Literally having one of those days. Talk talk is down in my area so I'm ploughing through mobile data. But literally EVERYTHING I'm trying to order is out of stock and it's driving me mad! I'm trying to find garden furniture, a bin store, a new rug, clothes for my daughter - it goes on and on!!

Just ranting!!!!!

The problem.i have had for months is getting bigger sizes of boys school trousers. Sainsbury's has been out of stock for months as the last time I saw any was during the last 25% off.

Thank God for second hand and hand me downs.

Nat6999 · 09/04/2021 22:36

I've been looking at appliances at AO.com & nearly every one I liked is out of stock. Also looking for an Xbox series X & places say they have had stock but never see any available, I check midnight, 9.00am, 12.00pm, 4.00pm every day. I needed a new tablet a couple of weeks ago, ended up going direct to Samsung. Argos AO.com, John Lewis were all out of stock.

Dongdingdong · 09/04/2021 22:37

Yes we are waiting three months for a dishwasher.

Yay Brexit

@Horehound I ordered a washing machine the other week - it arrived two days later. There are plenty of dishwashers out there with similar delivery times - sounds like you made a duff choice.

VenusTiger · 09/04/2021 22:39

@SmiledWithTheRisingSun

Yes that's Brexit 🤷‍♀️
No it is not, it's a pandemic! Grow up.
LuluJakey1 · 09/04/2021 22:39

We went to Dobbies this week and they said they are selling garden furniture faster now than they have ever sold it.

Nat6999 · 09/04/2021 22:42

Wilkinson's & B & M both have egg chairs, keep checking their stock.

LuluJakey1 · 09/04/2021 22:49

Haven't had trouble buying anything though.

I have noticed that our cafes doing takeaway stuff through the day have almost doubled their prices. DH and I went for a walk today with DS2 - Ds1 and DD helping MIL with her garden (she must be mad to let DD near it) - We were going to treat ourselves to a picnic type lunch on the seafront. Favourite cafe - frittata slice - was £3.25 now £5.75
Veggie salad bowl was £5.75, now £7.95. Coffee was £2.25, now £3.00. That's about £12 extra for the two of us and £33 overall for an eat out snack in a cardboard box. We didn't bother. Had fish and chips instead. for £13 total.

So I am extremely pro EU BUT this one can't totally be blamed on them. I don't live in the UK & work in a field with heavy reliance on global supply chains are there are a LOT of problems right now:

-factories closed in the far east & locally due to COVID, restrictions, outbreaks, retiring workforce etc.
-global shortages of staple things like aluminium
-HUGE and unexpected demand in new areas (bicycles for example)
-the lorry driving workforce is on average, older and thus both more likely to be affected by COVID AND further compounded by a lot of driving schools closed to due to COVID so now an even bigger shortage of drivers than there already was.
-ditto the above for longshoremen. In the US this is a HUGE issue at ports - ports of LA & Longbeach had dozens of container ships waiting to unload when they would normally have 1-2. Even if you're not in the US, this will have a knock on effect on global supply chains
-containers are in the wrong place all over the world
-the Suez canal was closed for over a week

Even for fast fashion companies, the reality of production means things to be sold in late summer already need to be on the water, dial that backwards 6 months and the magnitude of the problem starts to become appparent.

It is mega frustrating for everyone though (and no one less than the folks trying to sell you things!!).

mustlovegin · 09/04/2021 22:55

I have noticed that our cafes doing takeaway stuff through the day have almost doubled their prices

There have been long queues at takeaway cafes as they have been one of the few places remaining open. Plus maybe trying to recoup some losses.

tiredmum2468 · 09/04/2021 22:58

I've noticed since Argos has become part of Sainsbury's their stock availability is awful and hardly anything is available for home delivery
I think that they either need to go to 100% delivery like amazon and close down the Argos consessions in Sainsbury's - or buck their ideas up

As for Next kids clothing I wish they'd take it off the website if it's sold out!

@Dollygirl2008 I feel your pain xx

justasking111 · 09/04/2021 23:05

The Aldi egg chairs sold out because people bought multiple items of them then put them on E Bay I saw one go for nearly 1k last year, was astonishing. Just checked yep they are on E Bay again for a lot more money.

Anjo2011 · 09/04/2021 23:09

I’m currently having a new kitchen fitted , all of the appliances were ordered in Dec, we have just received all except the dishwasher. Supplier has said it’s all down to factory shutdowns and reduced working hours during covid. It’s not just a UK issue, there’s an all round shortage.

Proudboomer · 09/04/2021 23:12

Wilkos sell woolite for both delicates and dark washes

justasking111 · 09/04/2021 23:13

Talking to a restaurant owner, the price of wholesale food and drink has shot up, he is part of a national restaurant association, the prices in eateries when they open again is going to go up. I said I was not surprised the price of food in supermarkets has gone up no matter where I shop in my neck of the woods.

Proudboomer · 09/04/2021 23:15

Sorry that was for Wbeezer on page 5 looking for detergent for woollens but my quote didn’t work😩

Proudboomer · 09/04/2021 23:17

Aldi egg chair.
Not for store purchases but according to their website coming online soon

masterofthechef · 09/04/2021 23:19

I know it is simplistic but if people don't feed the scalpers on Ebay there wouldn't be people buying up egg chairs at £150 and reselling for £500 upwards

yourfaceisaforeignfood · 09/04/2021 23:21

Prices are going up ( and will probably continue to rise) because of inflationary pressure bought about by the massive QE monetary policy instigated around the world in response to covid. No government can simply print money without there being repercussions.

AColdDuncanGoodhew · 09/04/2021 23:34

Im west of Scotland, checked Argos for garden furniture off the back of this thread all the ones I checked are available at my local Argos and several within 30 mins drive

GaryUnicorn · 09/04/2021 23:53

@Luckyelephant1

I just want an outdoor egg chair but there are NONE
They are uncomfortable. You have to either curl your legs up under you, or if you put them on the ground, you can’t lean against the back of the chair, due to the depth.
Mushypeasandchipstogo · 10/04/2021 00:01

The only thing that I have found out of stock is bloody penguin bollards. Will they ever be available on Amazon?

Timeisavirtue · 10/04/2021 00:07

Had the same problem the first lockdown. We had a hot tub before, tried getting more chemicals and such and every fucker in lockdown had brought a hot tub which meant it was near impossible to buy the stuff I needed to replace.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 10/04/2021 00:26

@Mushypeasandchipstogo I'm curious - why do you need penguin bollards?
is it a parking issue with unruly penguins - is there a diagram?

MagentaGiraffe · 10/04/2021 00:39

@XingMing

MrsGeneHunt, buy local regularly. My dog's food has never been oos. The answer/cure for pandemic supply issues is BUY LOCAL.
Do you realise that the UK doesn't have the capacity to be self-sufficient in food, energy, clothing and many other basic commodities required to meet essential needs e.g. the metal components required to make batteries etc? Your comment is ignorant and ridiculous. Even if everyone in the UK bought local it would not solve the problem. The answer is... drum roll... minimising trade barriers with other nearby trusted trade partners. Oh.... we just left the richest and most successful trade block in history.

Study after study has shown Brexit will cost us WAY more than Covid economically and socially and in terms of power over the long term. I am astonished that there are still Brexiteer diehards around denying it in the face of all of the evidence that they could have read at any time between 2016 and now. Confused

worriedatthemoment · 10/04/2021 07:19

Why are people blaming brexit when jalf the shop the OP has mentioned have not o
Come from the eu , maybe a bog boat beimg stuck could be to blame
Argos have not had stock for most of the last year
