Clean PJ's? Lighthearted

Do your DC wear clean (matching optional) PJs every night?

I'm a little bit ott about it but for me they have to match and must be fresh every night but after another thread about laundry and a discussion with DP apparently I'm weird??

YABU ... You can wear PJs for a few nights (shudder)

YANBU ... clean, fresh, matching PJs every night!

OP has already said she knows it's not rational. I think jumping on her for having 7 children and them wearing clean PJ's every night is really not necessary. Yes, we can all do things to help the environment but that doesn't mean she's not doing other things (as she's already said).

itsgettingwierd · 09/04/2021 10:14

Yes clean every night.

They aren't matching sets though.

When ds was younger I'd buy the mix and match ones and so technically they went together!

Since he was a teen I buy the soft lounge pants ones and the multi buy cheap t shirts from supermarkets (the colours are plain grey/white/navy so match bottoms that way!)

But I also don't wear the same clothes for more than a day. I work in a school and I'm even more strict about this since covid.

Also clean underwear if wore overnight too.

rabbitheadlights · 09/04/2021 10:14

@Aprilx
You would do well to think about meowchick’s and response because they obviously a lot more sense than you

Say what now??

OP posts:
OutComeTheWolves · 09/04/2021 10:16

Wow I'm amazed by these responses. Definitely not a clean pair every night and only matching if they're going to be photographed the next morning ie Christmas Eve or the night before a birthday. Im both dedicated to not making extra work for myself and envious of people who do extra work and therefore look like they have their shit together!

itsgettingwierd · 09/04/2021 10:18

@rabbitheadlights

And next it will be ... You have too many children, you're killing the planet .......
Well predicted Grin

I don't get those that call pyjamas "barely worn".

They are worn for about half the day. Ill often shower and put on PJs after dinner if I'm home and they are worn until the following morning.

I don't wear the same pair of knickers for more than a day so don't get why I'd wear the same pair of PJ bottoms Confused

poshme · 09/04/2021 10:22

OP how do you get all your laundry dry in the winter?!
7 sets of PJs every day plus all the other washing! Your electricity bills must be through the roof!

ChristinaYang10 · 09/04/2021 10:23

No way. Who can be arsed with all that washing!
I used to have to change DD’s pjs every night because she was a very dribbly baby but now she isn’t she gets new ones weekly. But she doesn’t eat breakfast in them.

PivotPivotPivottt · 09/04/2021 10:23

envious of people who do extra work and therefore look like they have their shit together!

I absolutely don't have my shit together! I have two full baskets of clean laundry sitting waiting to be put away that have sat for much longer than I care to admit. The clean matching pyjamas that are put on each night are pulled from from of these baskets. We just seem to have loads and loads of pyjamas Confused so wearing a clean pair every night is no hassle. I don't go out of my wash to wash them every day. If my washing machine was to break we would probably run out of clothes before we ran out of pyjamas Grin

PivotPivotPivottt · 09/04/2021 10:24

Dont go out of my way

littletommy2021 · 09/04/2021 10:25

my kid does have pjs......he just wears older joggers and long sleeve tops.......so they never match as there is nothing to match. but i do change them daily.

hated pjs are as a kid and dont wear them now so wont make DC wear them either

littletommy2021 · 09/04/2021 10:25

doesnt have

AliasGrape · 09/04/2021 10:26

@MynameisJune

Definitely with Meowchicken on this one I’m afraid. As a species we need to start doing better on stuff like this. There is no need to bathe every night or wash barely worn clothes every day either. Bring on the apocalypse hey Op.
Agree with this.

The sheer pride a lot of mumsnetters seem to take in the ridiculous amount of unnecessary washing and use of cleaning products is really something. I know the thread is supposed to be lighthearted but it's not a lighthearted, harmless quirk to waste water, energy and resources in this way.

I like clean pjs and bedding as much as the next person, I am very very far from perfect when it comes to environmental issues, but I do think its important to try and do better. If you start a thread about how your 7 kids have to have clean pyjamas every night and therefore you do loads of unnecessary washing, you must surely expect that someone would point out the environmental implications - otherwise what were you expecting people to discuss?

sanfranfibber · 09/04/2021 10:27

You absolutely do not wash everything by hand. Come on OP, try harder.

3totheright4totheleft · 09/04/2021 10:27

This must be some kind of joke, surely. Change every few days here. DD only has one decent pair anyway (12 so particular), I'll be straight down the shops next weekend when they reopen to try and find another pair she'll tolerate.

CuntyMcBollocks · 09/04/2021 10:28

My 6yo DD will wear hers twice as she has a bath each evening as part of her bedtime routine, so I don't really understand how that is supposedly so disgusting. If she gets food on them then she will have a fresh pair.

stayathomer · 09/04/2021 10:30

I don't wear the same pair of knickers for more than a day so don't get why I'd wear the same pair of PJ bottoms
I always thought of it like underwear hug that area but pjs are loose

ChristinaYang10 · 09/04/2021 10:32

I know the thread is supposed to be lighthearted but it's not a lighthearted, harmless quirk to waste water, energy and resources in this way.

@AliasGrape 👏🏻👏🏻

rabbitheadlights · 09/04/2021 10:32

@sanfranfibber I said up thread that I don't wash everything by hand of course, but I could have done, other posters weren't to know that before they piled in with the wasting resources etc ..

OP posts:
hellywelly3 · 09/04/2021 10:33

When they wore nappies it was clean ones every night but now they’re older then can wear longer as long as they don’t smell and are visibly clean. Not very environmentally friendly to do that amount of washing.

EvilOnion · 09/04/2021 10:38

@rabbitheadlights hand washing is less of a waste but it still has an impact on the environment so it makes sense not to over do it - unless of course you only use plain rain water collected from outside to do so.

I mean apologies if you do but obviously I don't have the full facts given that this was supposed to be a "light-hearted" snapshot of your life...

Kottbullar · 09/04/2021 10:39

They are worn for about half the day. Ill often shower and put on PJs after dinner if I'm home and they are worn until the following morning.

I wear mine for about an hour in the evenings while I faff around washing my face etc and long enough on weekends and school holidays to make a cup of tea and unload the dishwasher.
My younger children wear them to go to sleep in but generally by the time I go to bed they'll be off.

stayathomer · 09/04/2021 10:43

Are modern day washing machines not more economic on water than handwashing like dishwashers are?

Potpourriandpennysweets · 09/04/2021 10:48

@stayathomer

Yes absolutely they are, especially if you wash reasonable sized loads at lower temperatures. There is less water usage, and yes fuel usage in heating the water. A/A+ etc. machines will all be far more economic to run than old style water heaters, too, so unless your boiler/water heater are fairly new it's going to be more economical on all fronts to use the machine, and much better for the planet. You also can get away with less products in a machine, so there is less soap scum heading down the drains too.

PatriachyChickenChampion2020 · 09/04/2021 10:50

Christ the electric bill! Do you have a tumble dryer - how do you dry that many PJs daily? (Genuinely curious)

For those of us you who obsess over like matching PJs, just buy a few of the same set. So all tops and bottoms are the same and always match.

Gemma2019 · 09/04/2021 10:51

Sounds a little bit slovenly to me - I send my kids to bed in clean matching pyjamas each night, then I wake them all at midnight to change them into fresh pyjamas - doesn't everyone do the same?
