Clean PJ's? Lighthearted

Do your DC wear clean (matching optional) PJs every night?

I'm a little bit ott about it but for me they have to match and must be fresh every night but after another thread about laundry and a discussion with DP apparently I'm weird??

YABU ... You can wear PJs for a few nights (shudder)

YANBU ... clean, fresh, matching PJs every night!

My 2 year old does because he still wears a nappy and I think the trousers get a bit smelly as a result. Older ones wear them for 2-3 days before changing.

Wow!

I think fresh PJs every day is totally unnecessary, especially in non-summer weather.

What about day clothes? For seven children? How often do they get washed, dried, possibly ironed? Or is it only pjs that are an issue? How are they all dried in the winter or cold weather?

My mind has drifted from matching pjs to the practicalities of going out and about with such a huge family although I guess the teenager will be independent....

Sorry, off subject!

Jumpers268 · 09/04/2021 17:10

I don't see how it's like the towels posts. In no way did OP say it was gross to wear the same PJ's more than one night in a row. I didn't read it as goady. There are people who wash their bed sheets daily??!! I read it as amusing as I'm also OTT when it comes to my son's PJ's haha yet not with my own Confused.

PenfoldPenny · 09/04/2021 17:11

Clean pjs every night? No of course not. Every 2 or 3 nights is fine. I shower every 2 or 3 days and "celebrate" with clean pjs on that day.

IntermittentParps · 09/04/2021 17:12

I don't have matching ones; I have some PJ trousers and shorts and wear a cotton vest with them. DP sleeps in the nip.
I change them when I get tired of them or need to, whichever comes first. I tend to 'cook' overnight in bed and often wake up sweaty, so I change them a fair bit.

Jumpers268 · 09/04/2021 17:13

Yeah I did an hour cardio this morning and had a shower after and I felt so ashamed.....

vdbfamily · 09/04/2021 17:30

I actually have no idea how often. My oldest DD does her own laundry, youngest sleeps naked and my son has a variety of kind/ short bottoms that he wears with a random t-shirt. Does not have any matching sets but then he is 6'5 and buying from specialist tall sites is so expensive. He is not bothered with matching at all.

Hannsmum · 09/04/2021 17:36

Yes since they have been born

rabbitheadlights · 09/04/2021 17:46

@Abracadabra12345

I'm not getting into the logistics of drying it will just invite another onslaught.

It's really not about hygiene I have no problem with the kids wearing jeans etc for a few days. I just like them to go to bed clean and fresh.

But yes everything gets ironed including tea towels and underwear! (It's impossible to get unironed vests to fold neatly enough)

OwlinaTree · 09/04/2021 17:54

Do you change the sheets every day as well?

RoseZinfandel · 09/04/2021 17:56

My children get themselves ready for bed.
I think they will only go through a couple of pairs of pyjamas in a week.
I have never even considered the possibility of non-matching pjs though, and I'm sure it wouldn't ever occur to my children to put on a non-matching set either.

PerspicaciousGreen · 09/04/2021 18:11

You iron vests?!?? That's really above and beyond! Only things that get ironed in this house are my husband's shirts, and he does them himself. I have carefully curated a household collection of clothing and linens which look decent without ironing.

gingganggooleywotsit · 09/04/2021 18:20

No my 5 year old will wear them 2 or even 3 times before washing 😄 he has a bath every night though so is always clean before he puts them on. Fine by me!

Tvci5 · 09/04/2021 18:26

Wow 49 sets of PJ's a week! That's a lot of matching up 😀

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 09/04/2021 18:30

Isn't it just. Poor kids must get whiplash from their clothing changes.

ivfbabymomma1 · 09/04/2021 18:31

I put my child in clean matching pjs every night.

LivingMyBestLife2020 · 09/04/2021 18:40

I can’t believe you all sleep in PJs! My mum always told us you must air your bits at night. I always sleep naked as does my toddler ( his choice) but I wear PJs in the evening, change every 3rd day

AlrightTreacle · 09/04/2021 18:41

It seems odd to me. My MIL does this though, and irons EVERYTHING, pants, socks, tea towels. She spend hours on it a day and complains about it, but I think secretly she quite enjoys it. She was a stay at home mum from her early 20s and never went back to work when the kids were older, so think she still sort of sees ironing as part of her job role. She was horrified when I told her I don't iron my pants Grin.

Personally I change my pyjamas every few days (no kids, yet), not bothered about them matching particularly, boyfriend sleeps naked, we both shower morning and evening, and change the sheets once a week.

Thebookswereherfriends · 09/04/2021 18:43

You’ll be horrified to know that my dd doesn’t like flappy/loose clothes, so her ‘pyjamas’ are a pair of leggings and a t shirt! She wears them for a week before we wash them! (She does have a bath every night and wears underwear with them).

ShinyGreenElephant · 09/04/2021 18:45

Younger ones always, dd2 will inevitably get breakfast on hers and because I slather her in excema cream before she puts them on I feel they wouldn't be reusable? Though I'm not sure that's the case. Dd1 is 12 and would wear hers for a week 🤮 but I make her change them every night. Mine have to be clean too because I sometimes leak milk in the night. I'd have clean sheets every night if I could!

missbunnyrabbit · 09/04/2021 18:51

I think you're all mad. I wear my pjs for about three nights before washing. If you wash clothes too much, they will fall apart sooner. Plus, it costs a fortune to keep running the washing machine!

zigaziga · 09/04/2021 18:52

I would call 2 or 3 day old pyjamas clean. I don’t wear a new pair myself every day same as I wouldn’t expect my day clothes to be newly washed.

Treaclepie19 · 09/04/2021 18:53
@jumpers268 I don't know why I do it. But it genuinely puts me on edge not to, DD spilt her milk last week but instead of changing just her top, I had to completely change her PJs. I know it's not rational at all but I can't help it.
This sounds like me and I have quite serious OCD. if it's causing you distress it might be worth looking into?

zigaziga · 09/04/2021 18:55

In the spring summer I have washing on the line about 90% of the time as it is. If we were to unnecessarily wear a different set of pyjamas every set I’d need to fill the whole garden with washing lines.

loveliesbleeding1 · 09/04/2021 19:00

My mind is blown at 63 pairs of pyjamas for a week away. You must take about 20 suitcases!!
