which keeps a young lass in work pulling pints. If we want local prosperity, all of us need to pull together to spend and support local enterprise. Dogfood, veggies, clothing... buy local.

Thehop · 09/04/2021 20:36

@Luckyelephant1 george at Asda website have a nice egg chair in stock

Giantrooster · 09/04/2021 20:36

@LeuvenMan

As a man, married to a "crazy cat lady" and proud owner of a 15 year old rescue cat, I feel your pain. Whiskas Meat in Gravy out of stock, which is said cats favourite food. This is an issue for all 3 of us, in different ways Sad

And everyone with cat food problems.

Isn't it possible to order via Zooplus?

jasjas1973 · 09/04/2021 20:36

@XingMing

MrsGeneHunt, buy local regularly. My dog's food has never been oos. The answer/cure for pandemic supply issues is BUY LOCAL.
Can you point me to locally sourced bicycle parts? or chainsaws, strimmers and mowers? even 2nd cars are in short supply

66m people cannot buy local, even when we were far less we couldn't.

Some of this is CV (cars) but mostly Brexit, as i didn't have these supply issues last year & even when i can get the stuff, its twice as expensive....

But all this pales into insignificance against that Tesco no longer seem able to get their own chocolate spread.

ballsdeep · 09/04/2021 20:36

@Luckyelephant1

I just want an outdoor egg chair but there are NONE
Me too! I went to b and m today . Nothing there apart from a rattan garden set with three cushions missing
Thehop · 09/04/2021 20:37

I bought a load of wholesale garden furniture last year to sell on.

The brexit effect has doubled the cost this year, it’s due to import duties being through the roof.

XingMing · 09/04/2021 20:40

@jasjas1973, there are bike dealers and fixers at Gulworthy, Tavistock and Saltash.

jasjas1973 · 09/04/2021 20:41

@XingMing prob with buying local is it isn't always... went to get some locally produced stuff recently... turned all he did was import it, repackaged.
Same with some garden furniture... imported from Holland.

But yes where possible and competitively priced.

Postdatedpandemic · 09/04/2021 20:41

Local dog food...aka...squirrel?

XingMing · 09/04/2021 20:43

XingDog loves a squirrel...

Anoisagusaris · 09/04/2021 20:43

I’m in Ireland and everything is out of stock online here too. Pain in the butt.

CharlotteRose90 · 09/04/2021 20:46

It’s horrible. I went on 3 supermarket runs this week all different times and there was no milk, ham or bread in each one. Also tried to order stuff from Matalan, new look and Argos and nothing available. Guess when the uk voted freedom we got lumbered with all the bad stuff too 😂😂

Anoisagusaris · 09/04/2021 20:47

Supermarket stuff is fine though.

Travelledtheworld · 09/04/2021 20:47

@jasjas1973 there has been a shortage of second hand cars outside the main dealerships for a couple of years now as people don't buy and sell cars, they mainly lease them.
So my local garage tell me...

jasjas1973 · 09/04/2021 20:48
@jasjas1973, there are bike dealers and fixers at Gulworthy, Tavistock and Saltash.
All they do is offer a repair service or are dealers, we know them all.

No one produces wheels, gears, tyres, groupsets or frames... its all from Europe, Asia or the 'states, even if you find a wheel builder, its built from non uk parts, spokes from europe, hubs from japan/US, rims from Asia.

We needed a zipp 120mm stem (us company) in Germany its £70, in the UK its £100 to £120 but none available, Germany has loads but no one ships to the UK anymore.

Shimano Ultegra groupset, last December £600, now over £900 BUT nothing is fully available, Certinis shop in saltash looks like its been robbed.

These are all brexit related 'cause last year there were few if any issues.

yourfaceisaforeignfood · 09/04/2021 20:48

This is covid related and is happening all around the world. Supply chains have been utterly disrupted and the danger of relying on cheap overseas manufacture ruthlessly exposed. (Brexit might have exacerbated it perhaps but it’s a world wide problem).

Anoisagusaris · 09/04/2021 20:49

@CharlotteRose90 is milk, bread and ham not produced in Britain though? Why would Brexit affect products like that?

jasjas1973 · 09/04/2021 20:50

Why wasn't it such an issue last year then?
jasjas1973 · 09/04/2021 20:50

...and why are things available in eu but not uk? even worse in NI.

Marshasthorn · 09/04/2021 20:51

@LemonRoses

It’s what people voted for, sadly.
Biscuit

Get your facts straight. It’s not brexit.

I work within fulfilment and shipping.

Brexit didn’t affect shipping . Though the pandemic and lockdowns caused disruption and delays to shipping and delivery overall by 4 weeks.

In the last 8 weeks a delay in shipments has slowly but surely built up.

All main couriers are being affected. Brexit happened a while ago.

Don’t spew crap out when you don’t know shit about the industry. Biscuit

Not even the couriers are blaming Brexit. I can’t understand why someone who likely doesn’t work within this world is blaming Brexit.

Here’s another Biscuit

Enjoy.

mm40 · 09/04/2021 20:52

Well..... it’s hardly Russia in the 1980’s is it, with you needing 2wheelbarrows full of roubles for a loaf of bread?

There are plenty of UK made products for sale as ranging from shoes and clothing to toasters and washing machines and carpets and TV’s. Perhaps the problem is that we’ve got used to importing stuff that we could actually buy that had been created/grown here.

XingMing · 09/04/2021 20:52

My DM, in the Midlands, saw good garden funiture for her tiny backyard, and asked and it turned out to be made a mile from me. But no one bought it, then, because it was cheaper to buy stuff made in China. So now it isn't and we (all) have to get used to the idea again that we buy local. I hate to keep banging on the point but if you don't spend your money, when the goods you want are available and made close to you, please buy those instead of stuff made in Asia.

Marshasthorn · 09/04/2021 20:54

Customs are also facing a problem that they can’t explain themselves

A massive back log of work has been created simply because of lockdowns.
